• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Let’s start with the lack of the Smart Power Liftgate. They took our order for the S AWD and when it arrived, uh “we don’t have it yet.”

I wanted to start this thread to keep track of any info or rumors on it’s availability.

Not interested in 3rd party options.

It would also be interesting to know how hard it is to actually install the thing.

Thanks!
Frank

Frank, I'm not sure I understand the question. Smart Power Liftgate was not an option on the 2020MY LX nor the S. It only comes in on the EX or SX. That did not change for the 2021MY. It also does not appear to be an official accessory so I don't think you can buy it as a kit for a dealer installed option. So if a dealer is telling you they can add it, I'm wondering if that means you can buy each part individually and then have someone take apart your tail gate run wiring and buttons and replace the actuators then configure your remote. At that point why wouldn't you consider a 3rd party plug n play option that comes in a kit with simple instructions?

This is the Voxx kit for the Sorrento that looks as good as what you would get on the EX or SX: https://www.voxxelectronics.com/advanced-driver-assistance/power-lift-gate/?sku=ADVLFTKSO

Well, I believe the brochure listed it as an option. They put it on our order sheet. We were told it wasn’t ready yet, not that it was unavailable. I’m not sure what’s true at this point.
Well, time will tell. If none from KIA the vox looks fine. Anyone know the price?

Can you post a picture of the brochure that shows it as an option on the S?

It went out in the recycling yesterday. ☹
It was a 2020 brochure. I probably missed it. It’s supposedly a kit for dealer install.

Not seeing the Power Liftgate as an option for the LX or S. This is from a 2020 brochure.

Yeah, they might have lied to you to make the sale. Just told you what you wanted to hear. Caveat emptor... it's never been listed as a Kia-branded accessory option from any dealer. Only factory on EX and SX trims. That's been in EVERY communication and brochure from Kia.

Well, I guess we can remove Fred Anderson from the recommended dealer list. I don’t understand the deception if you can sell every one you make. They could have probably talked us into the more expensive trim as well. I would have considered it.

Okay. This is the deal. There is no OEM kit for the Power Liftgate, like everyone else has chimed in on. What the Dealer CLAIMS to have told us, is that THEY install a 3rd party kit. It’s apparently not the Vox?? This kit is not yet available for the 2021 (neither is Vox). The bottom line is that to preserve the warranty, THEY need to install this particular kit. They are supposed to send me info on it which I have yet to receive.
More news as it happens.

The title of this thread needs to change. There are no "2021 Issues" related to the power lift gate.

Yes. Only issue here is not understanding what you were buying.

Far too many people are severely uninformed about these big purchases and don’t go in with any previous research or knowledge. You need to know exactly what is available and what you need/want. Never ever depend on a salesperson for anything. Their goal is to sell you a car and get paid. Most will tell you whatever you want to hear. This is not to say all salespeople are unscrupulous; we actually have at least a handful on this forum that give us valuable intelligence broaden our own knowledge to help others. But far too many barely know what car brand they’re selling, much less the different models and the intricacies of each trim level.

I’m on the Palisade Facebook group, and it seems like once every week or so someone is pissed that they bought an SEL without the option package that adds SiriusXM, even though they were told theirs had it. Putting aside why the Palisade doesn’t include it on all models or why you would waste money on satellite radio, the bottom line is these people should have known that was important to them, and made sure the model they bought had it. They didn’t; they depended on the salesperson’s word.

If you’re going to learn a buying lesson, best not to do it on a $30-50k thing that will depreciate.

I'm sure that one day someone will come out with a 3rd party kit for the Telluride. Just not yet. Good luck with Fred Anderson... now you know they just wanted to sell you whatever they had rather than try to upsell you to EX. Anyway, the S is a great value. Happy travels out there.

Curious, on that Palisade FB page...Are you seeing tons of complaints about seat smell like in the forum? That scared me off the Palisade.

I do. I don’t really pay much attention to it since we have not had that issue with ours. It’s not my daily driver, but I’ve never noticed it any time I’m in it and my fiancé hasn’t said anything about it. And presumably the seats are effectively the same as the Telluride except for stitching, so I don’t really know what the deal is. People be crazy, I guess. 😊

The 2020 brochure also listed "downhill brake assist" ......that was not and still is not available. So ..... it happens.

Downhill brake control (DBC) is an odd one. It was (still is) mentioned in the original press release on Kia’s media site, but hasn’t ever been brought up again. It isn’t included in either the 2020 physical or digital brochure that I have, or mentioned in the owner’s manual.

Even weirder, it actually is a feature included on the AWD Palisade. Go figure.

I propose "misinformed sales people sharing the wrong info on 2021 features."

How does one change the thread title?
Anyway, I can’t disagree with the one above,
However, keep in mind that there was no documentation on the 2021 that I’ve was able to find before purchase. We did extensive investigation on what we wanted, and comparison to the Palisade, which is the only other vehicle comparable. Other than the “miscommunication” about the Liftgate, we got exactly what we ordered.
Another aspect that maybe should be included in this thread is differences between 2020/2021?? At this point I suspect none. They simply restarted the plant and changed the MY. Yeah?
