• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Kia Telluride US production stats. by trim and colors

Thanks! I'm in the US so it works for me. I looked for possible vin api's to use but nothing came back with any kind of rate I could use without paying an arm and a leg. I figured I'd just write it in python although most of my career has been in C#.

In my application, when generating all combinations of VINs for the Telluride, I don't use the NHTSA API. Instead I use the information provided from the following document:

https://vpic.nhtsa.dot.gov/mid/home/displayfile/7f5e483c-54f6-4733-8b08-5c154c3f15e9

Of course you need to write some code to calculate the VIN check digit. Here is the logic on how to calculate he check-digit: Vehicle identification number - Wikipedia

MichelW thanks for the links. That'll help a lot. If I get something put together I'll post the github repo and/or heroku site for others to play with.

Good catch. There was some empty data retrieved for some of the VINs during the end of December 2019. For an unknown reason, one day I get empty data for some of the VINs and then the next couple of days I got back some of the data (I think that this problem was on the Kia web site).

I have now fixed this in my Google Sheet.

The last VIN retrieved as of January 3, 2020 is now 5XYP5DHC9LG071072.

Michelw,

Thank you for getting all of this information. How often do you post updates to your sheet?

Thank you for providing the VIN spreadsheet for us. If I have an order number, is there any way to find out if it is tied to a VIN number? My IL dealer has been no help at all. It is ordered under Costco pricing. We have one ordered in WI and have a build and delivery date since Dec 26th. The one in IL was ordered 9 days after the WI one and we have no info. I see on the sheet that they have one with my specs coming. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Just curious, what IL dealer?

No, your dealer will have to confirm. But, if it's a sold order, then they are required to sell it to the person who ordered it. If you see a vehicle matching your order headed to your dealership, ask the manager if that VIN is yours. If not, then you'll still be waiting.

This would be the 2nd one. I’m pretty sure mine came on Oct and they sold it as thet could get above MSRP instead of selling to us at Costco pricing. The only correspondence I’ve gotten from them without me asking - is the price increase information.

MichelW, two more questions about scraping the vin data... how do you get the VIN_CREATION_DATE (is it just the date you scraped it?), and are the SOLD_TO and SHIP_TO ever different?

Yes the VIN_CREATION_DATE is simply the date I scrape the data (I normally scrape the data daily at around noon Eastern time). So this VIN_CREATION_DATE is pretty much accurate at +/- 1 day.

Question: Why are you asking me all of these questions about data scraping ? Are you planning to do your data scraping ? Would it be usefull to anyone if I made part of my SQLite database available (I would keep the latest data for myself and keep making the latest data available in my Google Sheet. I would then make my database available to anyone without the latest 3 months data for example).

As far as a difference between the SOLD_TO and SHIP_TO, I will do a quick query tomorrow and tell you if there is a lot of cases.

Yes, I'm putting together a site that's basically your spreadsheet in a few webpages. Not sure what all I'll add, like filtering by proximity based on zip. Part of the reason is just a side project to have fun with, and part is to possibly help me and others with finding a car. When I get something usable I'll push it up.

I've got the scraping logic done so now I'm just working on displaying and filtering it.

It is done by day. But, it is an SX only color... that's why it looks it is interspersed.
I understand that it is an SX only color, hence the charge for the paint. I guess what I am really wondering is why aren't 8 - 10 being produced at a time like the other colors? You don't see a big production batch of them run on the same day as they seem to do with White and Black.

You do. Just filter by color and see VIN date. Just did a batch in January.

Forgot to add that I'd love to use the database you already have to fill in the history of vins. Thanks!

Have written a small computer application that generates valid Telluride VINs and then calls the Kia "windowsticker" URL to retrieve a windows sticker PDF file. From this PDF file I am able to retrieve all of the trim/color information for the Telluride including dealer address, exterior color, interior color, prestige package and towing package.

All of this data is then written to a small SQLite database in which I can query all of the information that I need.

As of 2019/06/17, here is the complete rundown of the trim/color combinations for the Telluride:

The most produced color: Ebony Black (4724)
The most produced trim: S FWD (5354)
FWD vs AWD: 49.5% vs 50.5%

I tried as well but I think I'm either too new or have too few of posts. You can email me at my username at gmail.com

Thanks for providing the spreadsheet!
I'm waiting on notification of a VIN for my white pearl/dune SXP that was ordered back in September. Hopefully not too much longer!

I might have missed this in a previous post, but what is with the long list of vin created Tellurides on the spreadsheet without and other information?

Are those ones that you weren't able to find all the information on at the time? Or is it literally just bulk produced vehicles not assigned to dealers?

International VINs - Canada and Export (UAE) market. No info, as Kia URL returns US window stickers.
