INCOMING TELLURIDE UPDATE AS OF 5/7

Why I hate buying cars. Im supposed to pick one up tomorrow for my wife. Already have a "guaranteed gentleman's agreement" w the dealership. Ive warned the Mrs. that there's probably a 50/50 chance I come home w out a car, because I'm not playing the bait and switch game. Finges crossed.
How’d it go today?

His statement, "And these are selling before they get here!" says it all. Because it's a hot item let's take advantage of people and take them for all we can because if they don't bite....someone else will. Wonder what other "protection" items they add on when you get to the dealership....vin etching, pin stripes, nitrogen, flashing third brake light? Actually I'm pretty sure they add that last one.
they add the vin etching because a dealership here said they do.

I was told $700 to tint the windows by one dealership. I told them I could take it somewhere on my own and pay $130 for limo tint, but their tint was "mandatory" at that dealership. They could shave off a little of the 3k MSRP markup, but the tint (which hadn't been applied yet) was non-negotiable.

I get it.....supply and demand. Im even ok if a dealership asks more over MSRP than Im willing to pay. All I ask out of a dealership is to be straight up from the get-go. I'll tell you what I'm willing to pay, and you tell me what the final out-the-door price is going to be. That way nobody's time is wasted. I wasted 2 hours of my time and a salesman's time last week simply because he didn't take me at my word from the very beginning that I wasn't paying $1 over my stated budget (which he promised he could do on the phone, during the test drive, and up until he had to "finalize" it w his manager).

I know there are dealerships that do this well...why there's a good dealer list here. Unfortunately, I've dealt w several others before I found that list.
Where is the good dealership list posted, because so far haven't found one yet. When I stated I would NOT pay any ADM their attitude towards me suddenly changed.

If you are spending that much your going to want to protect it! And these are selling before they get here!
That's what insurance and 10 year warranty are for.

The dealer in this thread is in the Minneapolis/St Paul area. There are other options in the area that sell at MSRP with no mandatory add-ons and refundable deposits on orders. Good dealers and reps certainly do exist. Definitely pays to do some research and comparison shopping.

I think the thing I was so amazed about as I was on my search, before just biting the bullet and ordering, was just how casual and cavalier dealers were about saying the Tellurides have a $12k "Market Adjustment".....

As if it was just this normal regular thing that we all should just bend over and take without resistance. I mean...That's almost another used Kia vehicle added on to the price...

Unbelievable...

Then if I did manage to get one to say they would sell at MSRP when they sent me the Sales Order it would have dumb "packages" on it that were "standard" which were adding up to the "Market Adjustment" elsewhere. I guess in that area "Market Adjustment" was too hard to sell, but "Standard Packages" people just swallowed easier.....But not this guy. Honestly, it's not even a money thing. If my wife wanted something else more expensive I'd go get her whatever she wanted....Within reason of course. I'm not buying G Wagons over here....

But it's just about principal for me...Even if I am a lone consumer in a sea of others who are lined up to over pay and experience that instant gratification. I'm still going to sleep better at night and feel good about my choice about not feeding into that ridiculousness. To each their own though...No judgement.

Hey, I'm with you and searched until I found msrp. You aren't alone in the battle!

Ditto! This is a great car for 50k but if your start paying 60 or more, it starts to get outclassed pretty quickly.

I'm at the beginning of my 6-8 month wait, but that just makes it that much more exciting when I finally get it!

I just reported the “bait and switch” salesman. He said no markup, but clearly there is since he’s forcing a “protection package.” Very unethical.

AMEN & Amen to everything y'all have said here! I started looking at these bad boys DURING the 2020 shut down, like seriously...over a year ago. Patiently watching Manheim & OVE Auction Run Lists, Pre & Post-sale reports--waiting on first 1st owner to take that initial depreciation lick...never happened. The 2020 Telly's (w/20-30k miles) at Auction right now are pulling MORE than MSRP for brand new 2021's! I mean, who does that?!? It's exactly what y'all were sayin' about this Burger King, have it: "Your way, Right Away" generation--(thanks a lot: Carvana/Carmax/Vroom).

This has been absolutely insane--wholesale prices (on ALL the suv's I've considered) have jumped almost 30%--in 2021 alone, essentially pricing me OUT of the "gently used" market, & BACK into looking at new ones. I'm sooo glad I've discovered this amazing forum--as you folks are genuinely passionate about helping other like-minded people find that--"perfect vehicle of their dreams". You guys rock.

I haven't found anyone to order mine from yet, but I WILL--til then, I'll be chillin down here in Mississippi--refusing to be screwed over with their ridiculous price gouging antics!! I'm wishing each of you all the very BEST with your orders (jealous, but still super stoked for y'all)! Thanks for keeping these dealers & salesmen honest!

I am just asking to ask...

How can people be upset about Dealers selling over MSRP when they are selling used at auction(which is 100% accurate) over MSRP..

Can't "have your cake and eat it also".

If you can find at MSRP great.. I'm not saying that's not the way to go. But for those paying markups I wouldn't consider the dealership gouging. Especially since this is happening across the board currently with all Manufactures. Massive shortage is new cars in every brand... Used car market is insane which is great for everyone's trade values.

I get 10-15k over... but there has to be some give on current storm that the industry is in...

Just my 2 cents..

I say all this respectfully.. look at it from a Owner Standpoint. If they are selling over MSRP used at Auction.. Why would they want to sell New at MSRP.. (Ultimately it is the owner making the price.. not salespeople)

I think it's within reason for dealers to charge what they can get for a Telluride. They want to make money for the same reasons we want to save money. Plus with lower inventory they have to have a higher margin. If they had twice as many Telluride's available to sell they could afford to have half the profit margin.

For me it's the bait and switch tactics that are unacceptable. When a dealer or sales person advertises MSRP but then tacks on other costs/fees during the purchase of the car.

As far as I can tell, the dealership @aaroneast works at is being upfront about the cost of the car on their website. But @aaroneast is advertising MSRP when he posts incoming tellurides on here. If he had integrity he would post the actual price they are selling for with the "protection package" included.

Ya I agree there.. just be upfront and not put " !!! " at the end of every sentence

I think dealer has got to pay bills, if they are getting charged over msrp, they can’t sell for less.

on ordered vehicles from Kia directly….well maybe over charge some, but if I was a dealer I’d be giving my repeat buyers msrp.

I got msrp and this was at the same dealer. I will drive the extra 2 hours every time for someone who shoots me straight…good or bad.0E128C3A-4810-4981-B642-6434FF62F146.jpeg
29k!!! Come on! And I bet it’s sold lol

I agree 100% with this reasoning. Dealers have a right to set their own selling prices, just as consumers have the right to pay or not pay.

While calling around to locate inventory, there were a few dealerships that wouldn’t answer the question “are you selling at MSRP?” They would prefer to hit you with a ‘market adjustment’ or mandatory $3k ‘protection package’ once you were in the door, as opposed to disclosing this on the phone or website.

Just wondering where in PA you are. I'd be thrilled if my order gets picked up in two months!

I’m near King of Prussia/Valley Forge. My car was ordered through Murray Kia in Conshohocken.
The other good dealer is Sussman Kia in Roslyn/Jenkintown, also selling at MSRP. They actually had an SX on the lot a few weeks ago, also at MSRP. It the only SX available in 1.5 years, but it was Dark Moss w/Butterscotch interior. I just couldn’t do it.

We'll see if my wait time will be as short as yours, I too am working with Roger. Congrats on the imminent arrival!

Thanks, 3 months hasn’t been too bad, but I am getting restless now that it’s getting close. At least you will be getting a 2022. Hopefully the new model will offer a nice upgrade or two.
