Amplifier install EX

I replaced the door speakers in my EX already and plan to install an amplifier under the front seat. I am looking at where I will get high level inputs for my line out converter and cant decide if I should track down the stock amp or just splice into the speaker wires. If you have done this in your car where did you decide to splice? And if anyone has a sub to the tech info site does it have detailed wiring information like pin outs and what wires are what in the harness?

I subscribed to kia tech info the 72 hours the other day and found that my EX has no external amplifier. So I just need to tap into the line from behind the head unit. I am sure metra or PAC will have a T harness sometime but I might splice wires instead of waiting. I could cut into the wires in the middle of the harness but I am hesitant to.

I have one of the two amps installed and all the door speakers upgraded. The amp is not yet mounted to the floor and the leads are all still just twisted together while I test out polarity/phase. I will end up with an 8 in the back sooner or later. At first I upgraded the door speakers only and that was a small improvement and mostly on the higher end. The amplifier however make a huge difference and I would recommend that over any speaker upgrades for your first step or do the amplifier and speakers at the same time.

Dude all we are waiting for pictures Witch wires you use? where you will locate the amps you use 2 amps one for speakers and one for a sub??

OK here is the basic layout. I used a kicker key 180.4 amp. Its under the passenger seat and i have a rockford fosgate amp for the sub that will go under the drivers seat. All the door speakers have been replaced.

Here is the wiring diagram for the head unit. Notice the wires reverse color on all the doors except one.


Here is how the amp ended up for now. Also where I poked through the firewall to run the power wire.

The location of the floor harness where I got my high level input. Note the wire color change from one harness to another. This is at the passenger side kick panel. The speaker leads are the top 4 on the white clip. The driver side inputs are at the driver side kick panel.

Last night I finally cleaned up the amp install and secured it to the floor using a sheet of abs on top and below the carpet. The sheets are screwed together so the amp won't slide around or anything.

Brilliant idea for securing the amp. And definitely outside of my comfort zone and wheelhouse to attempt myself, especially after looking at the pics!

The sub amp is finished and I have my sub temporarily installed in a borrowed box that a friend had laying around his garage. I mounted the bass knob with a rubber band and I like the position its in but i need to find a way to secure it. Perhaps with some glue. The system sounds much much better than stock now. When I get the sub box finished i will post some pics. With luck it will be slim and tucked into the side of the rear somewhat like the stock sub so that I still have full cargo space. Unfortunately it will require me to cover where the jack and tools are. Those I will have to store someplace else or just leave them at home. I made my power wire a little too long so its visible when the door is open but i haven't really noticed it in my week or so of driving. My motivation for changing it has been low.

A little hot glue should work on the bass knob. Again really excellent job with the wiring.
