• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Currently my car has about 600 miles on it. I'm planning on driving across the country, putting on perhaps 3000 miles. I know that I'm supposed to get a scheduled maintenance at 1500 miles. What would y'all suggest?

I didn't get my first one until about 4500. Picked up in Indiana, drove to CA, Covid hit a week later, drove to MT for the "it'll be over in 2 weeks" and got the oil changed there. Wasn't an issue.

I'm picking mine up next week and driving 2500 miles. Definitely not stopping and getting an oil change.

I didn't see in the manual where your first maintenance is due at 1500 miles but 7500 miles unless heavy duty usage.

I'm old school...I would change the oil before the trip just to make sure I got the microscopic pieces of metal out after the first 600 miles. Then let it run until the first scheduled maintenance. I have always changed the oil in my cars between 500 & 1000 miles off the lot.

If I were going to do that, would it be a good idea to go to a Kia dealership? Would it be covered, or not yet because I am still under 1.5k miles?

Not sure what you mean by "covered"? Did you pay a pre-paid maintenance from the dealership?

If you are not a DIY'er...then yes, you can certainly have your dealership do the maintenance on it. Bottom line is to just follow the recommended services (normal vs severe) listed on your owners manual.

I was reading some other mechanic blogs online and all seem to be on the same page. Seems like thats old school mentality. Changing your oil for these new cars isn't necessary at 500-1000k miles anymore. Some manufacturers actually have "break in oil" thats a special formula and shouldn't be changed until the scheduled manufacturers suggestion. I always used to change my new car oil at 500. However now I see no added benefits.
