California Telly Owners! *tips, recommendations, etc.*

I'm in the market to purchase my first family SUV and have definitely had my eyes set on the Telluride since I first saw it 2 weeks ago. With that said, I know it has been SO difficult trying to find Telluride SX-P/nightfall editions on dealer lots -- even more so, finding them at or near MSRP. For you who currently own Tellurides or have done a lot of research, what is the best way you've went about purchasing or placing an order?

I'm currently located in the Sacramento-area and have reached out to local dealers. The markups have been crazy ($5K at Folsom Lake Kia [order time is 90 days], $5K at Roseville Kia, and $12K at Elk Grove Kia). I've seen many posts recommending Hilltop Kia in the Bay Area, which I've placed my order, but 8 months is pretty far out! Wanted to get a sense of way you all may have purchased. Did you suck it up and pay above MSRP? Did you order out-of-state? Did you wait? I'd love to hear your experiences and any tips on purchasing here in CA! My excited side wants to have one TODAY, but my rational side also does not want to pay more than I should for the vehicle. 😅 ANY tips, recommendations, or advice would be amazing!
I must have scored... I am in CA and got the grey Nightfall at Kia of Irvine 3k over. Used my SW air miles flew down on a Saturday morning and drove it back to silicon valley....I didn't order it was on the lot found it on their website

What’s up with the $12k markups at Elk Grove?

Silly Valley/Lost Angles we can understand the price gouging, price padding, fake fees, but is Elk Grove a booming area or what?

People must be getting fleeced left and right up there. 🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑

Congrats!! That's so awesome!!

Yes, it's definitely a booming city for sure! But still....$12K markup is ridiculous. Just went again 2 days ago, and it's still the same markup. Smh! 😩

Just placed an order at i25 Kia with Dominic. Process was really simple and they were incredibly helpful. I am getting it shipped from Colorado to NorCal. He said it could possibly come by end of June.

Telluride EX with Bench Seat
Gravity Grey
Nightfall Custom Conversion (they don't sell nightfall with Bench seats!) I'll keep everyone posted!
Curious what it cost to ship to NorCal - Seems like the best option I can find if the shipping isn't crazy (and smog test/registration isnt a hassle!)

$1500 shipping. Also then I didn’t have to waste 6 hours for 2x round trips going to hilltop. That’s how I justified it!

$1500 if it's from i25 Kia. Waaay better than paying some of the markups though.

That's not bad, and much cheaper than the markup! I will give them a call and see about a quote from there. Thanks!

Okay, picked up my Valley Kia of Modesto order today. Was roughly 8 weeks from initial conversation and earlier than Kia ETA. Paid $1,995 over MSRP and couldn't be happier about that given the state of the market. Jaymz Maurer and finance Manager Martin were great guys to deal with. They did mention they are going to raise the order markup a bit due to MY22 Telluride price change.

Congratulations !!

8 weeks is quick.

What's the specs of your Telly?

AWD or FWD?

Trim level?

Classic or NFE?

Tow? No?

Interior Color?

Exterior Color?

Any OEM All-Weather Floor Mats or Carpeted Cargo Mat? Accessories?

Pretty stock Wolf Gray SXP, no tow and just the OEM folding ream mat and cargo cover. The folding rear mat is not what I expected and kind of pointless (it doesn't stick to the back of the third row or really fold in any special way).

The OEM Carpeted Cargo Mat w/ Seat Back Protection is what you want 👍

That Canadian mat will be awesome for whoever takes it!

Also, as a tip for SoCal people, the dealers will sometimes offer a straggler vehicle at MSRP to meet their quota if you're open to trim and color. The way to get the updates is to inquire via email and then let them know you will buy at MSRP only. Weeks later, we have gotten follow-ups that they are willing to sell one at MSRP that day. The latest was a Sangria EX at Irvine. But we would rather work with an up-front dealer and get exactly what we want.
Hah! We just test drove that one on the 18th. The sales guy kept commenting that it wasn’t a popular color, but he would “get rid of it” fast. I guess that means MSRP. :)

I too started my journey about 4 weeks ago casually searching for a Telluride just to get a feel for the market. I called almost every KIA dealer up and down CA and i was told either 6-10k markup or you have to wait 4-6 months. Last week i found the one i wanted, Black SX P/N/T, at a dealership in San Diego and only had to wait 1 week. This trim and configuration goes very quickly here in So Cal so after talking to the dealer we agreed on a 4k markup and i picked up the car 2 days ago.

i could of waited 2-4 months by going to I-25 or somewhere else but i was willing to pay the 4k to avoid
1. waiting 2-4 months
2a. having to fly and drive back from CO
2b. having the car shipped to me for $1500

Good for you, knew what you wanted, went out and got it.

I just bought a 2021 SX/NF/P/ tow from Rally Kia in Palmdale for $1000 over MSRP. I ordered one from them in March and they happened to get one in their allocation earlier so I only had to wait a little over a month for it. They even offered to flatbed ship it to my house or drive a couple hours to meet me in order to make the drive/ pickup shorter.

Anyway, I initially tried calling around to all the CA dealers and, like everyone else, tried Hilltop but they have a wait of 8 months and told me they have roughly 200 customers already on the list. The other local dealers like Elk Grove are charging insane markups ($10k over msrp) Anyway, if you are looking for a telluride in CA you should try Rally. Back in January when I first started looking they were charging flat msrp so you might be able to negotiate that depending on the model. In any case, it was super fast and the sales team was awesome. Salesman is named Gabe.

Thank you for the lead. I’ve sent an inquiry to Rally. I’ve been emailing dealers all day. 5K markup at Irvine and 11K at others. The price to beat is i25 Kia (MSRP+1500 shipping).

I also looked into Hilltop and they said closer to 9 months. That’s why I ended up going with i25. They were a lot more confident. Worth the extra cash and they were incredibly

Hey Sephghast. I too am looking at exact setup like yours! I want the Gravity Gray w EX w bench seat with Nightfall edition. Are you getting EX without Nightfall edition and dealership doing conversion? How much extra? Keep us updated with pics when you get it.

I am doing the i25 thing and ours was supposed to be ready on 5/28 but got a call last week that it was already at the dealership. We are planning a family road trip back so I wont get it early but the process has been easy. They offer some nice add ons but I just went for the hitch install, with my auto luck recently I did not want another driveway task.

When did you put your order in??
