Aftermarket Wheels for the Telluride

Love those wheels! Is that a Bronze or Gunmetal finish? Anyway looks great with that lighting :)
Bronze with black ring. I really like it too, especially on the Moss. I saw a similar bronze rim posted earlier in this thread which was the inspiration

@westcoastTelly here are a couple low angles. It’s grey and dark outside.... so not great

My rims and tires came in this afternoon! Straight to pick up (Tire Rack warehouse for rims) and install (Discount Tire for tires and install). The Telly is dirty as we've had snow already here in Minneapolis, but thought I'd share a just-installed pic.

Rims: Ultra Nemesis CUV 18x8 +35mm offset
Tires: Falken Wildpeak A/T3W 265/60 r18

The ride/handling is excellent. I'm liking the slight bit more cushion in the ride (but barely different, just takes a bit of the edge off cracks/holes in our terrible roads) from the stock 20's. The noise is slightly more noticeable than the stock tires. Slightly.

The car looks awesome. yeah very slight increase in road noise and gas usage for me. It went up about a litre for me.

Here’s a few more. I’m not going to do a lift for now, though do think +1 or +2” would look sweet.
No rubbing as is. But tires are about flush to the outside so I’m guessing would rub with a heavy suspension hit in the rear.
Great setup! I'm using ur fitment as a reference I just want to make sure once you got the wheels and tires mounted there were no issues on the stock suspension such as rubbing?

The only thing I've noticed thus far (with about 350 miles on this setup) is that on a few occasions when I've been going in or out of our driveway while simultaneously turning I'll get a slight rub as the vehicle hits an angle which is compressing one of the front wheels up. I'm fine on inside clearance, it's the outside edge of the wheel which is catching the wheel well plastic ever so slightly.

This hasn't been any more than a minor brrrrp a few times. But I do believe it would be an issue in any type of situation that truly travels the suspension up front while wheels are turned -- not sure if wheels straight ahead would also rub. I'm not planning on doing a lift as my current plan is to go back to stock 20" rims/tires for summer driving. But I also really like the look and ride quality I have with these 18's so perhaps a lift down the road if I find it problematic.

Good to know. You think going down to a 55 instead of a 60 will give you that "brrrp" sound? I'm looking to use this setup for some light offroading and camping

I was thinking of some Black Rhino Sandstorms 18x8 +35 and wrap them in 265/60

hey brandon, correct 20 x 10 would be a 10 inch wide wheel. you'll need a pretty wide tire to fill that wide of a wheel. i think 20 x 10 would be overkill. a 20 x 8.5 wheel would go well with a 265 width tire. the stock 20 is only 7.5 inches wide running a 245 width tire.

on a related note, not all wheels are made by the same construction process.

avoid any wheel that is gravity cast, these are the weakest wheels. one bad pothole, and it will crack, a huge safety problem.

here's a simple list of wheel construction. there are others but these are the main constructions.

1. gravity cast - AVOID!!
2. low pressure cast - good
3. low pressure cast with flow formed or rotary forged - better
4. forged - best but super expensive.
So, maybe I am strange, but I actually like those stock EX wheels, non premium. Do you know what kind they are? Hopefully not gravity cast.
I wonder which wheel would hold up/look better in the snowy, icy conditions. Does road salt ruin the black paint?

I think you'd need to make a number of changes to ensure no rubbing on the outside edges under high load.

I went outside just now and put the Telly up on one ramp in the back, to get compression on two opposite corners. The ramp isn't quite tall enough to drive compression to the point of touching, but this is providing some good data. Here are some photos, and explanation of what I'm seeing.

Looking at the driver side rear. I put a tape measure in on top of the wheel and placed the end of it right at the point in the wheel well where the inner plastic starts to ramp up the ~2" extra clearance. Looking straight down from above (sorry the photo doesn't do a good job of this), there is almost 1" to the outside edge of the tire. So, in order to tuck into the wheel well the outside edge of the rear tire needs to be 1" inboard:

Moving up front to the passenger side front. The methodology was the same - find the inner wheel well recessed point, measure from there out to the outside edge of the tire. Up front the tires stick outboard by a little more than 1 1/4" inches. The photo does not do the measurement justice, since I didn't the photo straight above. But the measurement showed that the outside edge of the tire would need to be 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" inboard in order to tuck under and in to the wheel well recessed section.

I then cranked the steering wheel hard over and took a look at the gap between the inside tire wall and the strut. In here there is about 1 1/4" of gap, so could comfortable go Inboard 1" with the tire wall. It doesn't appear it would rub anywhere doing this, but hard to say if perhaps on full lock the opposite direction it might up front.

So, in terms of your question about being able to fit by going down to 55 height, no, this alone won't get them to fit in the wheel well entirely. I think you'd need to reduce the width as well. Another option is the 2" truxx lift, which others have done and like. (I'm considering it).

Great pics, thanks for doing all that research.I am definitely getting the Truxx Lift Kit. I think with the lift and the setup I want I should be good.

anybody planning on wheels for their Telluride? the stock 20s are only 7.5" wide from something I've read... i want to order some rims before my Telluride arrives so i can put them on right away, but im trying to figure out what i can fit... i found a set i want, now i just need to figure out how wide i can go... and whether or not to jump up to 22s. i was looking at 20x9, or 20x10.5, but now im thinking maybe 22x9.5...thoughts?
I have 24x 9.5 on mines so clean i get stopped everywhere ...

never say never .. I'll post all day long on this lol the only one rollin around like this right now.. I go to the kia dealerships and they be on my nuts lol.. enjoy...

KIa Dealers don't understand car enthusiasts , so many years selling "cheap" cars then along comes the Stinger , followed by the Telly and they get new customers that would never consider a Kia and they dont have the skills to handle the "passion" , they 'll get there , but they really need to up the dealer experience !

not sticking out no rub smooth ass ride
