Sorry if this is covered, there are 40 pages in the Buying section, I searched - "out of state" "cross state" didnt see what looking for. I have never bought out of state before.
As I look each day on failcat for exactly what I am looking for, I see a few pop up that match. I know when see it that I should call the dealer and see if its claimed/customer order. So my questions are assuming its unclaimed...
1) Do you guys go to that dealership and buy or buy via phone/email, assuming its more than 300 miles away?
2) If you call and dealer says its available, do you give a deposit to hold it, assuming will take couple days to either get there or work out details? If yes, is that refundable?
3) Do you drive it home or ship it? Not sure want to put that much stress driving on brand new engine.
4) What if you wanted to trade in your current car? Does it matter if that is registered in diff state? Of course if doing this, assume have to drive to dealership so that would answer #1 above.
5) How do taxes work? Would you pay taxes in state you buy or the dealer doesnt charge you tax but your state does when register?
6) Do they give you a temp plate that will be allowed to drive cross state?
7) Any states you would avoid buying from, states not dealerships? Ex maybe would buy from LA because vehicles might of been thru hurricanes/floods.
Anything else I am not thinking of? Like I said never bought out of state before.
Thanks
