Non Nightfall SX Prestige Waiting Room

At least that gives you some solace as to you why they may have jumped over you - purely a decision by Kia. Some of their decisions are absolutely head scratching.

Maybe...but this is still someone that initially had an ETA later than me.

Holy Crap - I hadn't look at this slice of the data - but you are correct. The trend has been massively disproportionately weighted to Black Copper recently. @StephenCantrelle this aligns with the VIN that just dropped for your store today. Chart below is SX Prestige by color and month.

Probably a color batch thing then. If they did X number at a time then switched colors, it would make sense that a vehicle with a less popular color may get produced earlier. If they painted in batches of 100 for example, they would check off a larger percentage of BC orders than they would GG by the time they got to the end of that run of 100.

Just doesnt make sense, like to be honest, there can't be THAT many people still waiting for a SXP non nightfall that have been waiting for 6+ months. I would imagine most people would have moved on. Why can't Kia just freaking make a batch and get them knocked out? Ridiculous.

I ordered on or around Valentine's day and my dealer said it would be a 3-6 month wait for a SXP. Then the COVID shutdown happened so I added 2 months to his estimates. Then I got a call that the car was coming magically in June. Amazing, but my dealer was on vacation when it arrived and since it wasn't my order (which I knew because I had been following up with him about it being submitted in KFOS) another dealer sold it. My order got officially placed into KFOS in July on one the the bonus allocations Kia gave to some dealers. My name is on it and I have the order sheet. Original ETA was 10/17 or thereabout. I have heard nothing from my dealer (which seems like standard fare) so I reached out this week. Hopefully I'll hear from him by mid next week on an updated ETA.

If I didn't really like the car and it hadn't gotten such glowing reviews I would be driving a new X7 right now. Instead I'm waiting on Kia. It's been a frustrating process and my wife is pretty sick of it. Unless the car is awesome, I don't see myself ever ordering a Kia again.

Except they aren't made all in one day.

Not buying the batching argument.

So I talked to @StephenCantrelle about the latest car to "Jump in front" of the older orders. It seems KIA has made a change in the last month that is impacting sold orders in KFOS. I will try to explain it the best I can.

Most of us were in KDealer at one time or another and the dealerships were using KDealer as a place in line waiting for a build slot to open up based on store allocations in KFOS. So it was first in first out of KDealer into KFOS and then KFOS was first in and first out. Then about a month ago - KIA shifted production to help build dealer inventory and started filling sold orders directly out of KDealer as well as KFOS at the same time. So if you were waiting in line for KFOS for a Black Copper SXP like the one that dropped for Stephen's store today and the plant had an available car that matched your order in KDealer - they filled it and it jumped ahead of those like us sitting in KFOS. That is how most of the NFP's were being filled and jumping ahead - combined with the obvious prioritization of NF production.

It appears this move is to try and get dealers to move more to an inventory based sales model rather than a custom ordered based sales model which they have been doing for the last year and a half on all these Tellurides. So one of the things most of us have in common is that we were caught up in last old batch of orders waiting for an allocation pre-COVID. I'm sure there are other nuances involved that come into play - but the SXP that dropped today at my store was due to the change in order processing directly out of KDealer and not just through KFOS as it was done for most of this year.

But you don't know when they painted those bodies.

True...

Same could be said for Gravity Gray - production has been pretty strong for these bodies for the same period...yet hardly a single SXP build in that color recently.

Just food for thought. Do you think Kia has to use certain colors up before they expire? So, for example, the black cooper paint may be sitting for a while and they have to use it or lose it. Maybe I am overthink this or just trying to put logic into it. What are you thoughts?

I would think that their market research has shown them color preferences and they tailor their choices to what they think will sell best. Black, white and silver are typically the most popular color choices year after year. But, this is Kia. Who knows.

Agree with the beat selling colors, but silver has been one of the least produced colors and yet one of the more popular choices. So that doesn’t jive with logic.

Was thinking about that when typing it out. Everlasting Silver isn't a traditional silver though, is the only thing I can think of. Of course, we both know its 100% hands down the best color.

Black copper gets them an extra $500. They are padding their books to crush the rest of 2020. Obviously they can't keep making black copper for the next 3 months but I suspect they jump to the next color that has an extra charge - whatever that might be.

The GWP white also has an extra charge right? Makes sense as to why those colors are being pumped out, they charge more for the more "popular" colors. I'm personally okay with them flooding the market with those colors, makes mine more rare anyways. 😁

Same - I have yet to see a Gravity Gray in any trim here in San Antonio. I typically see white Tellurides.

Assuming their on a calendar year for reporting purposes - it looks like they are doing everything they can to show a strong recovery in Q3...at the expense of customer satisfaction on older orders.

Let's hope it's limited to Q3 and they snap out of it come Oct.

Been catching up on the past 48-hours of chatter on this Non-nightfall group, and wondering if y'all might be onto something with those of us who entered KFOS in July. Hmmm. At this point, there's no way mine comes before the year mark of my order date. Ugh.

Wow...yours is the oldest I have seen! Major respect for holding out this long. Yeah - I don't have a VIN yet but still telling me I will receive my vehicle in the middle of October.

I just wish they would pump out some GWP SXPs without Nightfall! Lord, let the flood gates open!

Another day...no VIN. But someone at my dealership got a VIN on a Black Copper SXP w/ Tow that is a newer order than mine....

Seriously beginning to wonder if my order is even real. First the NFP skipped ahead of mine and now regular SXP's are skipping ahead of mine?! WTH.

Did they give you a screen shot from KFOS?
