• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... 2021SX Cruise control causes rolling shudder of entire car

I have 21K on my 2021 SX AWD. Setting my cruise at 74, on rolling hills, intermittently the car will begin to shudder. The shudder will get progressively worse until I hit the cancel button on cruise and it will INSTANTLY stop the shudder. Tires and tire pressure are good. This is clearly an adaptive cruise control issue. If not cancelled, it will eventually smooth out. Sometimes it is worse than others. The highway is not the issue. Turning lane assist off does not abate the shudder, only canceling the cruise.
Anyone else have this issue? Solution?

So....you're convinced that it's an adaptive cruise control issue?
How far are you from the vehicle ahead of you when this happens?
Does it do it on all the interval/distance settings?
Have you tried just regular Cruise Control?

THANKS for the super quick response!!!

Using the maximum follow distance, (haven't tried closer distance) it seems to happen when I am slowly coming up behind someone slower. I will slow down to their speed and when we start up a slight hill and it requires more gas, it may start this shuddering. If I cancel CC, it stops shuddering IMMEDIATELY. If I then manually gradually increase the speed, it does not shudder. In fact, I have never had it shudder when not on cruise control that I recall and it only seemed to start the last few days.

It has also done it without anyone in front of me. It usually happens when under power maintaining speed going up a hill. Is there a way to use cruise without the adaptive part?

Thanks

Page 5-74 of the manual explains how to switch from Smart Cruise Control to just Cruise Control.

I think you can just push and hold the vehicle distance button for more than 2 seconds.

If the problem is only with the SCC you may need to get the dealer to re-calibrate the radar on the front.

Here you go...this is on a 2020 Manual. Double check with your owners manual to be sure.

I'd schedule an appointment with your nearest service department so your issue can be documented, and hopefully fixed.

Thanks guys! Yes, it happens on smart cruise as well as cruise. I went out today, recorded a glass of water on the console as the vibration started and ended abruptly when I cancelled cruise. I’ll post the video tomorrow. THANKS

Thanks everybody!
I went out yesterday with a clear glass of water in the cup holder and recorded the vibration. It happens on adaptive regardless of distance and regular cruise. It only seems to start when the T needs slightly more power to maintain speed. Here is the video I uploaded to YouTube...

As an aside, I had a z71 truck that would start bucking in 4 wheel low when it needed to downshift, but couldn't. Dealer said it was torque converter.

I spent some time in very dense stop-and-go traffic the other day and mine was shuddering as well...it was most evident when the brake would be released, and the car was deciding how much to accelerate. It would frequently accelerate too much and shudder before slowing down. Seems in general adaptive cruise control is very aggressive getting back to set speed and slowing down way too early even on shortest follow distance. I have to initiate passing maneuvers at like 1/4 mile so it wouldn't start aggressively slowing down.

There is an aggressive setting on the cruise I think. I seem to remember mine is set to the least aggressive setting.

This video shows you how to set how fast (aggressively) the cruise will resume a speed. She show you about half way through.

Telluride 2021 Shudder Vibration with Acceleration PROBLEM
Took my 2021 into the dealer and they put in a case with Kia. Kia came back with a host of tests for the dealer to run. They determined that the issue is not cruise control as I had thought, but gradual acceleration in general and not all the time. Kia is sending a replacement drive shaft to try that. The dealer said Kia indicated they needed more people to report the problem for it to turn into a recall. I'll report back.

The dealer told me it is due to acceleration in general and they are ordering a new drive shaft.???

SHUDDERING 2021 Telluride SX AWD - 22K miles. Now it shutters at speeds from 45 to 75 when accelerating. Bulldog Kia in Athens Ga "force balanced the tires" and then replaced the drive shaft per Kia's recommendation. I didn't't think that would fix it and it didn't. In fact, it may be worse. Bulldog is doing all they can. Now they are replacing a coupler. There are no codes and they can only do what Kia tells them to do. I am an hour away from the dealer and each time the repair is a miss, it costs me at least a half a day. Obviously, it is frustrating to spend this much time on a new car.

Coupling assembly was what Hyundai called for replacement in their TSB on a similar issue on the Palisade.

Good luck!

I don't know how this will happen with the insane trade-in offers that people are getting and the high priced used. I'm sure some people will look at the cost of their time to keep taking it in for repair and just offload the headache. If the problem goes largely unreported then the used vehicle inventory will likely see the problem. Unless it becomes a TSB or recall the second owner will not get a 10yr/100k mile warranty. The second owner gets transferred only a 5yr/60k mile warranty. So if I were buying a used AWD Telluride with a good number of miles, I would strongly consider a third party warranty. At the very least take it up to highway speeds before you buy. On the other hand, if Kia can't fix the problem and someone can develop an affordable aftermarket fix, used AWD Tellurides might be a bargain.

Did the problem get fixed? We are experiencing the same thing with our 2020 Kia Sorento SX AWD 24K with Adaptive Cruise, Foward Collision, and lane keeper.

I have the same shuddering in my 2021 Telluride on cruise at 72-74mph. Taking mine to the dealer tomorrow.
