My EX doesn't have an cover behind the bulb.

If you don't have a cover then you are missing the piece. My EX has the cover on both sides. It is sealed a headlight assembly.

Are the corresponding "left" photos the OE halogens?

Yes, the first photo for each “set” of pictures is from the OEM halogens. I’ve been recovering from surgery and haven’t had a chance to post updated pics after adjustments but hope to soon.

try visiting this website. www.headlightrevolution.com this guy breaks down almost every led bulb on the market in both reflector and projector headlights. you get to see which bulb will work best before you buy and how many lumens its really putting out down range. so far the three best are the v4 supernovas, putco nitro lux, and the gtr 3rd generation. probably gonna get the putco nitro lux since the heat shield is really low profile and won't require and modifications to the headlight.

I'm tempted to try out the v4 supernovas. I don't really want to sacrifice light output just for the light temperature color. I thought about just installing HIDs but a high quality set will run just as much as these plug and play LEDs.

These aren't cheap but maybe you get what you pay for...

I have the S model. so am i to understand you just replaced the bulbs only?? can you post pics of the installation or was it just like plug and play type?

Installed some RS Terminator series LED headlights yesterday and am extremely happy with how they turned out. Need to tweak the alignment of both bulbs a little bit ran out of time last night. They’re bright though and I haven’t noticed any dead spots yet. Will take some more pics tonight for those that are interested. These are fan-less, which was nice from an ease of installation standpoint, and weren’t terribly expensive. They also come with a three year warranty.

Most, if not all, aftermarket LEDs are plug and play. I don’t think I’ve seen any that require a fan and wiring harness that weren’t included and already attached to the bulb. The thing I liked about the ones I went with is that they don’t require a fan, making it easier to fit into the housing.

You can find a variety on Amazon. I would just make sure they say CANBUS ready. You’ll simply remove the dust cover, unscrew the bulb housing and unplug, plug in your new bulb and screw that back in the same way the old bulb came out. Make sure all 3 prongs go in or you will have an odd light pattern. Then replace dust cover

Yes, I had to adjust them to get the alignment right after they were installed. I purchased mine through my sound guy and he installed them free of charge while doing some other work for me. This is a link to the company’s website though:

I just installed the Diode Dynamic 9005 SL1 LEDs, per recommendation from AutomotiveCustomLighting on facebook and think they look promising so far. They are definitely brighter than the stock halogens while maintaining a good beam pattern. There's 2 nice hot spots just like the stock halogens, just larger and brighter. I'll need some more time but pretty happy with them thus far.

Did some night driving and pretty satisfied with the DD SL1 LEDs. I think the key is maintaining the overall OE beam pattern, keeping the 2 hotspots where they should be.

These do have a fan on the heatsink and I did notice a small "whine" when the engine was off and headlights remained on but it ultimately doesn't bother me.

I don't have a light meter so I can't measure the actual lux. They are significantly brighter than stock though.

I did a fair amount of research before buying these because they aren't cheap at $150. But they seemed to perform well on numerous different projector housings across different manufacturers so gave them a shot. I may try one other LED just to see if the grass is greener on the other side but plan to keep these for now.

Take that 12,000 lumen rating with a grain of salt. Lots of companies will try to tout high lumen ratings but they are based on theoretical calculations. For headlights, lux is what effectively matters too, not lumens.

1 lux = 1 lumen/m^2

As you can see, none of the LED replacement bulbs can produce anywhere close to 12000 lux.
