• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Putting some Nano Bond 9H on my Telluride.

What should or can you do with headlight lenses? Or even even chrome plated trim... will it hurt to get a ceramic coat on these and/or other shiny smooth plastic parts ?

I went into this with zero knowledge as well and used it as a test run before I look into doing my own exterior ceramics.

The application starts at 6:25. The beginning is just cleaning the seats which is very important before any ceramic applications. I used the cleaner in the kit.

Check that video out. This stuff is extremely forgiving meaning that the high spots or places you applied too much are easy to "knock down".
What do you use to clean the leather after the IGL coating? Any products unsafe for ecocoat?

They provide a cleaner in the package.
Right. Do you use that for every cleaning or is that a every 6-12 mo maintenance coating? I couldn't quite tell in the instructions and the video you posted.

For those that don't want to spring for the professional ceramic coating, ceramic spray on wax FTW:

My wife just picked up a Sx Nightfall editiion Sangria. I have had it for about a week and been trying to digest a lot about detailing. I am going to apply a ceramic coating. I do have a question on paint correction prior to applying ceramic coating. Will clay bar be enough? I havent paid attention to cars like I should since getting married and kids. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

I've clay bared about 50% of mine so far, I've seen three small marred areas that likely will require some polish if I decide to do it. I put about 1000 miles on my vehicle before I washed it. So... for me, I don't see too much that's going to need more than a claybar

Any particular clay bar. I havent clayed a car in quite a long time.

I bought a four pack of one hundred gram bars for $13. I'm still using the first bar. I'm using distilled water with a very fraction of a drop of dish soap in a quart of water as lubricant...

I spray, bar, spray again and carefully wipe off the water with clean micro fiber cloth. The biggest section I'm doing at one time is a door size spot. I have plenty of micro fiber cloth and swap out fresh ones frequently.

First time I've ever clay bared anything. I've looked pretty closely at the surface and I can't see anything wrong with what I'm doing.

All a have left to to is the roof and rear door. I may put off the roof for another day, since I'll never look at it anyway.

My goal is to clean up the few marred locations then get the Ceramic coating applied tonight. (Except for the roof)

Well, I powered through my desire to put off the roof for another day... I'm well on my way to finishing up my Ceramic Coating tonight... I don't have very good lighting though.

Recognize my garage door opener in the reflection?

I don't know about Nano Bond 9H but I just finished applying a different diy ceramic coating on all lenses, trim, exterior windows, etc without issues.

Looks great. Which product(s) did you use?

Thanks. I used Avalon King Armor Shield IX. I ordered 2 bottles which was enough to do the entire exterior. After applying 1 coat I had about 1/3 of a bottle left so I applied a second coat to the front grille, front headlights, bumper, hood. It was easy to apply and has good reviews. Will see how it holds up.

first wash since i picked it up today!

washed with chemical guys products: mr pink, then hydro suds and then coated with hydro charge.

Now you did it. You washed your car. Be ready for the rain. Can see it in the clouds. By the way, nice looking car.
