Do we really need change oil around every 4K?

Most normal cars are just like this. None of them have oil level indicator for pressure, temperature, or capacity.

What cars did you have that tracked these items?

Only my Camaro, which is a track-ready vehicle, has oil pressure, and oil temperature gauge. It does not have oil level but it does have oil life monitoring system. None of my other cars had these features.

I had a 79 VW bug that had an oil gauge but that’s only because it was harder to put a measuring cup under the engine each time I parked it.

yeah my husband just laughed at me when I called him shocked that there was no oil indicator on the Telluride. I drive a Nissan Titan which has a load of gauges it's also about 15 years old so it will definitely be a different experience to have the Telluride.

But I doubt that your Titan has oil level gauge. Most new cars don't have oil temperature or oil pressure, let alone oil level gauge. I've owned 11 different vehicles and only my Miata had an oil pressure and the Camaro has oil temp / pressure gauge. None of them had any oil-related gauges.

Note that the Telluride DOES have engine coolant temperature gauge which is not the same as engine oil temperature.

Hmm I have 2008 bmw that tells you if oil is low and tracks when to change it depending on the driving, it’s set on 15k but it changes every once in a while

The stinger has oil temp gauge and boost gauge .... no oil pressure gauge. Most cars just have an idiot light for oil pressure.

Funny story about this....I was told by a mechanic that the only vehicles that ever had oil level monitors were a few GMs from the late 90’s and early 2000’s. I happened to own 2 of these vehicles at different time while in college and couldnt believe it wasn’t a standard feature on all cars. They actually worked quite well and saved me a few times. I guess after 59 years GM finally fixed its oil pan issues that caused like everything they made to leak oil and figured they were obsolete!! Lol

Just rented Dodge Journey, 7 seater, had it for 300 miles, 23mpg mixed driving, V6 engine, gets a nice boost. 2nd row mediocre(my bmw 5 has more room), 3rd row 2 seats, for tiny kids, can’t put anything there not even car seats,, no space behind 3rd row. 19in wheels can’t stand road noise. Going on a long trip over holiday, wish I had Telluride or Palisade.

Lots of cars have oil temp/pressure monitors... Both my 350z and Jeep GC had them. Anyone who is going to do towing should want those features - along with transmission temp. Its a bummer the telluride doesn't have them.

Edit: btw the reason cars dont have oil "level" gauges is because the levels aren't as important as temperature and pressure - both tell you about an issue before low levels will.

I can’t believe with all the tech in this vehicle that there is no oil pressure/temp gauge. Every car I’ve ever had has had one. I hope it at least has a sensor and idiot light which arguably grabs attention better than a gauge anyway.

if oil pressure drops, the red light on the instrument cluster will come on. but as a rule, it will be late, but you will immediately know that soon the engine will need to be repaired. Why do you need to know the temperature of the oil, what does it give you in this car, it's not a sports car.

I took delivery of my Telluride SX-P last month Aug 17. My dealer made an appointment then for me to bring my Telluride in for an oil change in October. I was planning to let the dealer to the oil change but after reading several posts here of not sure what you are getting. I am doing my own oil changes. I have purchased the fumoto valve, rhrino ramps and Mobil 1 full synthetic oil to do my own oil change. As others have commented unless you have someone you trust only go to the dealer for warranty work.
