• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Towing tongue weight only 350 pounds?

It's a typo. The latest edition of the owner's manual has been revised to state 500 lbs tongue weight. Something must have been lost in translation from Korean to English, or in conversion from metric to imperial measurements, or they failed to factor in the self-leveling suspension.
Can you post a screenshot of that page in the manual?

Self leveling suspension is purely a ride comfort feature. Ride height is not going to improve towing in fact it requires more consideration to be used properly with a weight distribution hitch over a vehicle without self leveling suspension. The mistake is calling it a tow package when combined with the tow option. It makes people think they are paying for some additional capacity.

ditto on this, a lot of people have the illusion that an airbag or self-leveling system will act as the “weight distribution”, when in reality the towing vehicle can still be severely compromised in terms of steering control and safety. I will say it will help when you have all seven passengers loaded in your car, but shouldn’t be a replacement for a good weight distribution setup when towing.

Deleted post. I saw picture above. Thanks for the update.

This was obvious all along...not sure why people were so worried about tongue weight lol. But whatever makes you sleep better at night. I'd be more worried about the brakes and tranny.

You do get a transmission cooler with self leveling suspension.

TBH I wouldn't worry that much about the hitch / tongue weight. I'm not sure why people on the board are so obsessed by that. It is a class III hitch, which are all rated to at least 600 lbs. I have never seen one break, ever. The 7-pin trailer brake is the main issue to towing, as are brakes and tranny cooling. Hitch is pretty much the last thing I'd worry about. And there is no way the suspension or frame cannot handle the weight.

Kia motors incorrectly had tongue weight in manual at 350 lbs. The correct tongue weight capacity is 500 lbs. maximum trailer weight w/o brakes system is 1650 lbs. with brakes system 5000lbs. See attached

Really? I could not find any evidence that the transmission cooler is any different between any of the trims. They are all rated for 5,000 lbs regardless of the suspension.

That’s what I read as well. If you get a 7-pin installed to brake the trailer then all trims can do 5,000 lbs. No mention of a different transmission cooling system if you have self leveling suspension.

According to Car and Driver it’s standard on all trims of the Palisade and supposedly it shares the same Powertrain which would give both equal torque. And according to that article all you need to do it add a tow hitch.

“All Palisade come standard with a robust transmission cooler, trailer pre-wiring and sway control, and can tow up to 5000 pounds when equipped with the dealer-installed trailer hitch.”

Just a thought for people towing a boat. I have the standard 4-pin on my Telluride with a 21’ 4100lb boat trailer with “surge drum brakes” built into the trailer. So it looks like with my braking system I apparently qualify for the 5000lb rating. Very happy! Eventually I will install a 7 pin.

I opened a support case with Kia and received a response describing the error in the manual on 10/21.

kia dealer gave me copy! I believe they just received it on 10/30... not sure if it applies to Canada but I’m guessing it does.

I have it on excellent authority that the 350# tongue weight is an error and it should be 500# for the AWD. Kia is aware of the error, and will be issuing a correction in the very near future.

I called KIA a while back and was told the same thing... I had, PREVIOUSLY Called KIA in Washington DC as well as wrote to their HQ in Irvine, CA. Since then, on the phone, I have been assured the 351# tongue weight IS a mistake... 500# sticker to cover the number in our manuals is coming... LOL I also told them that since so many of us wanted TOWING and they put the LAME 4 pin connector on the vehicle...I thought those who ordered it should have a 7 pin (brake connector) installed at NO ADDITIONAL COST!!! Met with silence LOL but nothing ventured, nothing gained... I was also told that the Dealers should be able to install the 7 pin system to alleviate any issues with Warranties...although aftermarket installations should have their own warranties should any other failure be attributed to them and not KIA. I would NOT have bitched but...in my state you need to have a Brake Connector if you tow more than 1650#. Just saying to them...give us something we can actually use than to have a place to intall a Bicycle or Little Rascal to our rears. ;)

@Lou Panozzo - thanks for the pic of the bulletin... hope it's OK with you - copied it and posting it in the Service Bulletin forum...
