2021 Map N Soft Update

So I did the update and see a few changes. Wondering what the "split screen" means when in the display set up? It has a few options for me to select including one called "compass." But whatever I select i'm not sure where those changes are made or what it even does? Thanks in advance

Split screen is for when using Android Auto or Apple Carplay. AA only uses part of the screen and before you could only have the AA logo there. Now you can select whatever you want to be in that window.

i will check that out. I did see where I was using navigation and could pull up a second screen and that was the split screen options I Earlier.

So far I've experienced two glitches since updating on 2021 SX-P wondering if anyone else has had this happen.

When using the right directional the blind spot camera would rapidly glitch back and forth between what appeared to be the blind spot view and 360/above view. When pressing the Camera console button the right side above view was glitchy as well. After turning the car off/on it went back to normal, checked and wiped the camera lense, but it happened again later that day.

When using split screen Apple CarPlay on iOS 14.0.1 running Pandora and Kia Navigation, Pandora suddenly stopped updating and was frozen on one song. When switching over to full screen Pandora it was operating correctly, but when switching back to Map/Nav split screen it still showed the same old info. Haven't seen this repeat yet.

does the map update fix the speed limit shown on the map for Canada? no I hate seeing the incorrect speed max on my HUD. Lol. Right now I full screen Waze from my Phone through Apple car play.

This update fixed the "Detroit" weather for me, and it's a much better setup than the original one I had.

The Heads up displays the correct speed on the map screen (option to turn on) and the dash as far as I know (I did not see a difference).

I only used the original for about a week, but I can say this update is well worth it for us Canadians just to get rid of the Detroit weather bug.

I’ve yet to see any sort of adapter that enables wireless Android Auto in the way that the CarPlay2Air dongle enables wireless CarPlay for iPhone users.

I’d love to be proven wrong, but I’ve searched long and far and have come up empty so far.

So I've been playing around with the dual screen mode and only see it function when I am not in Apple Car Play. I am using the factory nav since my acp locks up like crazy and that will be the dominant screen. I can see acp when i'm using media from my iphone off to the right and can toggle thru multiple screens on the right side. This works pretty well for me but i've noticed that for example if I want to pause my book on tape or music, I cannot just touch the right screen and have it pop up controls but rather have to hit media button below, and sometimes even have to open up what i'm listening to and have it paused from there.

Would function way better if I that screen on the right was active, instead of me hitting the media button below. The map screen on the left is active (meaning i can touch it and it will work) so not sure if this is something that will get updated later or not.

If I open up acp I don't see the option of adding something to the right of it-like my radio stations, etc.

I did the update and the KIA Nav now gives the locations of most of the darn speed cameras in NYC. However, it would be more helpful if it alerted you before you pass the camera and not after you pass it.

(14.5 update)I still have incorrect speed limits on my map, mainly for red light camera notifications. There is a 60 zone that crosses a 70 zone. While driving on the 60 zone it indicates the speed limit is 70 which would would get you a speeding ticket at the intersection for sure. Not sure if it fixes another spot near my house that thinks the intersection is a 50 zone even though they are both 60 zones intersecting.

I had a lot of nav issues this weekend in Putnam County NY. First it led me to a non-existent Starbucks on a very rural road that couldn't possibly have ever had a Starbucks on it. Then it led me to a gas station it said was on the way home that took me very much out of the way. The speed camera alerts are great but I'm starting to think the GPS accuracy is buggy to say the least.

What has everyone's experience been using Google maps or Waze from your phone?

I just drove from NY to Florida and I ran Waze the entire way. It worked great. I plugged in my phone to the USB port and ran Waze through Adroid Auto. Waze only fills up 2/3 of the screen and I hope a future update will allow it to run full screen. I only use the KIA Nav for local trips.

In terms of the most up to date points of interest, nothing will beat them.

Waze will provide you with the most up to date traffic alerts crowd sourced by other users in real time. Speed traps are particularly useful.

Apple Carplay allows to use up the whole screen for both apps if you have an iPhone.

Only downside is that you need to be driving in an area with cell internet service for it to work, unless you pre-download the trip to your phone so the map is already loaded on your phone through all the areas with no coverage. For city driving and most rural areas, this shouldn’t be an issue though.

I've found that so long as you open the Waze app through CarPlay but not enter a destination, you can still use KIA navigation but will still get audio alerts for speed traps, hazards, etc.

Seems to work fine for me, but I am in Alberta, Canada.

I just took delivery of my 2021 SX-P, which has either ver 14 or 14.5 already installed. I don't know if it was sent from the factory like that or updated by the dealership, but I take it as a good sign that other new arrivals will come with updated software.
