On my drive back home from having these two items updated, I had an alarm go off for about two seconds combined with a steering wheel shake and a message of "Emergency Steering" appear on the dash board. In the eleven months I have owned this vehicle nothing like that has appeared before. I called the dealer that applied the update and they said that message appears when you take your hands off the steering wheel. Yet, for my 70 year driving history I have always driven with my left elbow on the window sill and my left hand holding the brace member of the steering wheel. I seriously doubt that I did not have my hand on the wheel. And, again, in the 11 months that I have owned this vehicle I have never seen any message like this.
On the second day, when I started the car I got a different message on the dash saying that my gas was very low. There was no indication of any gas level, just a cautionary yellow-orange fuel pump icon. I put in about three gallons of gasoline I had in a gas can for my generator and the gauge when to a full tank ( which was about the amount I had when I took it in for service ). Obviously three gallons does not take a tank from empty to full. So far, the mileage remaining is showing gasoline consumption while the gauge seems to be remaining at full.
This is my first experience with KIA updates and all the electronics that have been added since my last car. Are all "system updates" this problematic?
Update 6/8/24 - It looks like the fuel gauge is working well too. I finally put enough miles on the car to make it start to reflect gasoline usage. So, maybe all is OK now. Very strange behavior for and update for a "braking issue".
Thanks in advance for any feedback on this. It is quite disquieting.
