• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Day 2 of owning the truck and never owned a vehicle with a keyless key fob before. The truck was locked and parked in my driveway and I used the app to turn the car on while I was in my house. Without confirming where the key fob was, I got into the truck and drove to my destination, turned the truck off. went inside for a minute to grab a coffee, came back out and was not able to re-start the truck. The app could lock/unlock the truck but no longer start it. I looked in my purse, truck, and coat pockets and no key fob located. I can only think of 2 scenarios...(1) I left the car unlocked with the keyfob inside and someone stole the key fob while I was getting my coffee (which took 2 minutes so I doubt it) or (2) the key fob was in my house when I used the app to start the truck and it's still in my house somewhere. Is that 2nd option possible, or would the key fob need to be in my posession when I drove away from my house? Is there any other possible scenario? Is there any way to locate the key (I think the answer is no). ANy ideas would be appreciated. Thank you!

In the house is my guess

You would have needed to have the fob on you when you started the process of leaving home, because there would have been no other way to a) unlock the car and b) have it take over from remote start mode to “on” mode.

If the FOB was close enough to the vehicle but left in the house after UVO start; it’s possible to get in, start button and drive off. Once the vehicle was turned off; it would look for the key and not find it

Our Audi will tell us we don't have the key right in the cluster but only just got our telluride so not sure what it does in that situation.

The only way the fob would be detected inside the vehicle (required to start the car or take over remote start) is if it was actually inside the vehicle or incredibly close. The only way I'm able to get it to recognize the fob when it is outside the car is if you set the fob at the base of the hood or on the sunroof. Anywhere else and it will say "not detected." It is improbable that a fob sitting inside a house would start the car.

If you did start the car with the key detected and then the key was removed (e.g., fell off the roof as you drove away), it would flash in your instrument cluster to tell you "key not detected."

Did you ever locate the lost fob? Unless it was 5 feet from the car when you got in and drove away, it is unlikely you can put it into gear without it being very close by. Also, it would have had to been nearby to unlock the car from the exterior handle after remote starting unless you did that with your phone as well. Maybe it fell in the grass nearby your parking spot at home?

If you did have it in the car when you went to get coffee, it is a good chance it is still somewhere in the car. However, if the key is not sensed right near the driver seat or near the push to start button, you cannot start the car.

So if you can’t find it around your parking spot at home, there is a good chance it is tossed somewhere in your car. Maybe under one of the seats or trunk area if you loaded something back there.

If it was tossed someone inside the truck, it should have restarted when I returned to the truck. So far the only explanation that seems possible it that I dropped it in the coffee shop or while walking inside (50 feet), but called them and they don't have it. So frustrating...thanks everyone for the input. I will let you know if the mystery ever gets solved. lol

This is not true. If you don’t believe me, try leaving your second remote fob in the back seat or trunk the next time you go to start your car with the push to start button. I bet it won’t start unless you have the key with you in the driver’s seat.

If you think you lost it on the walk to the coffee ahop, that is plausible as well.

I tested earlier and if you didn't have your key the cluster warns you constantly so you must have had it. Remote start cuts off if you have not got the key on you in the front of the car. You def had the key on you when you left and must have dropped it when returning back to the car if it's not sensing it. Have you checked down the sides of the seat. Might be far enough away from sensors to make it think it's not in the car.

I placed the key in the far back of the truck and it started fine, so it can't be lost in the truck.

You are right, it is still possible to start the car with the fob in the trunk when I just tried it.

I did have some experiences where I tried to step on the brake pedal and start the car while standing outside the drivers door and it wouldn’t let me.
