• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... New from WeatherTech - Telluride Mud Flaps for 2020 and 2021

Tires:
Winter Tires - BRI BLIZZAK DMV2

Blacked Out Exhaust:
Painted the exhaust tips myself with 2000 degree gloss black engine spray paint. I have no idea why Kia created a "Nightfall" version and left the chrome exhaust ????????
Question before i start with the exhaust paint...did you prime or prep the exhaust? I tries it out on the under side if muffler for the full effect and i got some bubbling and dripping. Not worried because nit visible and only first coat, but dont want that on the exhaust tips. TIA

Sand the surface to rough it up. Apply a primer and let dry. Then spray on 2 or 3 coats of gloss black (allow 2 hours of drying time between coats or whatever the instructions state).

Thoughts on a carbon fiber wrap vs paint on the exhaust. Less work and says will hold up to heat, plus pretty hard to fck up beyond repair.

Are you applying by brush or spray? Was the exhaust muffler hot?
Spray and cool. Not worried about the muffler area, just wanted to cover the silver for better rear/underside appearance. Looks good from distance, and no silver showing thru bumper.

I did the same.

Sorry, I'm not a paint expert so I really can't explain why it bubbled on you. I may have had a cleaner surface as I did it the next day after picking up my vehicle.

I've painted exhaust tips and the misconception is that they actually get hot. If you want to use a high heat paint, sure but most any rattle can will do. Just need a quick cleaning with a scotch brite pad, some degreasing with some mineral spirits and a couple of coats. You might was to drop the tips down by taking them off the hangers which may take you a minute or two but give you better access to paint and mask.

Thinking i might try 2 colors- black with a trim around the opening. Have some orange and green 3M carbon fiber (I am a Uof Miami fan) I might try. If comes off I'll still have the black.

Got my WT muds on and just finished painting my exhaust tips... WOW what a difference. Thanks for the idea. Now I am considering adding some color to the insides of the tips (orange on the left, green on the right- I'm a U of Miami alumn and fan) to give it some pop. If I don't like I can recover in black.20210318_161503.webp20210318_161238_HDR.webp20210318_161256.webp

Nice!! You did a awesome job on the exhaust tips. What kind of spray did you use?gloss? Did you lower the exhaust to spray?

Ya I wanted to do mine right away too but I have borla exhaust due next week so I’m not gonna do the stock. I’ll do the borla before I install it since it’ll be easier out of the box to do.

High gloss engine paint. Didn't drop it just taped off and draped the rear end.

Installed mine.
Rear was more difficult with lack of access.
I mind a bit that the rear ones don't come flush to the body unlike the front ones. Has the protrusion at the top.

I am almost tempted to order these just to put them on for the winter months. I know I would be too lazy to take them off and the look will grow on me I suppose.
Honestly, I think these are just as valuable in the Chicago suburbs in the summer when all the summer road construction in going on. Heavily salted in the winter and Peppered with gravel in the summer. Our rides get well Seasoned up here.

What an improvement! What primer/paint dis you use, and is it holding up?

Anyone had any experiences with lower ground clearance witht he larger WeatherTech flaps?...Are they more likely to be damaged when going through a deep rut?

We haven't been through any deep ruts but I don't think it should be a problem.
