• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Has anyone experienced any malfunctions with the 2020 Telluride in regards to the Frontal Collision Warning System? My husband and I have had multiple instances where the FCW system has engaged sporadically when not neccessary causing the brakes to lock and the vehicle to slide needlessly. When we took it to the dealer to be inspected they found no error code and stated that the FCW system was only supposed to engage when cruise control was in use. The instances these "sporadic malfunctions " occurred cruise control was NOT in use. We were told to monitor the situation and try to log when and if it reoccured, time of day etc...Any others having this problem?

Have not heard anything from customers but thank you for reporting.

No problem here. Read manual carefully about FCA System - it starts on p 5-57 and continues all the way to 5-71. Make sure that it's not happening for one of the reasons in manual. Other than that, keep a log, take a video/photo if possible. Definitely get it fixed under warranty if there's an issue.

In truth I need to read the manual. The dealership tech stated it was only supposed to function during cruise control. However, it should not lock and slide your brakes when you are in complete control of your vehicle and aware of your surroundings and there is at least 5 car links between you and the vehicle in front of you. AND it did not assist me when a car crossed completely into my lane and almost hit me head on. It was of no use whatsoever. It HAS engaged in stop and go traffic at our childrens school in the car rider line where they ask that we stay in close proximity to the car in front of us. The FCW system has become more of a danger than a help at this point. I LOVE, love, love my Telluride but I detest the technological "upgrades" like lane assist. I know how to drive. I turned the feature off the moment I learned it was going to wrestle the steering wheel from my hands in every curve.

Good news is all those safety features can be turned off manually if desired! Even FCA. There is a little summary manual that came with the vehicle on all the electronics and systems. That's a good read too. Likely more tech on this car than any other you have owned...

Yes, it should not have done that to you, but it is active without CC...Hope they get you fixed up, that has got to be a scary ordeal

When they checked it at the dealership it WAS already off.

FCW or Forward Collision Avoidance Assist-Pedestrian (FCA-Ped)? By the behavior you are describing the malfunction is with the FCA-P. FCW gives you what it says....just a tonal/display warning as a result of the FCA-Ped being triggered.

That being said, you cannot permanently turn it off. Once the engine is restarted it'll automatically turn back ON.

I believe the FCA-Ped works with the front RADAR. Do you have something covering the antenna? Perhaps a low mounted front license plate? Also, not a 100% sure, but FCA may also work in combination with the front camera (but I don't think so). Did you replace the windshield but didn't calibrate the camera?

Also, FCA-Ped automatically turns ON by default execpt when
1) going faster than 45/50 MPH (FCA-P/FCW respectively)
2) ESC is turned off

It has nothing to do with SCC.

Except this one cannot be turned off permanently like the others. The FCW defaults to "on" every single time you turn on the car.

I have experience similar issue twice. But not as bad as yours.
The collision warning system activates when i still have time to break.... Once it initiated a screeching brake when the car in front was taking a right turn and i did not break knowing i will pass thru straight in time as the car in front of me will turn. But the system took over and applied emergency breaks.

There is no system called FCW in the manual. On page 5-58, it says that FCA Active Assist can be disabled along with warnings. Is this the system we are talking about? What trim? Nevertheless, I'd get it checked out.

This is an EX, and as I mentioned in the original post, it's been in the shop for over two weeks now and neither the dealership tech nor engineering appears to know what the problem is or how to fix it.

Whatever the system is called, it is misfiring without any threat, and well above the alleged operational threshold referenced above (45/50) and in other things I've read. I am aware that it can be disabled, but it defaults to "on" every single time the car is turned on. It cannot be disabled permanently like all of the other safety features.

Ah, I understand now. Sounds like they need a software fix or a sensor needs to be replaced. I hope it gets resolved... please post your solution once Kia fixes it. Two weeks is a long time... I am sorry for your frustration!

I appreciate that. The issue is truly on Kia's side, as engineering has not responded to the technician's requests for information since September 23. Spoken with five separate Consumer Affairs people, all of whom are trying to blame the dealership...can't imagine why.

Thanks for the responses, and I'll be sure to provide any information I can obtain on the fix. Gotta love a safety feature that is more likely to get you killed than provide protection.

Yeah, that's not good. The forum can be good to find other folks with the issues - then by banding together hopefully a solution can be found. I believe that this strategy has worked for several people regarding the vibration issue - and then they were able to share resolutions as individual dealerships were often clueless.

Kia already had to issue a recall for their Optima Automatic Braking system which doesn't always work:

Seems like we're all just beta testers at this point.

Sorry but you are not the OP so I’m confused when you say “as I mentioned in the original post” comment.

That being said, you are saying that your EX is locking brakes at speeds greater than 45/50 MPH and randomly?

He had a separate thread... and merged into this one. Check his post record.
