However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. My 2022 Telluride S is set to arrive in late May (ordered in January). There were a few things I wish it had but was happy enough to order one. Except now the 2023 X-Line comes along with EXACTLY what I need (we're big kayak haulers so the better roof rack and front tow eye are going to be fantastic, and blue is consistently my favorite car color). My husband thinks I'm nuts but I'm thinking about getting the 2022 as planned and then trading it in (or selling it on my own) when the 2023 arrives. I figure I should be able to sell it for pretty close to what I'm going to pay (I am paying a small markup, but it's still way below the average in my region). I'm just curious what other folks might do in a similar situation? Should I just simmer down and wait for the 2023? Or should I enjoy the 2022 for a few months and then get the one I actually want for the long haul?

Personally I am would take the 2022, order a 2023 and drive it until you get the 2023 since there is such a long wait on them coming in. That is what I am potentially thinking of doing. I've waited 7 months for this 2022 and I don't want to wait another 10 months or longer being at the bottom of the line..lol. I figure selling the 2022 to a person will not be difficult if/when I can get a 2023 timely...LOL

That's exactly what I'm thinking! I'm tired of waiting! Glad I'm not the only one. :)

I would personally wait based on a few things. The way I look at it is the "cost" of you doing it this way is that you are paying sales tax on the 2022 and whatever difference between your small markup and private sale. Carvana/Vroom in my area are above MSRP on their offers so it is possible that covers your small markup, but you'll still be out the sales tax.

If you do not urgently need it in May, I would ask your dealership if they can put you in line for a 2023 and see what they say.

Another option is you can attempt to negotiate with your dealership saying you do want the 2023, but will also purchase the 2022. They may be willing to "lock-in" a trade-in value for that one. Not very common but I have seen some dealerships willing to do this on reservation/orders. This may also be beneficial if your state does sales tax credits on trade-ins.

I appreciate that. I hadn't untangled the sales tax implications yet. I'll dig in. I did call my dealership and let them know to call when 2023 orders opened, but they're not the most responsive (friendly enough but definitely not going the extra mile), so I don't get the feeling they'll be really motivated to help me out.

What dealership are you working with? I know you had mentioned you did not want to wait and go to the back of the line. You can consider a high-volume dealership. I had worked with i-25/Fowler on my purchase and I thought it was a good experience. Dominic was my salesperson, I think there is a Nicole from there that is highly regarded on these forums. You can put in the order and periodically check with your salesperson on if they have any allocations coming in that customers backed out on. My purchase was one that a customer had backed out on so I got mine in like 2 months. That worked for me as I was open to different exterior colors. If you are set on blue, this may not be a benefit to you. Their doc fee is on the higher side and there was some weird stuff between them and my credit union on the finance portion, but ultimately I was able to do all the paperwork out of state and was able to purchase and pickup the car without stepping foot in the dealership.

I bought a 21 Toyota hybrid Avalon last March....sold it for 7K more than I pd for it in December...ordered my Telle then and it took 3mo to get it.. I got way more for it than a dealer trade in..plus I got mine before all the mark ups happened. Waiting is the worst...but so happy now...

Plenty of unknowns here. Kia wants to increase production by 20% and if you follow price trends... large SUVs (and probably mid-sized SUVs) used prices are falling due to higher gas prices.

With an EV.. I'd say buy and then trade/sell but with the used Telluride market softening.. who knows. I know I can get a new Telluride for a few thousand markup in Florida at 3 months or less. If you get tax savings in a trade-in.. I think you should be fine though.

If you will not be happy unless it's a 23, then hold out. If you take the '22 and have to wait for some amount of time to get a '3 then a number of things can change. If you are counting on your 22 having great re-sale value, that is a very big bet. There is so much uncertain right now. Your resale value could be close to new MSRP or it could be $5k less, not even factoring in the sale tax you pay.

If you'd be happy with the 22 then take it now. Do the order for a '23 and if all works out then take the '23, otherwise just keep the '22 and bail on the '23.

I ordered my 2021 (In March 2021)and by the time it came in (6 months later) I ended up with a 2022. Talk to your dealership tomorrow!

I called all the dealerships I've put a deposit and told them to disregard my '22 order and place the same specs for a '23 as soon as ordering opens. I thought about getting the '22 and drive it and sell it when my '23 comes in since the '22 are marked up so high. I figure I would find the dealership with the highest markup and sell it back to them to get the closest to payoff but since the '23 is so much different than the '22, I'm not sure the '22 will be in as much demand when the '23 start hitting the lots. So I'll just wait.

I did just sell my car in preparation for the '23 so I'm w/o car right now so it might've benefited me to get that '22 for now but I'll just have a bigger down payment to pay for any add-ons like tire and wheel and key protection.

I have a 2022 Sorento X-Line, that I bought in Nov. 2022. On 6-11-23, I was hit in the side. The repair work is Beautiful, but I want to trade it for a 23 Telluride. How can I do this ?

Find the dealership that will give you the most for it (including CarMax). But from a dealership that won't put a markup on it.

As already said, find a dealer that will offer the same as CarMax. Keep in mind that unfortunately the CarFax report will gig you for the accident/repair.
