Hey guys, wife and I are on the hunt for a Wolf Gray SX N/P/T (towing isn’t necessary but nice to have) in WA state and struggling to find anyone not marking up. I’ve scoured FailCat and there is a dealer in Oregon who claims to have one unsold coming in this month but wants $8k over MSRP. I can’t do it.

For those buying out of state (and hopefully for someone in WA who did this already) is there any additional work that needs to be done when registering? Do these out of state dealers take care of it even if they’re not familiar with your state’s rules and processes?

Also, would like to take advantage of Kia’s 1.9% financing offer - has anyone ran into issues with this? I would think no...because you’re not utilizing any other offers, but with out of state, do they get weird because you’re not in their zip code (even if that offer may be available in your home zip?)

Looking through the dealers on here that seem to get good reviews and sell at MSRP but if any WA locals have gone through this process, would love your experience and who you worked with!

Thanks all.

You pay sales tax based on where you live WA, not where the dealer is. You can ask the dealer if they do registration/tax for your state. Unless the dealer is near state border, most will not do the work for you. DOL WA has all the additional fees listed so you can figure it out ahead of time. When picking up the vehicle, you will be paying agreed price plus the dealer fees. You will have to pay sales tax, registration, and title on your own at DOL.

Kia's 1.9% is national offer and all dealer should be participating. You can even apply for it at Kia.com and bring the pre-approval with you.

Here are few I found in FB with dealers selling at MSRP near WA. Information is about 2 weeks old.
Lee Johnson in Kirkland - Kirkland, WA 98033

West Hills Kia in Bremerton WA

Performance Kia in Everett

George Gee Kia Liberty Lake Washington

Got it. My 10.4% sales tax would be nice to just roll into my payments but that’s the cost of going out of state - totally fair.

What FB group are you referring to? I’d like to join. Of the ones you listed, I’ve called the first three and sadly they’re all marking up. Lee Johnson wasn’t but now are doing $2k on SX and I got told $5k at Bremerton and $6k at Everett. Yikes.

@beyondmiles

I live in Seattle and got one at effectively MSRP. Had to pay $200 for a brake light swap out - fine.

Picking up on Monday. Will let you know how that goes. When I got the call that the car came in yesterday I specifically asked if the dealer participated at Kia Financing posted financing deals from KFA and they said they do based on the VIN.

West Hills was were I went. My order went in on 9/25 and taking delivery on 12/7.

Lee Johnson had 20+ in line ahead of me for SX-P and they would do MSRP when I talked to them in August. $1000 deposit there. When I was researching they had top 2 or 3 deliveries in the State.

For what it’s worth I live in Seattle proper and sales tax in Kitsap is less over there than in King County. Saves ~$500.
So I got my car faster and for less than buying in Kirkland. YMMV

Super helpful. Do you remember who you worked with? Maybe I’m mixing up West Hills with the Burlington dealership on markup. But I’m pretty sure I called them and they told me all I could get was an LX. I’ll try again tomorrow.

Did a quick search on "Kia Telluride Owners", "Kia Telluride Owners Group". "KIA Telluride Buy-Sell-Trade" is a good one to keep an eye on. Most dealers there post their available stock/incoming at MSRP. Also you might want to check on the sales tax with DOL. Quick google search showed 6.5% sales tax for cars on WA. 🤷‍♂️

That’s the base state rate but local taxes add 2-4% additional. I think the best combined sales tax rate in WA is about 8.5%, the worst about 10.5%. This is charged on the dealers address, not home address, so I don’t know what rate is used if you buy your car out of state - perhaps they use your home address.

We are in WA and in the final stages of getting our car from an out of state dealer.

We ordered with Amanda from I-25 Kia in Colorado. Ordered at MSRP with a $500 refundable deposit. Amanda was very clear and honest. With the ETA approaching, she finalized our additional customizations and sent us the documents overnight. We’ve reviewed, signed, and just sent back.
As far as the taxes, we paid 6.8% WA tax. It will be financed into our monthly payments. We also received Kia financing.

Very helpful. Are you guys shipping? Mind sharing cost and did the dealer have a service or did you have to coordinate that separtely?

So seems like they’ll do the state tax but when you register you’ll have to pay the remaining local taxes, yes?

Spoke to Tricia at West Hills. Very nice. No markup, quoted turnaround time is 6-9 months but it looks like you got it under 3. She said only additional was dealer installed LoJack type of thing that equates to about $988 but said lots of cars are coming in at under MSRP whatever that means.

There are two dealers close by with exactly what we want coming in, but at a $6k and $8k markup. I don’t think it’s worth $1k/mo to have it now versus ordering. Think this is the route we’ll go.

We are shipping. The dealer arranged it and it will be 1300 (insured). I believe it costs more during the winter months. We would have picked it up if it wasn’t winter.
And yes, when we take it to DOL, I am sure we will have to pay any remaining unpaid taxes. The paperwork we signed had CO and WA registration papers.

@beyondmiles

picked mine up yesterday. I’ll give you what I know
