Asking for a friend that just put a deposit down on a GWP EX w/Prem Package that is set to be delivered on December 29th....

Edit: after examining the numbers again I wonder if it is because Kia is ramping up the Nightfall production.

There have been lots of daily and weekly fluctuation in trim production this year. But I do wonder if some of the change is more and more buyers wising up to the fact that the Base SX is a better deal than an EX Premium. A small jump up in price but a huge jump up in content. That and SX production seems to have finally caught up with demand - so wait times on those are improving. I suspect lots of buyers opted for an EX Premium over the SX because you could get one quicker. But who knows.

Curious how someone would be aware of a delivery date that far out? What are the mechanics of having an ETA like that?

Once KFOS accepts your order from the dealer, it generates an ETA. The dealer should give that to you as soon as they get it. The person mentioned in the post might have put a deposit for a vehicle already allocated to the dealer or ordered by another person who backed out.

@RyanATX we didn't order this EX, it was already allocated to the dealer. We just put a deposit down to hold it. Basically the dealer is set to receive this unit whether or not I order it.

@MarcinTexas those are all good points. That makes sense to me.

Also, @RyanATX for what it’s worth my contact at the dealer I ordered at (Kia Moritz Hurst) said that he has had Tellurides arrive up to a month earlier than the ETA provided by Kia. That is good news for those of us who are waiting on the car to be built, shipped, and delivered.

Ordered 11/15/2019 took delivery 10/26/2020. I was suppose to get it 11/10.

This will be interesting to watch. I’ll be checking it out before I decide which to choose. But I know after test driving the 2020 Sorento recently Im still likely to prefer the larger Telluride. That said, the new Sorento has some very nice features. The X-line trim is the only one I’ll even consider, and it’s still only a 4 cylinder, Turbo, and I’m not a fan. Lots of people shaking theirs heads over Kia’s decision to drop the V6.

I am trying to scrape some of the VINs for the 2021 Sorento and so far I have not been successfull. Me too I am interested to find out how many VINs get produces per day compare to the Telluride.

To help me out, if someone has a real VIN for the 2021 Sorento built in Georgia this will help me a lot. I essentially need to know what is the restraint system code (7th digit in the VIN) and also what serial number they started with (for the Telluride they started at serial number 1000).

Doubtful, and if it does, wouldn't be by much.

The production capacity at West Point is around 330k/yr running 3 shifts.

Figure 110k allocated to the Telluride and 120k or so to the Sorento; maybe even higher if demand for the K5 doesn't warrant 100k/yr of production.

^ Yes, which is why stated that production for the Sorento and Telluride may rise if demand for the K5 doesn't warrant 100k/yr of production.

And even if there is such demand for the K5, but demand continues to outpace supply for the Telluride and (hopefully) Sorento, then it would be smart of KMMG to shift production anyway to the higher margin crossovers, esp. the Telluride.

Kia can always start manufacturing K5s for the US market in Korea if the demand is there.
