I apologize for being naive, just wanted get some suggestions from experts...
the owner said for 10 yr warranty he paid 2k extra and tranfer it to me for additional price...
So is he lying ?
Here's what you need to know about Kia warranty in item (1) below.
(1) Purchase of a used vehicle that is not certified by a dealer (i.e. from a private party or non-Kia dealer) will mean a 5 year limited powertrain warranty from factory versus 10 year for original owner. (Read details from Kia if need more detail or you want to know specifics.)
(2) To evaluate the deal, I would get the
VIN, use the
VIN lookup URL to get MSRP and window sticker.
(3) Third party extended warranties can usually be sold back to warranty company by purchaser and refunded for unused portion, so it wouldn't be unreasonable to ask for compensation for that option. If you didn't want that warranty, he could sell it back to recoup some of his cost for unused months. Depends on terms and company.
(4) I would think that 10-15% off MSRP would be reasonable for the used vehicle with low mileage to compensate for the reduced factory warranty and the mileage - that would translate into $4-6k off a $40k MSRP putting the vehicle in the $36k range at high end. Selling to you for $38k with extended warranty included may be okay. There is certainly room to negotiate in this market.
(5) What I meant by lack of info, is you didn't share MSRP, nor vehicle specs with forum (AWD/FWD, tow, options, etc) - just said EX Premium. So, it's difficult to evaluate if $38k is a good deal.
(6) I saw a listing on here from a dealer asking $1500 below MSRP for SX-P demo vehicles with 4k miles (less KMF finance incentive too, potentially $2500 off total). Just a reference point. And those are in very high demand...
(7) Only you can decide what deal you'll be happy with! But, you're getting good advice from other posters also.
