• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Please don't take this as an odd question - I have a young kid, and plan on more...no way that I can get the real leather or Nappa leather...

if I wait and order a 2021 SX-P, will Kia let me get Leatherette instead of the Nappa?

No. Seating surfaces and substitutions for captains and bench in the 2nd row are trim specific. Can't be changed between the two. I have always had leather with kids and it has never been a problem.

I meant all of the seats not just the 2nd and 3rd row. Question was far fetched but curious if its possible in KFOS.

I understood...I mentioned the captains chairs for bench because that has been asked by others on this site before and it can't be done. Just get seat covers for your kids seats. They won't be little for long. Again - I have had leather in all my family cars with kids of all ages - never had a problem. The only thing we ever did was put a mat under car seats to keep the car seat from damaging the leather...but, food, dirt, etc. always cleaned off. But we keep our cars clean.

I speak for many parents when I tell you this: leather seats are WAY easier to care for with children.

I have twins and we've gone through plenty of cars with them and leather seats are always easier to clean and hold up way better than anything other than probably that old vinyl stuff they used a million years ago. I remember one time when my husband took the car seats out of our old Volvo and it looked like chocolate (?) had somehow gotten under one of the seats, then melted, then hardened. He was able to scrape it out and then just conditioned it. You'd never have known after he was done with it. I doubt leatherette or cloth would have come out so well.

Seriously. Leather is a better deal with kids.

Agree on all counts except the "old vinyl" stuff used a million years ago. They still use it. Leatherette is just the fancy new name for vinyl. Brother-in-law had a VW with "leatherette" and while durable - it was horrible in the summer. Gets so much hotter than real leather. Wouldn't want that in my car - ever.

Oh, man. I had many a summer sticking to the vinyl in my old Mustang and in my old Toyota p/u. Just yuck. I know that leatherette is still plasticy but didn't realize it was the same vinyl they used in those old cars. In that case, get that stuff. It's indestructible. It's also super yucky and uncomfortable. But it will last through the apocalypse.

And @Rpdc, 100% on light colored interior. We always get black leather interiors now that we have kids.

It is better textured to look more like leather...but still a vinyl product that gets hotter than hell in the summer. And doesn't breath at all. I am always surprised when I see base BMW, Cadillac and other cars with leatherette interiors. I would rather have cloth over leatherette. Leatherette is a cheap way to look like you have a leather interior - but cut costs on the car.

Get dune or black leather, do not under any circumstances get the grey. My 3 kids could destroy just about anything, but all is good. Get some good leather cleaner and some conditioner (I use the Adams cleaner, and their matte conditioner).

Does the Adams products leave a residue? I believe they're one of the better products out there right now, I've just never used them yet.

No. They are excellent products. Only products I use.

For those who have kids, doesn’t getting grey interior just mean you’re acknowledging it needs to be cleaned more often? Kids won’t “destroy” grey leather any more than they will black leather, it’s just hiding less.
I know I’ll regret getting the black leather, as it darkens the interior way too much for my tastes. Planning on keeping the Telly for many years too, so I want to like the car I drive each time I hop in.

Not sure if you have ordered yet, but the Nappa black interior on the SX is much lighter than the black interior of an EX. If you get a chance to check it out at a dealer, do it.

This is interesting. Would be interested in any side by side comparison pictures if anyone has some to share. This is the first I have heard it. All the pictures of the black nappa leather I have seen just looks black. Never thought it was lighter in any way. And of course I haven't seen it in person either.

I haven’t seen it in person either. But I did sit in the Palisade Nappa black interior for about 30 mins, and loved the color scheme. It was really more dark gray than black.

Get the grey. Looks premium. If you really cared about cleanliness, you would be cleaning with black leather either way.

The grey (half) dash looks so cheap. I wish the dash was black with grey seats. I would've gotten the grey seats.

I think it would help if the grey dash were a few shades darker.

I test drove the EX with the gray interior. It didn’t look cheap to me.
