(im)patiently waiting in raleigh, nc :)

One thing I don’t understand about this process is that the number in line doesn’t appear to be like a number in a deli line system. For example, if you are #20 in line at a dealer but there are 5 people in front of you that want the same trim and color/interior combo that isn’t the most popular to make are you really #20? Since Kia only makes so many of each trim and color per month are they going to keep sending the same dealer allocations to fill orders that are identical? Compare that to being #30 in line for a more common color that Kia makes and there only being 1-2 in front of you wanting the same combo. Won’t the person who is #30 have a higher chance of getting picked up before the #20? It’s like going to the deli and everyone in front of you wants turkey and you are hoping there is enough left before the deli person has to go in the back or they tell you they are out for the week. Or like going to buy toilet paper during a pandemic and only wanting to buy 3 ply. Is there something else I’m not seeing? I know we are in a supply and demand curve at a macro economic level but unless Kia took custom orders even without pandemic production shortages and microchip supply chain issues, at some level in this ordering system supply is influencing the demand at the Telluride selection choices always because there may be people who only want one color and if they can’t get it they won’t want to wait forever if they need a vehicle. Knowing what number in line you are along with how many in front of you with the similar request is probably the most telling.

The dealers should definitely make it clear that there are multiple lines and they don’t move at the same speed.

I’ve tried to find out how many SX-P are in front of me and the sales guy says he doesn’t have that data. Seriously. How hard is it to build an excel sheet with a pivot table?

I’d prefer to have a realistic view of my wait instead of the number of total orders because that really doesn’t tell me anything. I know they only get a limited number of SX allocations and the prestige adds more chips to the car. I figured I’d have a long wait and the 6 months they quoted was best case.

Not surprised they won't share that detail. If you were take the 2 hour drive between the two Hendricks in Cary and Concord you would pass about a dozen other Kia dealerships along the way. You might walk and try your luck with one of them if you weren't happy with the answer. You are probably still playing the highest odds by sticking with the highest volume dealer.

I’ve seen others on this forum that have had that level of detail, so it doesn’t seem like something they can’t figure out. I think it’s my particular sales guy. I’m pretty, whatever, about it. I don’t need a car, I just want something different. If I get tired of waiting I’ll look for something else, but that’s doubtful. I hate car shopping with a passion. 🤣

I was notified by the dealer this morning that I was picked up! My config is not in failcat yet. Est delivery 4/25/22 (!!!) although he said they have been delayed by about a week from original quoted delivery date sometimes. I'm cautiously optimistic!! :)

Congrats!! We are about a month behind you by order date, but for an SX. will be interesting to see how that shakes out in terms of our delivery date.

Wonderful news! Hope it gets here faster than they think!

Now that it's picked up in KFOs, it could be a few weeks or months before production on it begins. Mine was 2 months between being picked up and the start of production. The day the car is "born" (the day they actually begin building it and create a VIN number) is usually when it shows up on Failcat. So don't torture yourself if it isn't in failcat right away. Congrats tho! I remember how excited I was when I got the call. It's just around the corner!

I am in the Raleigh area too and ordered from Hendrick. I ordered on 12/30/21 and was given a timeframe of 6 months. I haven't checked in with them at all, but hearing that they told you it was going to take longer isn't good news for me since I ordered well after you.

I ordered Black/Gray Napa SXP Nightfall and they seem to be pretty rare from what I have seen in Failcat.

Hope your wait isn't as long as they anticipate!

I ordered a Black/Black SXP Nightfall from Hendrick on 12/13 so we're in the same boat! I'll keep you posted if I hear anything before you do. We were told June as well, but now it's starting to seem like that isn't likely.

I hope we both get picked up before they think we will! I was hoping to get picked up in May for a June delivery. Trying to find the bright side and figure it's more time to save money until it comes in. :)

VIN generated and posted in failcat yesterday! Now Im starting to believe it! Cool to see exciting our window sticker! Now I may allow myself to start accessory shopping. Will dig through the forum for recommendations but definitely want some all-weather mats! Woo hoo!

Glad to here you're had movement to getting your order. We ordered at Hendrick in Cary first of Nov, about a month after you. We ordered a SX ES. We got kayaks at Christmas and just ordered a Ridgeline so we don't have to lift kayaks on roof. Not sure if we'll buy or pass on the Telluride when it arrives, but we'll at least get a test drive. If you're selling your CX-5 let me know as we might be looking for a car for our daughter.

When you ordered from Hendrick Kia did they quote your service package charge? I’m closer to Charlotte and called Hendrick Kia of Concord. They did say they would sell me a vehicle at MSRP. But I asked about any extra fees they mentioned there was a mandatory service package at $3000+. I have read on this forum people recommending Hendrick Kia of Cary because they sell at MSRP. But when in looked them up, Google reviews say they charge the same service package. Is this mandatory in Cary or could I decline this charge?

When I ordered, there was some mention of an optional prepaid oil change package I think. I don’t recall it being mandatory. Not sure what will happen at delivery.

I ordered in November 2021 and explicitly confirmed the final price being MSRP + tax/title/doc fee. Still haven’t taken delivery so they could always tack something on if they wanted to be awful about it 🥴

There was a $300 oil change package included in our quote when we had our agent build and price our Telly, but he said we could remove it if we wanted - it was optional. This was back in October. We’ll obviously see what the deal is in a few weeks. He did tell us they’d honor the MSRP at the time we ordered - and my window sticker that just generated does reflect that same price from back in October.

Agent did tell us back in February that the dealership was now tacking on $5k in “add ons” to any inventory cars (aka ordered cars that people backed out of). This came up as we were having regrets that we didn’t order nightfall package and so we had asked us to keep us in mind if anybody backed out of an order and he said sure…but that it would have the $5k enhancement package added to it. Nothing about a $3k mandatory service package when we spoke in February. He’s been pretty frank and up front with us so far throughout this process.

I’m not sure what current ordering process is, sorry!

I've heard from the sales rep that for all orders booked in 2022 they add an additional service package valued at around $3000. Not sure what it includes. We ordered ours in Oct 21 but I'm still expecting the usual pushy sales tactics during delivery.

MSRP + $2995 for orders and in stock vehicles going forward now. Includes Lojack, all weather floor mats, window tint, door edge guard and nitrogen filled tires. Just call em up and they'll tell you. Was quoted up to a 10 month lead time now so probably a 2023 you'd get. GL

We have an expected delivery date around mid next week, so I guess it would be a 2022.
When we ordered it last year they added oil change plan, carpet floor mats & trunk liner extra, but they might try selling these too, as I dont plan on financing with them.

Yea not sure on what they're doing for existing orders being delivered now. I understand they enacted this new "package" charge for all new vehicle orders, or instock, going back almost two months now.

Hopefully they honor the price and package you were quoted back when you ordered. IMO a paid deposit at time of order should freeze any and all upcharges/changes but what do I know. I only have basic ethics and morals. Ha

Ethics & car dealerships are a mismatch even when used in a sentence together.
I checked with them again last week when they called to confirm the delivery date. Paying a deposit did not prevent them from increasing the msrp by $600 before delivery - Kia increased the price & they can’t do anything about it, They know very well that they can always use the “we’ll be happy to refund your deposit” tagline & get away with it every time.
They might try tacking on the $3k package for me too, I wouldn’t put it past them.
The delivery day is going to be one long day.
