Remote start

Does anyone know if you can install a remote start without voiding the warranty. I asked at Kia and they at this point told me they have none that they can install. They also said it could void the warranty.

See this post and ucinn's comment above. The only issue is that current kits need to splice into existing wiring. So, if failure of a part is caused by a botched installation or the remote start kit, then manufacturer could deny your warranty claim - but only on affected parts - not for example the drivetrain.

Trailer Wiring

The factory hitch and wiring comes with a 4 connector wiring. Trailers now have 5 connectors with the 5th wire allowing the trailer to be backed up. The fifth wire overrides the solenoid in the trailer hitch. I had to stick a screwdriver in the hitch to override it and get back in the stall...

And then the question becomes if Kia argues against you would you be willing to pay for a lawyer to fight back. I hate doing anything permanent to factory wiring.

App costs money - if it's more than $5/mo, it's really not worth it, and a fob remote start should be STANDARD for this reason, and as a fall-back option. The app doesn't respond immediately. If I'm about to walk out the door of my home in 30 seconds, the app likely won't respond before I get to the car, whereas the fob would be instantaneous. Also, in areas where you or the car don't get cell service, it is valuable. There is no reason Kia should have excluded remote start from the fob on a $47K vehicle... huge oversight.

I agree with 392DCGC 100%. My phone isn't grown fast to my hand as it is with many these days. When I'm letting the dog out before I go to work, I don't have two hands to mess with my phone and an app to start my car. I've had two other vehicles prior to the Telluride that had remote start, and they were on the fob. Very convenient. Pull keys out, start the car. Boom. Done. No logging in, no waiting for it to log in to the app, no waiting for it to decide what it's going to do (and IF it's going to do it), I was not made aware of the fact that it was strictly a phone app remote start until after we had purchased and I asked what sequence I needed to use on the fob to get it to start. The salesman, a young guy with his phone in bluetooth mode in his ears, says very energetically, it's not on your fob. It's on a cool app. To which I replied, "your f-----g kidding me, right?" For $47K, my key fob should start my car AND make coffee! HUGE OVERSIGHT! (Plus, I just found out here that I'm going to have to start paying for the remote start/app at some point. REALLY? )

You should return/sell it and get another car that has the options you need. And be sure to do some research before you drop $47K on a car that doesn't make coffee.

I understand what ya mean..& I don’t know why it is that way. But if you get the free UVO app & type in your VIN# to link your car, there is a nice little button there on your phone under the climate control display that says “start”...and it works! Even from across the entire country

Only if you continue to pay $30 a month for the app. I hate the app. The delay is terrible!

My uconnect app for my jeep which came free the first year as well was also laggy.

Why can't the app be like the one tesla has? That app is not laggy at all.

All of the traditional car manufacturers are playing catch up to Tesla in the software space and it takes a lot of time, talent, and big changes to company's culture to mature that as a core competency.

IMHO, the UVO app, is fine as long as the car is sitting somewhere that has good cellular data service (on whatever service provider they use), and on your phone. But it is SLOW, even when both have a good connection.

Where I live however, most of the time, this is not the case. I had the idatastart installed, but have had issues ever since, and finally had to have the unit removed, and the wire harness (es) replaced. Problems included: windshield wiper switch stopped working correctly, fog light switch quit working, etc.

Pretty pricy $22.50 per month for a slow motion remote start and lock/unlock. I did notice as some posted, even if the car is locked, you need to lock it before the remote start. I would prefer a key fob, faster and cheaper. Also when setting up, get the app first, I tried following the instructions an the thing hung on the mirror and after trying 3 times, I called and they said it does not work, use the app.

Not really. I've started mine from the app and portal without locking it first. Note that I do know the status (locked) of the car prior to starting.

I have found even if it shows locked, it's 50/50 on wether it will work for me. If I lock them first through the app, it has worked every time, although it's always slow. So, I just lock them first (made it part of the routine) and it works so I don't have to worry about if it will start or not.

No, we had it installed at one of the after market shops the dealer had mentioned.

The dealer has been very good about the repairs, but now the remote start unit sits on my dining room table.

I’ve not read any reviews about this (or any) aftermarket remote start units for the Telluride, and it’s my suspicion that the guys installing hooked it up wrong

I just pick up the Telluride and downloaded the app and the remote starter is there. Thank you for your answer. The dealership still says it does not come with one.

It will only work for 1 year then you have to subscribe to a yearly
Subscription to keep it. Going through that now because
I bought mine in March 2019.
