Questions About What A Dealer Can See

I have had a SX p/T on order since 31 Jan. Was quoted the normal 90-120 days. COVID shutdowns and the 2021 models shot that down.

Last week I talked with the small dealer I ordered with, they said an order in my name was placed in Jan and I was next in line for an SX. I asked them when they thought it would be here and they said December!!!! It has been almost 6 months since the order was placed, and say 2 months lost to COVID I am still 4 months, or 120 days, into it. Going to December would be 9 months (minus 2 months for COVID).

When I was talking with the dealer they said I was next inline at their dealership to get an SX. Today I noticed a new VIN for SX just like I ordered (except no towing and different colors) with my dealer listed. I texted the salesman and said hey I would take that one and they came back with no, they say it belongs to someone that ordered in Dec. So much for me being next inline for an SX.

If I bailed on that order and placed a new one at a big dealer would I be any better off?

Is there no one at Kia a dealer can check status with?

Any thoughts what the hell is going on with this dealer?

Lots of information that you can search out on this website that will probably answer your question, but that sounds about right. Smaller dealerships have shorter lists but just are not getting as many orders filled monthly as the larger dealerships. Since the factory auto-populates dealer websites with a stock picture as the vehicles nears completion, it is entirely likely the one you saw on the dealer website belongs to someone who is finally getting to the end of their journey. I waited 8 months for mine from a smaller "no overhead/ no markup dealer". It auto populated on their website 3 weeks before actual arrival. I would say as long as you have a confirmed order number stay where you are at or else you are just getting in the back of the line at another dealer. If your dealer says you are the next one on their list and you have nothing to say otherwise, then you are probably next up. I would "assume" since you say your ordered back in Jan, that means they have already submitted you order and it is not still sitting on a white board at the dealer waiting for an open slot to be submitted. My 2 Cents....

They sound accurate. Best case scenario if you're "next in line" for your order to be entered in KFOS would be November/December delivery. Entered in August (if KIA allows it that is, they did not take prestige orders this week for July's KFOS), at least 2 months to build and deliver, which would be some time in November.

If you're good with the tools on this site you may be able to locate one sooner. Just sounds like a really low volume dealer.

If your order was placed in KFOS, the dealer can give you the internal order number and a ETA. Have you asked for that information?
If they did not put in KFOS and no order number then you are screwed for a long wait.

No. They likely mean that you're next in line for an SX AWD allocation when they get one and can order the Prestige package. They are probably hoping that they will be able to actually order it in August or September KFOS with delivery by December. They probably just have your vehicle entered in kdealer request system as an "order".

Anyway, hang in there. You won't get one faster at this point with another dealership order. You can watch dealer inventory section on forum and try to grab it if one happens to become available, but you'll have literally 5 minutes.

We ordered our SX on 12/21/19. our current delivery date per dealer is 'early August'. (have not seen any vins that match our order yet)

Bought an S on 6/27 VIN 5XYP64HC2LG095596. Dealership said it would be in between 7/2 and 7/5. Called on 7/9 and they said it will be 1 to 7 days. Day 7 and can’t get them to respond back. Feel like I’m getting the run around and first payment is in August. I would be ok with the date if they would just be honest and shoot me straight instead of stringing me along.

Just go on cars.com and autotrader look for cars with tge features u want within 150 miles and then start making phone calls. Thats how I landed my sxp within one day of trying

Got this one at MSRP which was another first for me by paying sticker price. Awesome vehicle though and you can’t take the money with you when you go so why not. Lol!

That is interesting, perhaps a little odd even. I have never heard of payment being processed prior to delivery. What happens to the warranty? Does the in service date start on 6/27 and your 10 year warranty clock start ticking right away?

Yea I wasnt even sure that was legal. But then again this is my first new car purchase, interesting in deed. Hopefully it works out for you and you'll be driving it around this weekend.

Stanger things have happened. I worked at a dealership at a few years ago and a car was stolen. 6 Months later the stolen car was brought in for its initial 5,000 mile oil change. Turns out a little old lady purchased a car same color some and everything and they sent her home with the wrong car and N O B O D Y caught it. Her intended car was found on the lot still for sale.

You must have worked at a Buick dealership. What else would an old lady buy and where else would a car sit unsold for 6 months?

Sounds like your dealer is being straight with you, and a straight shooting local dealer is the only thing that is harder to find than a Telluride. So I would absolutely sit tight and wait for your Christmas present!
