If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... The indicators for the Blind-Spot Collision Warning that is the yellow light in the door mirrors does not appear at speed below approximately 20 miles per hour. Is this the way the system is supposed to work?

I believe so. If you activate your turn signal and there is a car in your blindspot, there will be an audible warning and you’re steering wheel should vibrate. So not to worry.

Sometimes when I am just traveling in a straight direction, the side indicators don’t illuminate as cars approach me. There are also certain conditions where it won’t work, such as a sharp curve on the road or driving on a slope.

At highway speeds though, the side indicators always comes on as cars approach from behind. It might not come on when you are passing a car that is already in front of you though.

This is one of the areas that Kia could of done a bit better. I wish these were a little more aggressive in showing a vehicle in my blind spot monitor and the indicator was a bit more noticeable, like a Volvo or Nissan. I've found that the indicator just comes on when the vehicle is right there and i've been in plenty of other vehicles which give you a little more notice.

The Telluride actually does a very good job of warning you of fast-approaching vehicles that you might not even be aware of yet. The light/warning (if you signal) will show up based on the other vehicle’s distance from you and relative speed.

Confirmed today it does. I passed someone and checked the mirror and the indication showed up

Thanks to all!
Living in LA maneuvering at low speed is not unusual in traffic. No blind-spot indication below 20 mph is missed as my last vehicle would indicate if a vehicle was there even at a standstill. I have proved that with my Telluride there is no indication and no audible warning or steering wheel vibrating warning with the turn signal on below 20 mph. Will check with the service department when I take it in for first service.
Leaving Tuesday for the first road trip towing a trailer. Will be interesting.
Would be good to know if any other Tellurides have indication and warning with turn signal on below 20 mph.

Can’t think of a time when these conditions existed for me and I have looked into the mirror. I will try next time the conditions exist

qwikhit,
I appreciate you doing that!

  1. Did you check if you have both BCW and BCA enabled in your Drivers Assist menu settings in the instrument cluster?
  2. In the same Driver Assist menu, the Warning Timing setting can be changed from Normal to Late for three reasons according to the manual (Normal is too sensitive, traffic is light, or you travel at low speeds)
  3. When you attach a trailer to the Telluride, you are supposed to disable BCW/BCA in the menus.
  4. Do you have a bumper bully installed or anything that obstructs the rear bumper?
  5. Did you buy the car used? If so it may have had rear collision damage to the sensors in the bumper.

There is also a huge list of limitations of the system if any of them apply to your driving situation.

Was out of town with no internet connection. AZ desert to get away from the LA crazy for a while.

Tellthemride,

Thanks for all the info and attachments.

Verified with the dealer that the Blind-Spot Indicators in the mirrors does not work below 20 MPH. Also, verified the Collision Warning does not work above 40 MPH.
First long road trip towing trailer and will say the Blind-Spot Indicators, Smart Cruise Control and Lane Keeping works really well on the highway. Towing a 3500 pound trailer with 470 pound tongue weight was really good. The Lane Keeping took a little getting use to. It reacts to things down to the pull, push of 18 wheelers in a good way.

Thanks to all for your help.

Wait, what?!

This is certainly untrue. There is a bit of a range of operating speeds based on type of object and the warning type (initial warning or later active braking), but the FCA system most definitely does not give up at 40 mph. Might need to reread some of the manual. 😉

40 miles per hour is wrong but this is what the dealer gave me.

Reminders: • FCA-Ped/FCW will be activated by default when the ignition is cycled ON, even when the previous setting was OFF. • FCA-Ped/FCW will not operate when the vehicle is traveling faster than approximately 45/50 mph, respectively. • If FCA-Ped is operating and the ESC (Electronic Stability Control) is turned OFF, FCA-Ped system is automatically turned OFF. • When the FCA-Ped system is off, the FCA-Ped warning indicator is on in the Instrument Cluster. Warning: FCA-Ped and FCW are supplemental systems. Never intentionally attempt to activate or test the operation of the systems. Do not solely rely on the systems and always drive safely.

So this is for the Pedestrian feature of the FCA. Which is has a different parameters for vehicles.

I understand the confusion with these features...and the KIA reference materials can also be confusing at times.

I hope that is true. I like the FCA working at all speeds. You are right some of this info is confusing.

Remember that there are stages to this feature and are dependent on the setting you chose on the Driver Assistance menu.

1. Collision Warning (which also may slow down your vehicle slightly)
2. Emergency Braking--where the brake control is maximized to reduce impact for potential collision
