• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Has anybody else had this problem? I don't know how it got there, so I assume it was there at birth.

Could have been pulled out while twisted and then let go. Now there is a fold inside. Can try to repeat to unfold it?

Similar to when seatbelts can get twisted and the buckle inverted.

Thanks, I have looked into that, having removed the plastic piece through which it moves, but I can see no way to reverse it.

At this point it appears the entire seatback cover would need to be removed. Given that, I can just live with it.

It is also hard to see how, with so little play, it could have happened when I was pulling it out. That leads me to believe it came that way from the factory. I am curious if anyone else has the same issue.

I've seen such many times in my shop (on Beemers, though) whereas it's seemingly impossible for any belt to twist. It can/does.
Not having been inside the seatback of any KIA, I'd think a twist (from birth?) is at hand. Most usually the mechanism (holds the drum, spring & belt wheel) only bolt in ONE way. Making it difficult to install incorrectly. IOW; designed so that it can't be installed backwards.... Usually.

I know if it were in my shop, I'd spend a few minutes fully extending the belt and holding out, then peering inside with a strong penlight to observe the direction (?) of the twist, then try to reverse it. However, if you add to, rather then, reduce the twist (?) you'll make it worse. Albeit, I've had years of experience of manipulating such things.

Perhaps someone has a pic of the mechanism/release belt with the rear cover off. "A picture is worth a thousand words."
If you do solve it, please share here.
Good luck

I would be happy to take a pic.

I have, as you suggest, taken the plastic trim around it off, and peered behind the cover with a pen light. There is straight strap as far as you can see.
