  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... This guy, Keven Hunter, is a former salesman who has a great channel with tones of helpful information about the sneaky (sometimes dishonest and even illegal) tactics used by dealers to squeeze as much $$ out of you as possible. If you've not seen this guy, I recommend taking a look at some of his videos. Some very useful and helpful info. Here is just one example:

He's pretty thorough and covers a lot of the shenanigans we consider red flags like "nitrogen-filled tires", crazy "document fees" or "electronic filing" fees, exterior/interior "protection" packages and mysterious coatings/treatments, "window VIN etching" as "theft protection"...

Thanks for posting this! Very informative. Given how crazy the current situation is, I’m a little nervous about going to finalize the deal when my car does arrive! Anyone have tips for outright declining or negotiating down a “dealer prep” package on an MSRP order?

My only thought would be to get the agreement in some kind of writing. Either an email or screenshot of a text with the salesperson. I doubt you’ll have truly signed anything binding upon ordering the telluride, but I guess some people might do it differently.

I’m assuming you’ve already ordered.

Don't be nervous. 😋

Stick to your guns and put your foot down if they try to tack-on any last minute surprise charges.

It's like anything. With a bit of practice, after the initial hump, each subsequent time you decline gets easier 🥳

You can politely and firmly say "we decline" or "no thank you" at each and every point in the sales process, from the first day you put down the deposit to the day you see your car on the lot the step into the office of the finance guy (be prepared to smile and politely decline multiple times on the day you get your car).

Far too many people reward bait-and-switch dishonesty and last-minute shenanigans by accepting scams like nitrogen tires and window etching and other BS out of naive "politeness" and trying to rationalize getting scammed because of fees/scams sold as "protection" or "security" packages.

Dishonesty should be punished each and every time.

Also, be prepared to walk away and not accept delivery if they pull a bunch of last-minute tacked-on nonsense.

I won't do business with unethical scammy types.

Most importantly, enjoy your brand new Kia Telluride when you get it (y)
