Cleaner for the engine

Does anyone have experience with having to add a fuel cleaner if I use top tier (Shell) regular gas.

There's a number of products out there. Professionally I've tried most and most do something albeit, only two that I've tested (No I didn't test them all) really did something worthwhile. I stocked and sold Liqui-Moly Professional fuel system cleaner. LM Product #2030.
Also Redline S.I. works.

Many folks just love Techron. I have found it to be just slightly above average in use at my shop.
I still use the Liqui Moly #2030 in my retirement.

It is interesting that you recommend a moly based product as a carbon cleaner.I thought moly is a protectant for a surface.
Also,since you have experience with the Telluride,I.notice that several owners of the 2020 have had to replace their motors.They did experience oil usage in between changes.I have the 24 and is the same motor.However,it uses no oil in between changes.Since is probably the same motor I am somewhat concerned. Any thoughts on this issue?

"LIQUI MOLY" is a longtime German brand. The largest private oil label oil company in Germany in fact. They started out a long time ago producing high quality motor oils for industry. Now they offer many things oils/cleaners/chemicals.
I think you are confusing the name of the product with what's inside the bottle??

I have come to trust the German brands over the decades. The laws are very different there than here in the USA. Egregious claims of restoring your engine, raising compression 50% etc... will land the company in the courts. It's just plain against the law over there. If it says it can do XX and YY, it will.

As part of the testing regimen, we would occasionally use a borescope to inspect the back of the intake valves and the combustion (tops of pistons) chamber.
The "fuel system cleaner, will help promote clean injectors and tops of pistons. Unfortunately, since the advent of D.I. we no longer have fuel washing the back face of the intake valves.
Top Tier fuel and motor oils help keep that in check.
