Order to delivery time

While I won't defend their lack of communication - I will say that the dealers are waiting on the specifics of the 2021's just like us. Until they know differently - they were placing orders for 2020's. Last month they found out the order books closed for the 2020 model year - but don't have the information on the 2021's yet. Keep in mind - if your dealership keeps a list of orders they should be able to move you to the new model year without you losing your place in line. So your wait time is really only impacted by the crazy demand for the Telluride SXP and COVID-19. Neither of those things could KIA control or expect.

If KFOS opens back up this month - your dealership will know on the 13th. Give them a call and if they honor your place in line (which they should) then you have lost nothing. By the way - I would ask how many people in front of you for your model and trim and then ask how many allocations they are getting each month and how many they get this month. That will help you know how much longer the wait is.
I have had a deposit on the car since the end of February, before the cutoff date for taking additional orders for the 2020 model. It was not an allocated car at that time but this is a smaller dealership and I had a good experience with them. I had a call about a week later from another dealer in the area that I had visited in the process. He wanted to know if I would like to get on his allocated list before he placed his next orders but he also had a markup of $1500 over MSRP . I chose to not go that route. I also did not like the tactics of trying to take an order from one of the other dealers because he knew I had already placed my order elsewhere. I spoke to a sales manager subsequent to being notified of the cancellation and he told me that as of a week ago he had checked on my order which was one of 4 that were open and was assured they were still good. Then this cancellation sometime yesterday morning. I had a long calm discussion but I certainly let him know how upset I was at the way this was handled. He also seemed upset at the way KIA handled this with little communication and leaving him in a bad situation with customers. I have not asked for my refund at this time and he has assured me he will not have me go back to the dealer to process another order for the 2021 model. This dealership may not be the largest in the area but it has had some longevity with the same owner. Until I hear more I will see what the response is and possibly start looking again at other makes and models. Something a lot better will have to be out there for me to change my mind on make or model. I am still in no hurry and have reliable cars to drive. I had 3 or 4 possible options when I went with the Telluride; Subaru Outback, Ford Excursion, Lincoln Navigator. The Excursion and Navigator larger and a lot more money obviously.

Seems my wait time is extremely longer than others. We placed our order 10/5/19 and have yet to receive an ETA. We were given a 6-8 week turnaround time and we're now at 7 months and have no idea when to expect the Telluride. In my monthly email to our sales rep, I get the same response of "nothing yet". We were going to cancel our order and look into a different vehicle but with the shelters in place in CA, we decided to wait it out. We're hopeful for a July/August delivery but I don't want to get my hopes up.

I've reached out to several dealerships in the area and all have quoted me $6,500 over MSRP for the same model/package/color (SX w/Prestige package). I reached out to Kia customer service and was told they could help track my order but that never happened. I'm not sure if anyone else has experienced a wait time this long but it is extremely frustrating.

Someone is not telling you the straight story!!!

Exactly! I feel like I'm chasing my own tail at this point and being strung along.

I am now wondering how many others have been cancelled like mine and not told. At least now I know from my dealer that my order for 2020 has been cancelled and I am not waiting for several months for a Telluride that is not coming.

As mentioned in a prior post, I called KIA HQ in Georgia yesterday . I am supposed to get a call back from them in a few days. I am gonna give it to them big time for the way this whole purchase has been handled. I realize that this vehicle is a hot commodity but they are not giving them away. I am still spending my hard earned money on it. I expect to be treated with some decency here! Hehe

So that means 2021 information is out there. We need all the information ASAP. I wonder if the black out package will be available on other colors. I wonder how it will look on Gravity Gray.

Not necessarily. If you read the print, it says "MY 2021 Black Edition Concept" so this is no different information than the picture that came out a few months ago after Kia conference. All we know is it is in the works. Info will be out soon I'm sure.

Please understand that you were on a wait list for 2.5 months and Kia told dealers that 2020 orders had to be closed because they needed to move onto 2021 MY. You didn't have an order anyway - a vehicle isn't technically ordered until it is placed into KFOS - a dealership may take your deposit and put you in their internal wait-list (using kdealer system) but that doesn't mean it's been ordered from the factory. Yes, dealerships could explain this better because the consumer thinks he / she has an order. A small dealership doesn't get many allocations - especially SX-P.

It sounds like the dealership is doing the right thing - keeping you in their queue, and when 2021 ordering opens up in KFOS, they will put in your order when they have the allocation. See the thread "Latest Info on Ordering through KFOS" for some more details. Once an order is placed into KFOS, it's planned for production and delivery is usually within about 60 days - depending on location.

I'm sure thousands of 2020 orders were cancelled, but then the dealer has to slot for 2021 MY.

Most of us waited 4-7 months for a Telluride (and that was 2019), so 3 so far is no big deal.

Well said. I am at month 4 and between COVID-19 and the general demand - I am probably going to be in the seven month range. People freaking out about the 2020 to 2021 change over is ridiculous. Every time I think about having to wait until probably August - I think about those folks that waited for nearly a year from their vehicle. If someone walks at the 3 month mark - they are doing two things....giving up when they are probably half way there and secondarily they are helping out someone else by dropping out of the queue.

I tend to agree with you guys, I know I've been freaking out waiting the short period I have, but try and remember how long some people have waited for theirs already. The only thing I can kind of see with some others have said about their '20 model being cancelled and potentially having to get a '21 instead, would be any potential price increase. I know there is NO info about that right now, but I would assume there is going to be some form of price increase. If I had gone into this with a specific number given to me before they "placed my order", and it ended up being a "x" amount more, at no fault of my own, I would probably be upset.

I would understand if a person had a committed order for a 2020 model and an associated VIN# that got cancelled. But for folks that had a deposit and no VIN# - they are litterally just holding a place in line to place an order. The model year change is a risk we all took ordering in early 2020.

Fair enough I suppose. This is honestly the first time I've ever gotten a car around a model change, so this is all new to me I guess. I still feel like I would be upset with the price increase though, I'm sure there are dealers who aren't really explaining that they are being put on an internal wait list and all, but I believe all that was already discussed. I absolutely cannot wait to get my hands on my EX Telly, but I believe the next time I go car shopping, I'll hold off on a vehicle such as this where demand is well above supply, this all is craziness!

I'm sure KIA would love to sell 250k units of the Telluride right now like other manufacturers but its just not in the cards for them at this time. Winners like this one (2020 SUV of the year) will certainly change their trajectory going forward tho so expect revised processes and for their sake hopefully a better buying experience at the dealer level. This vehicle just out performed their capacity this year unfortunately. Good problem for them to have

There is no drama here. I was just relating my info. I have said in more than one thread that I have never been in a hurry and I have never continuously called the dealer to check on my status. I was just relaying information to this forum and curious about what others might have been told. I was willing to wait the 6 to 8 months or whatever was necessary to get the car I ordered. If I was that anxious I would have immediately asked for a refund and looked for something else. Don't throw accusations of drama when it is not!

Okay, thanks. I suppose I misread your post with the bold cancellations as you being angry. I will revise my comment. Thanks, yes, we know the wait can be frustrating. Just be aware that the small dealership may have a hard time getting your order, but sounds like you're okay with that.

Got an ETA update from my dealer. Placed an order for an SX-Black Cooper in early February and now my current ETA is 7/13.

Wow...looking more and more like those of us slated to get a 2021 allocation this week will be looking at August deliveries.

Probably a dumb question here, but on the Telluride Lookup Tracker, does anyone know why the VIN numbers will jump by like 10 numbers or so occasionally? Like right now on my tracker, its showing the 2nd to latest created VIN is 547, and then the next is 571. I know it probably means absolutely nothing, but just curious.

The plant also makes units for the middle east and Canada. The tracker is only showing units sold in the USA.
