One thing I don’t understand about this process is that the number in line doesn’t appear to be like a number in a deli line system. For example, if you are #20 in line at a dealer but there are 5 people in front of you that want the same trim and color/interior combo that isn’t the most popular to make are you really #20? Since Kia only makes so many of each trim and color per month are they going to keep sending the same dealer allocations to fill orders that are identical? Compare that to being #30 in line for a more common color that Kia makes and there only being 1-2 in front of you wanting the same combo. Won’t the person who is #30 have a higher chance of getting picked up before the #20? It’s like going to the deli and everyone in front of you wants turkey and you are hoping there is enough left before the deli person has to go in the back or they tell you they are out for the week. Or like going to buy toilet paper during a pandemic and only wanting to buy 3 ply. Is there something else I’m not seeing? I know we are in a supply and demand curve at a macro economic level but unless Kia took custom orders even without pandemic production shortages and microchip supply chain issues, at some level in this ordering system supply is influencing the demand at the Telluride selection choices always because there may be people who only want one color and if they can’t get it they won’t want to wait forever if they need a vehicle. Knowing what number in line you are along with how many in front of you with the similar request is probably the most telling.
The dealers should definitely make it clear that there are multiple lines and they don’t move at the same speed.
I’ve tried to find out how many SX-P are in front of me and the sales guy says he doesn’t have that data. Seriously. How hard is it to build an excel sheet with a pivot table?
I’d prefer to have a realistic view of my wait instead of the number of total orders because that really doesn’t tell me anything. I know they only get a limited number of SX allocations and the prestige adds more chips to the car. I figured I’d have a long wait and the 6 months they quoted was best case.
