• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Anyone know what this means? It can’t be how many miles til empty because it was down to 38 mi and I filled up and it only took 15 gal. If the car hold 19 gal. Then I should of had more then 38 miles left to empty. Plus, the low fuel light never came on.

I think it's correct, It's calculated based on last mileage (fuel economy) you had. It will change based on your driving condition ad drive in city or highway.

So if I only had 38 miles til completely empty, why didn’t my fuel low light not come on? On my outback, my fuel light came on when I had at least 60 miles left til empty.

Your reply makes sense now. So it’s not an “your completely empty” thing, but rather an average for economy . My fuel light will still come on.

It is a DTE display. But the distance is based on previous fill ups. It is possible that you may even see it go up after a short drive. It also may not decrease 1 to 1 as you drive. The more fill ups you have the more accurate that number will become. This method is very common on cars now.

I think these calculations discount the reserve which is typically about 2 gallons. Most cars won’t really tell you exactly how many miles are left because too many people will push it and end up stranded. You probably had about 1.5 gallons plus the 2 gallon reserve and the tank is actually 18.8 gallons so it makes sense that it only took 15 at the pump.

So I had an o_O moment today regarding this.

I usually fill up at about a quarter tank remaining but I was waiting until the end of the week to fill up at Costco. Anyway, on Friday when I parked it the display said I had 1 mile left. The next day I drove to Costco (which is about 5 miles away) and pumped gas. I pumped 18.5 gallons! Isn’t this tank only 18.8?

Anyway, too close for comfort.

Dont mind me. Im just curious to what the answers or explanations are as to why this happened

Living dangerously 😎. Probably 1 mile of range left if you drove aggressively.

Yea, I’m never doing that again. Quarter tank or higher always! When I had my Mazda one time the DTE read zero and I drove a few miles. I think there was about a gallon+ left when I pumped. I guess this one is more realistic.

I think you are correct!
