Bad Dealer Dealings - List Your Bad Dealer Experience

Southwest KIA cracks me up.
Me: WTB Telluride SXP
Salesman: Sure! It comes with $10k market adjustment.
Me: Not paying for that and want $1500 off MSRP.
Salesman: We have 30 customers sold at MSRP. We won motor trend. We will buy every prestige if we can get them for $1500 off MSRP!!!
Me: WTF?!?!? You are getting them at invoice!!!

Well, the've come down a bit. They did have +$12k market adjustment... so +10 is an improvement! I don't know what they actually will sell them for, but I know it's not less than +5k. I talked to them back in April, and I got them down to +2500... but I still said no walked. I know my dealer sold several at +$6k for SX-Ps (not mine, I placed my order early before they started adding massive markups).

I think that Salesman means if they could buy them for $1500 under MSRP even from other dealers they'd do it all day long because they are selling them with such substantial markups. Their allocations may be at invoice, but I know they initially were trying to buy them from other dealers through trades, etc. They've built quite an inventory listing in Texas on the cars.com sites, etc.

I got a email from someone wanting a Palisade. A dealer online had a Limited marked down like $4500. I was asked to match, and said no. I sent a lead in on the same vehicle. Someone text me... Told them I'm paying cash. Also asked if the discounted price was good to go? Sir... You'll need to come in to see if you qualify for any discounts. I said I'm paying cash, what discounts are available and I'm 4 states away! I'm sending my driver to pick it up! Still said I needed to come in. Nonsense! Total Scam. Cheese for a Rat and then it's the trap. Kapoweeee!

Yeah, no way you could ever match to what another dealer has posted online... a prospective buyer would have to get a quote in writing that is true and valid. It does amaze me how some dealerships show insane discounts on their own website... but then simply claim ignorance when you show up.

If you tell the stealership that you are driving more than an hr to go see a car that they want you to come see w/o ever agreeing to a sale price with you first... you are already at a disadvantage in their eyes. You are game, and they WILL game you.

It's always good to get a copy or look at window sticker. In Indiana we can be fined if we do not show with addendum in the window.

Whoa. Jason. Your pure sales spirit is not supposed to know of such things... how the heck would you be familiar with addendums in the window??? say it ain't so.... :)

Mine flipped when I drove a long ways, then left. They called in a panic the next morning.

I'm finally close to buying - albeit from a bad dealer but they have the car I want. I'm proud to say that I'm shooting for $1 over MSRP but that's only to keep aforementioned options open... almost there... staying on target....

Last thing you want is to get fined. It happens. Rare... But it happens

Or fined and sued.... plus an injunction. An honest mistake is one thing. Downright deception is another. Glad you're back and posting btw, good too see ya :)

Try Moritz in Alliance or Hurst....not perfect but selling at MRSP

Good for you! We as consumers have the ultimate power (our wallets) if we have a little patience. As nice as the current Telluride and Palisade are there is no reason to pay an exorbitant amount over MSRP. NONE! However, to each his own. As they say sometimes we have more money than brains.

Well this is interesting. Got a call from Ron Bouchard Kia in Lancaster, MA telling me they ordered the car I wanted. I was like "huh?" I checked all my emails. No correspondence with them. I might have called asking if they mark their cars up and if what I wanted might be coming in. But ordering a car without any contact other than an inquiry? Are they trying to guilt me into going in and giving them my info and a deposit? They gave me a price over the phone for the SX AWD with Prestige pkg and towing ($47305; doc fees $499) and said they don't mark them up over MSRP AND would give me all the currently available incentives. I thought I read that the incentives couldn't be applied until your car is in - and you can only get the incentives at the time the car is in and you take delivery. Jason Fox, can you tell me if current incentives can be applied to a vehicle that won't be in until February? I am already put off by their tactics.

No incentives are only available of when the car gets to the dealership and delivered.

You mean they are being dishonest? Shocking!! Actually, I think they deliberately have someone make the calls who doesn't know better - probably tell her to just agree with anything the potential customer wants. When she is done urging the people to come in and the salespeople are confronted about lying all they have to do is say the person who called didn't know. Maybe she didn't know about the markup, either. On another note, I still haven't got the ID from my dealer despite requesting it twice. Are dealers limited as to how many they can order each month and once their quota for the month is filled and have to wait until the portal opens the following month to put in the next orders? Thank you for answering my questions!

You can order as many as you want per month. We have had zero issues placing orders.

The dealer can offer to give you the incentives that are available now. The only thing is, if those incentives are gone when the car gets delivered, then the rebates are on them to cover and not Kia.
