Canadian 2021 Telluride

FYI Unhaggle now has the dealer cost data loaded for the Telluride Nightsky, available in their free report. Invoice ("dealer cost") is $52,577. Kia.ca reports MSRP of $55,695, which is basically invoice plus assumption of 6% dealer profit margin.

"MSRP" is typically just the dealer invoice price plus the % profit dealer markup, and prior to add on-of the mandatory costs (destination shipping charge, regulatory/environmental taxes). That is how MSRP is listed on the kia.ca site. In my case, the MSRP quoted in writing to me by the dealer had the mandatory roughly $1900 destination charge also included, for some reason. That being said, the comparable price they quoted me also had the destination charge included, so it was an apples-to-apples comparison at that level, and not misleading.

The dealership did seem a bit confused on the Nightsky pricing, as I think mine was their first order.

Mandatory fees in AB are $2,021 (delivery/dest charge, tire tax, A/C tax, AMVIC), which gets added on to MSRP, and then there are any additional items which the dealer seeks to addon such as doc/admin of $500, which is really just an additional profit, and further profit in terms of any additional high profit margin addons such as winter package, security, coatings, etc which they may seek to sell you. And then PST and GST on top of that total. The OTD price (out the door) is the final total.

Price discussion can be a bit of whack-a-mole. The dealer may agree to "drop" the doc/admin charge, as long as they are making adequate profits in the other profit components of the overall package. The written detailed price quote that they provide you bears close review to ensure that you understand the various components.

The more add-ons that you include as part of the package deal, the more potential there is for you to get misled by the numbers, unless you are careful.

At the end of the day the dealer needs to make a fair profit, and the buyer needs to feel fairly treated and not gouged or misled. A buyer being well prepared with the numbers and understanding the various pricing components is helpful in achieving that. I was happy with the deal I quickly reached in less than 45 minutes after entering the dealership, and it's very comparable with the reference benchmark purchase OTD ballpark numbers kindly shared in the forum by @Stoney, @GreekWiz, and others here in the Alberta environment.

@GreekWiz got his VIN a week following early August order, which seems to be a record. My order was put in a month later, so fingers crossed....

@Western not sure if this helps or not, but when I was dealing with some sales managers lately, one of them was able to hook me up with their dealership specific pricing link.

Perhaps you can find what you are looking for here: Accessories Link

Thanks for the follow-up @dansta. From what I can see, and with AB pricing, for the Kia branded accessories, the parts number and prices are:

Floor liners front (premium): S9H17AP000 $223.42

Floor liners rear 2nd and 3rd row (premium): S9H17AP100 $305.39

TOTAL: $528.81

less upcoming 10% off accessories sale: $476

Premium Cargo liner 60/40: S9H12AP000 $274.19

I did find it interesting that this link also provides yet another option, as further down it lists Weathertech branded premium mats, and at a lower price than the Kia branded version, and which I didn't see listed on the dealer site.

Investigation continues lol !!!!!

Thanks for the follow-up @dansta. Unfortunately this site has the same problem, with various Kia branded premium mats (made by WeatherTech?) all listed as have the same part number (S9H17AP000).

However I did find it interesting that this link also provides yet another option, as further down it lists Weathertech branded premium mats, and at a lower price than the Kia branded version, and which I didn't see listed on the dealer site.

Just from a floor liner standpoint, I ended up ordering a set of maxpider ones. All three rows for the Telluride was $255+tax from partsengine.ca. Shipping is free so thats a bonus.

My buddy spoke highly of the mats and preferred them over weathertech. Just may be another option in case you are thinking of it.

From the photos on the Tuxmat site the 7 pass and 8 pass mat versions appear identical, and missing this strip up the middle for the 7 pass version. Maybe the photo is just not current.

I got you covered... I emailed Tuxmat and indeed wrong photo.

Check my post here: Best Cargo Mat (POLL)

@GreekWiz, if you could provide the actual part numbers that would be very helpful!

The invoice does not have part numbers, but the text he sent me has these:

S9H12-AP000 - 60/40 Cargo Mat
S9H17-AP200 - Weathertech First row mats
S9H17-A300 (this might be AP300) - Weathertech 2/3 row mats

Once my trailer hitch issue is resolved I will gladly show what I paid for them, but until then I want to stay in the dealers good graces.

I could look under them on the weekend and see if anything stamped.

I would ask them to give you a good deal at Straightline for them.

@dansta thanks for the follow-up and suggestion, I'll check it out!

Hi @GreekWiz, thanks for the comments and photos. Yes I am pretty sure that these are made by WeatherTech and branded for Kia.

One of the problems is that on the Kia dealer accessory sites is that they show the identical part number (S9H17AP000) for various different protectors (cargo 60/40, front, 2/3, etc), so no wonder confusion and errors arise!

The list price for this premium 1/2/3 (and excluding the cargo 60/40) is $223 + $305 = $528, and less the current 10% off sale, is $476, versus around $350 for Tuxmat. I'll also check to see what direct order from WeatherTech looks like.

I like the Kia-branded WeatherTech look, and I think the Kia/WeatherTech is better suited to the 7 passenger layout with a strip front third row running up between the row 2 captain seats. From the photos on the Tuxmat site the 7 pass and 8 pass mat versions appear identical, and missing this strip up the middle for the 7 pass version. Maybe the photo is just not current.

For appearance and functionality I will likely go the Kia/WeatherTech route, particularly if the dealer is willing to narrow the price gap somewhat. I am buying a bunch of other accessories as well if they can come up with a fair deal.

@GreekWiz, if you could provide the actual part numbers that would be very helpful!
WT 3 rows = 391cad
2 rows = 282cad

@GreekWiz,

The TuxMat 7 Seater set does indeed have a strip down the middle of the captain's chairs. Post 488 shows a little flap that is there. hard to see. I have these mats and will post a clean pic when i have a few minutes.

Thanks @GreekWiz. I looked further at the kia accessory site link that @dansta provided, and see liners and prices listed corresponding to your part numbers:

WeatherTech Floor Liner – Kia logo – Front - S9H17AP200 - 194.45

WeatherTech Floor Liner – Kia branded - 2nd & 3rd Row - S9H17AP300 - $262.66

TOTAL: $457

Less 10% off sale $411

With the WeatherTech brand name and the Kia logo I would have assumed these were top of the line - I am puzzled at what the differences are between these and the other somewhat more expensive liners listed a little higher up on that same site, as per my post earlier today.

Investigation continues lol !!!

The Tuxmats look good too but I guess for $60, I like the red Kia badge and the non bubble look of these as opposed to Tuxmat.|

I have WeatherTech in my wife's car also.

Can't go wrong with either, it's all personal preference IMO.

husky makes floor liners as well but they don't have any for the 3rd row for some reason.

The first time I have heard of Unhaggle was from these forums. Does it actually work? Just so I understand correctly, you pay the $99. Enter all the details of the car (trim, colour accessories) and then Unhaggle sends it to dealerships who will then submit their cost? The idea is this is their lowest cost that they are willing to sell to you and you won’t be able to get it lower from them on your own?

Unhaggle is another way of buying a car. Your understanding of their process is correct but it is definitely not the lowest price you can get (YMMV).

If you are able to negotiate a better deal, they will be able to refund you the 99$ fee.

What I did was take the invoice price (free from unhaggle), emailed a ton of dealers within the GTA (Hamilton to Cobourg) and filtered out who was willing to work on the price.

Thank you. Maybe I will do the same... Is there much truth to end of the year (December) is one of the good times to buy because dealerships are trying to reach quotas?

Definitely, end of Quarter and end of year, there is always a push.

The thing with the Telluride though is that it is a hot seller, so its somewhat of a wash? Demand is high and a lot of dealers tried to just play the MSRP game.

just wondering if any of you guys looked into tinting your Tellurides yet?

I would assume we could just tint the front two windows, as the rest come tinted from the factory. Trying to determine what % would look best.

We dont have our telly yet but I in BC it is illegal to have front windows tinted not sure on the rules of ON. On my wrx I had my front windows tinted the lightest possible just so cops wouldn't notice. Still have to do my fronts on my truck. If you were to tint it I would just tint it the lightest possible obviously depending on what rules ON has.

It's been a round a long time, and I thought about using them, but with the Telluride, because they sell so quickly, I figured it was not "worth" it to me. I was looking for a specific color and trim, so it was worth it for me to factory order it and just wait.

However if I was buying a Forte (for example) then yes I would use it. Since there is cars on the lot at several dealers. That said, I am sure you will get the $99 saving back even on a Telluride if you are not picky on color/trim, etc.

There is a few services like UnHaggle in Canada. I can't remember the name of them off hand as I am at work.

If you go to RedFlagDeals, Unhaggle have a thread going where you can ask what the dealer pays for the vehicles, and it's free. The $100 is them contacting several dealers on your behalf to try and get you a deal. Thus why it might or might not work with the Telluride.

[Edit] Sorry did not see Dansta replied above[/edit]

@dansta I have done it, front 2 windows in 3M Ceramic tint to match the back exactly. I did ceramic for the option to maybe do the backs some day for heat, but I doubt I will.

From the inside, I don't even know I have them done. It's not dark enough where I expect the cops to give me too much of an issue, but regardless it's all illegal in Alberta. I used to have 20% on my Monte Carlo SS and cops gave issues now and then. The Telly in the back is 35% (I just confirmed with the place I got it done at, it's 35% so it matches, I was not sure). I don't see them giving me issues, as they are more relaxed these days as long as you are not being a dickhead. I also have a clear (not tinted) covered plate to protect my personalized license plate, I expect to be hassled more about that than the windows.

I am looking to take pictures to show you (and others) of my progress with this and a few other small addons (camera, etc), but the weather in Calgary has been overcast with smoke from BC, so no pictures taken yet as I would like to try and get the Black Copper showing.

[Edit] Screw it, here you go, reminder overcast, not washed/[Edit]

I did. In Alberta it is also illegal, but in 7 years they have never issued a fine. and the fine is a ridiculous 57 bucks. I wanted to make 20, but I measured the rear ones with the device and they were 22-23. I was afraid that the front would be darker and it would look funny, I did 30.
