Order to delivery time

Is there anything stopping him from selling it to someone else for let's say 5k more than what you paid?

Just playing devil's advocate with how sh*tty some stories end up.

I'd stop by daily and be like hello...give me my car..

By far the hardest way to spend 50k...
I'm not worried about that with my dealer. They've been selling these for about $400 under MSRP consistently since they came out. They seem to be working to build a customer base and play for the future rather than go for the bigger profit today.

It just kinda shows the arrogance of dealers regarding these cars. They know they're in control. We'll call you when we're ready to sell you a car. If you start beating down their doors, you show your hand and the teeny tiny bit of leverage you may have had to negotiate is gone.

The Telluride I ordered was unloaded from the truck Wednesday morning and after a day and a half and no phone call, I dropped by and was poking around looking at it, my salesman actually came out, recognized me so I asked him if this was my car and he said yes. (I knew it was.) So I asked what was up and he said that they weren't calling anyone until they had been inspected and the shop was backed up at the moment.

So I cruise by the next day around lunch, (Friday) and it's gone so I figure it's getting it's inspection. No call on Friday, no call on Saturday. It's common for these things to sit on the lot for a week or better before I see them disappear. I'm guessing that since these are all pre sold that they figure they're money in the bank so I'm starting to wonder if they wait until it's really slow and there's no one else around to sell another car to before they call someone in for their Telluride.

I'm not really complaining, it's just an annoyance that after people wait 5 months, they don't rush to put people in their cars. We will see when they call...
Unless the guy who inspects cars is out for some reason health/family issue/vacation this is crazy... I usually do same day pickup or worse case one day wait time depending on how many Tellurides got dropped off.. obviously if other cars got dropped off on same truck the Tellurides get priority to get inspected.

It's been that way even pre pandemic. They sit 7-10 days. I was actually cruising by when the truck was unloaded and the Sorentos, Seltos and K5 that were on that truck were on the lot yesterday without protective coverings and extra stickers.

My wife's cars lease is up in the next month.
What do you guys think about paying $500 over MSRP. I don't like the idea of paying over MSRP, but we do need an SUV within the next month. Dealer told me he would throw in all weather mats and free oil changes for 2 years. Does that sound reasonable?

I wouldn’t pay over msrp but this sounds right to me. All weather mats might be around $400 depends on which brand and if it’s for full car or just 2/3 rows. Oil change as well will add up. Ill got for it.

At the beginning of this year when I had pretty much made my mind up about the Telluride I said to myself, "I'll never pay msrp". This was before I truly learned about how in-demand the vehicle really was and what some dealers are getting away with...because SOME people are willing to pay WAY over msrp. I found a local dealer that I usually don't go to right away because they've become a "best price first" place and I actually don't mind playing the numbers game or the psychological game of back and forth, never showing your hand, etc. Some people can't be bothered with that or feel uncomfortable with this so these places work for many customers. Their prices are always "fair" but never the "best" in my opinion. That said, they offered 1% under msrp, have honored my 2020 finance price now that it got converted to a 2021, and have even given me a loaner for a couple of months since my lease was up. They didn't have to do any of this because my SX due in August will sell in a New York minute once it hits the lot. But they did...and so now they'll be one of the first places I talk to in the future, assuming no funny business at delivery but they've given me no reason to believe there will be any. I've never worked a day at a car dealership but to me, that's just good business and how you grow loyalty.

Now almost 7 months later I feel like I got a deal and a half...especially after reading some horror stories on this forum. Long story short, I'd JUMP on this deal if you're sold on the Telluride being your next vehicle. The problem would be, do they have something on the lot that you want or something available that is due before your lease is up??? Or, would they be willing to loan you something like mine until the ETA? Anyways, all things considered, this is a pretty strong deal.

Depends what trim IMHO.

They have an SX-P with nightfall in the color combination my wife wants coming in about 1 week after our lease is up.
We will be fine for one week with just one car.
I just gave a refundable $500 deposit for the SUV.
Appreciate everyone's response.

For $500 over MSRP as you mentioned in a prior post? If so, grab that vehicle. Then, share your dealer experience.

Yes, I’d have signed by now. 😉

That's reasonable

IMO, what's reasonable for a price is purely in the eye of the beholder. It doesn't really matter if you get a perceived deal or not. What matters is the value to you, and you alone. If the MSRP was actually $500 more, would you think twice? If the MSRP was actually $1000 more and you were getting it for $500 under, would it matter? In all cases you're paying exactly the same amount, so the way to look at it is whether the vehicle is worth that amount to you, in your unique set of circumstances, regardless of the price in relation to MSRP. One person's good deal is another's bad buy.

$500 over "sticker" is reasonable in this current market. I do not recommend anyone going out and spending $10k over unless money is no object to you and you're in a financial position to pay off the vehicle immediately. At the end of the day there are such things as bad deals with real consequences. Case in point the housing market 12-15 years ago.
Don't do it unless you're prepared to pay one way or the other. Although I understand the point you're trying to make, there's got to be some reality based in the emotional financial decisions people make.

Are dealers able to put orders in KFOS yet for SX-P non-Nightfall Edition?

Very odd. It wouldn't hurt to call them and tell them you are trying to arrange your schedule this week with work/family/<anything that sounds important> but want to schedule a time with them for pickup of YOUR car. What day and time you should you be there??? ;)

Last week some dealers got a special late (and limited) allocation for SX-P non Nightfall Edition Tellurides. I know - because I was one of the lucky ones. The next batch should be next month. My suggestion - get in line with your dealership today as there are probably people already on the list for an allocation.
