Anyone purchase an extended warranty?

Did anyone buy an extended bumper to bumper warranty or extended warranty on electronics for their Telly? If so, what was the coverage/cost? My SX should be in next week and I'm debating whether or not to get an extended warranty.

We were offered an extended warranty for 10 years or 240K kms. The cost was $2,499. Given that I've never purchased extended warranty, I politely declined.

I've also owned another Kia before and it had no issues. I'm hoping that our Telluride is also as reliable as our previous Kia.

I purchased the extended bumper to bumper, making it 10/100 and matching the powertrain. The original dealer I dealt with wanted $2400 but my local dealer offered it for $1690, before taxes. The peace of mind was worth it for me, especially on a first year model.

Usually don't recommend extended warranties, but may not be a bad idea if have a vehicle loaded w/ tech.

But can usually shop around and get a better deal on the warranty (see above) - make sure it's the manufacturer's warranty plan and not some 3rd party.

Based on what the finance guy was telling me, even the original warranty is technically third party. The warranty I purchased through them is offered by the same company who provides the original though. But yes, definitely need to go through Kia as those third party ones can be shady.

No, we didn't buy it. You can purchase the 10/100,000 bumper to bumper warranty from Kia anytime within the original bumper to bumper period. Right up until 5 years or 60,000 miles. I figure if I run into issues and want to keep the telly, I'll buy the extended warranty at 59,000 miles. No sense spending the money now.

Story... Back in 1992 I bought a Chevy Work Truck..with a 4.3 V6. It's warranty was for 50K in mileage. Just before I hit 50K I noticed some smoke at startup. I changed plugs and even cleaned the TBI. Still smoked...now just past 50K and I thought..well...past the mark. BUT.... I knew several people who also had the same 4.3 and they too remarked on smoke at startup. So I went online and low and behold...there was a ton of us...same issue. I went to the dealership..( truck wasn't over 5 years old) and asked about it. What I got was... No idea or notice it was an issue...soooo no...go home. Well I called GM HQ and told them the issue and with a swift reply, they too knew nothing of this issue so I sent them info on same issue I found just in my circle of friends and others in my area..

Next thing I know I get a call from my Dealership. The said.."You didn't need to call HQ...we could have set something up." I told them I talked to ____ and was told______ so..I called HQ. They were told to tell me to bring in the truck so I did. One of the reps said to me...We will tear off the intake and heads and if we find it all gunked up that I will pay for it. (It was leaking valve seals and the material they were made of was less than ideal) I informed them that I didn't horse the truck and the oil was changed every 2500 miles...if there was a bunch of sludge on it...I would eat it. Turns out...they replaced the seals and I didn't pay or have a meal. Now... I still have the truck.... motor hadn't smoked since then so...THEY had faulty parts and you need to fight if you think you are right.

My point...go ahead and pay for extended if you want... always your choice and if it makes you sleep better...so be it. If you have an issue you can't come to an answer on locally... just go over the heads... sometimes it works out. Your call....

many exclude tech as well just FYI, there are packages designed just for Tech.

We had a bad experience with the dealership when we bought the extended warranty and gap insurance (they were doing their darnedest to recoup the $5k over MSRP they removed during negotiations). We ended up cancelling both when we refinanced with our credit union and got them through them. Cost was a third of what the dealership charged us for same coverage.

Yes they REALLY over charged us and shame on us for not catching it beforehand, but at least they could be cancelled and the problem resolved. As a result of their shenanigans, not only did they lose the sale on those add ons, they’ll probably lose out on their dealer earned incentives for us not carrying the loan for three months.

If you decide to get them at the dealership make sure you know what you are paying. Don’t let them disguise the cost by wrapping it all together and talking in terms of payments.

Eneded up getting a 10/100K bumper to bumper (includes tech) for $1600. I'm happy with that considering all the tech the SX has. No worries for at least 100K.

I ended up with an extended bumper to bumper 10/100,000 mostly as a concern for the electronics systems which I was surprised to hear are only covered for 3/36,000 - paid $1800

Correction from earlier: Audio & electronics are covered by the 3/36,000 limited bumper to bumper warranty.

I checked with Kia directly. All electronics are still covered by the 5/60,000 bumper to bumper warranty. That part about 3/36,000 was fake news.

Well, it seems Kia customer care didn't know about the warranty change for audio and electronics to 3/36,000. Maybe the extended warranty will prove beneficial.

my wife insisted we get the extended warranty being a first year car. As the saying goes Happy Wife Happy Life, so yes we got the extended warranty for 1560.00
