If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I trust this dealer - he was actually given praise on this forum. Always answered my phone calls, etc. I want to make this transaction happen with him.

He told me these are my options:
1. Grab an inbound SX-P he has coming in June 27th. It's Dark Moss with Black interior - he would take a $500 deposit and It would be mine; MSRP: $48,470 before taxes, fees, etc. That would put me over 50k in NJ
2. Put in an order for a 2020 SX-P per my specs (Dark Moss with Dune Brown interior) with the thought that this would be a "placeholder" and eventually Kia will cancel this and turn it into a 2021 order.
3. Just flat out wait until the 2021's show up in KFOS.

I'm in no rush to get the vehicle immediately. I am willing to wait 5-7 months to get my Telluride. I want the least amount of headache/frustration in my ultimate choice.

Just want to poll you guys out there, what is my best option, what is my worst out of the above, etc.

Thanks!

Just wait if the inbound vehicle isn't what you want, although its a fair deal. And I'm not sure option 2 is even an option at this point. You'd be giving the dealer a deposit to get in line at their dealership. They'd just enter your vehicle specs when KIA "opens the books" for the 2021 ordering/pricing.
I'd find out how many paid deposits they still have in front of you and how many allocations they're getting each month. That'll give you a better time line for eta at that dealership. GL

I’d personally put down the deposit, making sure that it’s fully refundable for any reason, for a 2020, knowing that it will be cancelled and switched to a 2021. My guess is, the longer you wait to put your name down, the longer it will take to get your Telly, some people on here have waited at least 8 months. I know you’re not in a rush, but if you were ready to put a deposit down anyway before you walked in originally, I’d go ahead and do it for peace of mind. A lot easier in my opinion than waiting for one to magically show up on a lot that’s not claimed already.

Agreed. If you aren't in a rush - get your name on a list and get in line. Once the economy gets back to normal - car buying will be back at full steam and the Telluride will be back to being the hardest to buy SUV on the planet....oh wait...that never changed....always has been. LOL. I have been waiting since January 15th and still don't have a production date.

In March - my dealer @StephenCantrelle (who has been great) called to tell me that the 2020 order books had been closed and that I would be moved to a 2021 as soon as KFOS opened up. I am at the top of the list for an SXP at his dealership and will be picked up as soon as KFOS starts again. Hopefully KFOS opens on 6/15 for the Telluride.

ah Got it.

So to understand this clear - if I give this dealer a $500 deposit he isn't going to "order" anything in KFOS until it opens; maybe 6/15/20?

It will depend on how many are in line in front of you. If you want an SX-P and they have 10 orders already in line and they get 2 allocations per month, you are looking at 5+ months until you are actually ordered in KFOS

well that will be my next question to him - thank you all for the help. Let's hope if he has inbound SX-Ps that aren't even taken that he doesn't have a long queue in front of me...

If the 2020 inbound unit you mentioned isn't sold and you want it, then you can reserve it with the $500 deposit (that's what dealer is saying). If it's being delivered in June, then it was likely ordered in February or March via KFOS. The point is that if you want a 2021, then all the other rules and wait apply as discussed above.

The dealer is also requesting, I believe, a $500 Refundable deposit to get in line for a 2021. Assuming that is normal.

Yes - my dealer requested a refundable $500 deposit to get in line for an SXP back in1/15/20.

Finally went to my local Kia to test drive just the S model for the sake of it...I was pleasantly surprised.

Little rattle in my seat but I believe that could have been some knucklehead test driving it and screwing up with the wheel balance. Anyone else notice this issue? Poor dealers car had 128 miles on it and you could tell people were beating it up...15.1 mpg; poor thing.

Just ordered a "2021" aka put my name on the list for Dark Moss with Dune Brown interior...dealer said more than likely I'll get it in ~ Sept. He's selling them at MSRP which I can appreciate.

Wait, with the 2021 updates can I get my first choice Gravity Grey with Dune Brown by any chance?

Did you get a price quote? Curious to see what the bump from 20 to 21 looks like. It might be elsewhere on this forum but I have not seen the $$$ yet.

Yes. Be sure it is input correctly into KFOS when it can be ordered.

He's a a fairly high volume dealer and was almost certain it will only go up a few hundred bucks. He stated that Kia would be insane if the MSRP's on the SX-P's were to bleed over 50k because the market may react negatively.

I think that's reasonable. But, I do think the Black Edition could top $50k for MSRP+delivery. That would be in line with Pilot black Edition. Of course Kia may decide to undercut...

Agreed - Depending how costly the rims are on the blackout I can 100% see it going over 50k.
