• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Hi! So I just got my SXP. Love it! I wanted to ditch the rear frame that came from the dealer and put on a much nicer one. Possibly even the Telluride one that they sell on the website. (below)

Question is, there are just two screw holes in the trunk area with no backing.. and I’m concerned that anything I buy might scratch the paint from either a new frame *or* even the license plate itself?

Should there be something behind the plate to make sure the paint is protected? Or is this not a concern? The front plate area of the vehicle doesn’t look like it will have an issue.

Any thoughts on this? and does anybody have the above frame and do they like it?

Thank you!

I always change mine. Seems fine.

I used some thick double sided tape on the back bottom.

Here's an alternative that I'm considering... Silicone License Plate frames

This. I just ordered the silicone frames. I also ordered an anti-theft screw kit and it’s coming with adhesive rubber “plate backers”, which of course won’t be necessary with the silicone frames.

You can also buy adhesive rubber “feet” packs in the hardware section at Walmart for cheap and put some of those on the back of the plate to keep it from rubbing.

Can you give a link to the screw kit

Thanks

Found the timing of this post impeccable.

Put my plates on last night and like others was surprised by the lack of any mounting device on the back of the car. I did this approach - used felt pads I had for furniture. Four or 5 with adhesive to the paint (fear putting it on the plate would just catch dirt and make things worse by making a sandpaper pad to destroy paint.) I did notice my car had two large foam pads in the middle - not clear if dealer added or from Kia.

My biggest issue from before my modifications was the top of the plate was up against the paint (nowhere else was). If the screws loosed up a bit, going through a car wash would be mega destructive...
