New Telluride vs Used Audi Q7 ????

Is this particular vehicle worth this BS? Is any?

Sorry again for your experience. There are MANY unscrupulous Kia dealers, unfortunately. There are a few with good ethics, but most of those are all have sold orders they are fulfilling. I wrote earlier that the sales guys will say anything to get you in - if you decide to find an unsold vehicle, then expect to pay above MSRP and don't go in without a contract. It's pointless.

The answer to your question is certainly "NO". It's a great vehicle, but there are many great vehicles, and if you can wait for your order to arrive, you'll enjoy it. If you can't wait, or decide not to wait any longer, then I'd just go find a different vehicle rather than call zillions of dealerships. California has received only 5055 Tellurides - behind FL (5531) and TX (5371) as of 12/11. Yet, CA has nearly twice the population of Florida. It will take a long time for the inventory situation to normalize.

BTW, five CA dealers are in the top 10 for allocations:

(1) Kia of Carson
(2) Kia of Cerritos
(3) Kia of Downtown LA
(7) Car Pros of Glendale
(10) Kia of Irvine
(33) Garden Grove Kia

Winn Kia are small dealerships.

The big dealerships above will be hard if not impossible to deal with, but they get the most allocations month after month. So, working with them might help you find a vehicle ... but it will likely be a very unpleasant experience as forum reviews for most of these dealerships aren't good.

It's tough right now... sorry again.

Great feedback. Waiting costs me nothing, compromising costs me 10K

Yeah, we waited it out - glad I did - but gave up on finding an in-stock unit back in May. It was difficult then, now got to be so much harder. I figured if my order never showed up, then I'd just find something else for a few years.

Since I have nothing but time...while I wait for my mystical Telluride I am test-driving the Volvo XC90. Don't know much about them but they are in stock and no dealer is above MSRP,

That's a fine vehicle.

Hey there great max owners I've been searching the internet for couple of days to find a good 2din replacement for the oem unit that supports android auto (I have the navigation and bose one)

@Telluride Forum , @Husker Soze please delete above post. This user doesn't appear legitimate - posted an earlier cryptic message about a Kia Soul. Bad spelling and non-sensical phrasing. Website listed above could be a spam site - doesn't make sense with post.

Great to hear there are so many other people in the same boat as me (Used Q7 vs Telluride).

Made a deal with a Kia dealer just outside of Washington DC. Flew from Orlando to DC with an agreed to $3,000 over MSRP. Upon landing in DC, dealer sold it out under me, to someone else for more money. Through exhaustive searching, I found one in Florida again I paid $3,000 over MSRP. I use Consumer Reports as well as Truecar, I always pride myself with getting really great deals and great financing, I do my homework. To get my Telluride SX with prestige package, I put my hands up, surrendered and paid the $3,000 desler vig, yes I'm glad I did I love the Telluride.

I can't believe you actually admitted to paying over sticker for the Kia. Yikes

i guess asking this in this forum will be inherently biased but this is my conundrum right now...trying to decide between a low mileage (under 15k) 18 q7 prestige under $45k or a new sxp for $48k and wait months. q7 msrp was around $70k . test drove a s trim with awd and it felt anemic compared to the q7 3.0. felt less torquey than even the 11 buick enclave i own. the virtual cockpit is amazing on the q7 and wish the sx had one like the palisade. maybe for 2021. but cost of ownership scares me with the audi.

back in 2017 i was trying to decide between a new 17 fully loaded sonata limited vs a 15 genesis+tech and went with the genesis for cheaper. looking back, so glad i went with a genesis...just so much more car than a sonata (power, luxury, looks). would this be similar comparison between an audi q7 prestige vs telluride sx-p?

Well I was in the same boat 6 months back and decided to go with the Q7; couldn’t have made a better choice. Coming from MDX I wanted to drive something nicer and more prestigious. Everytime I hit that gas I have no remorse. Also this generation of Q7 is a lot more reliable than the previous ones.
You can’t go wrong with the telluride but life’s too short not to be driving the car you like (Q7) haha kid kid..

Well the SX-P shouldn’t feel more powerful than the S. If you really want that performance, get the Q7. But it will not have the all-around versatility and perhaps the reliability of the Kia.

At that price, I’d buy the Q7 if it is Certified.

@sidewinder You’ll get tired of the virtual cockpit. I had it all the time when I was driving loaners because my CPO A6 was always in the shop for water leaking into the cabin. Especially if you use Waze, you can only view built-in nav on the cockpit. Only thing I ended up using it for was to view media album art.

In terms of driving dynamics, are you the type who likes to floor the gas pedal at every green light or on ramp? Are you consistently on backroads with windy turns? Otherwise you are not going to notice in bumper to bumper traffic and city roads. I once had a Camaro loaner and thought I was gonna speed race my way to work, but all I got was a loud engine and 8 mpg commute.

Lastly, do you like the new car smell? Brand new leather seats that have not been worn in with another persons butt imprint? Vents that don’t blow out stink air from the previous owner or an offensive air freshener bomb odor? If you plan to use the third row often, it is also considerably smaller than the Telluride.

I won’t lie, the Q7 is a beauty with quality build materials. But all reasons above are why I chose to go with the Telluride versus another used Audi/BMW/Benz.

Hope that helps.

i take it u went with the 3.0t? what year and which trim did u go with? that supercharged engine compared to telluride huge difference in terms of max torque which in q7 comes in at much lower rpm. i actually also considered the 18 mdx but seems they still havne't gotten the tranny issues ironed out. (bought the first 2001 model and got rid of it due to bad tranny at under 60k miles)

Well I am in canada and I bought 2017 technik s-line fully loaded with all possible options, totally spoiled haha. Our MDX was a 2016 not even a four wheel drive (we lived down south in Georgia), never liked it but it was my wife’s car and she loved it.

yeah it maybe a gimmick but i would almost consider full digital dash a requirements if i'm going to spend nearly $50k on a vehicle these days. only reason telluride did not put one in the sx was so they can call it an "upgrade" in the next model year. i would expect it on 2021 since even the new sorento has it. i don't normally do jack rabbit starts and in fact like to hypermile from time to time ;) but its nice to know such power on the q7 is available in case i have to mash the pedal. any 'new' car will be a 'used' one as soon as u drive it off the lot hehe. i could live with the butt print any day since they did took the initial hit on depreciation for me ;) just comparing a kia to an audi in and of itself tells how far kia has come from the days of sephia.

The Audi will continue to depreciate severely - just take a look at prices for 2015 Q7s. I think if you need a vehicle right away, and it fits your space needs and preferred driving dynamics, then get the Q7. Negotiate heavily on the price - and remember that maintenance costs will be substantially higher - but if it's certified you'll limit that surprise. Routine maintenance will be substantially higher too.

Note that in my opinion, the AWD Telluride performs very well off the line in Sport Mode. It feels like it has more get up and go in that mode than in Comfort or Eco. I just drive in Smart mode most of the time, and gave up caring about super performance years ago, as I didn't enjoy racing my expensive-to-maintain BMW from stoplight to stoplight over Houston's crumbling streets. That car was happiest when traveling above 90 MPH... it hugged the road incredibly well and felt grounded. Unfortunately traveling that fast is not realistic.

Perhaps get the Audi now and evaluate how the SX-P evolves for your preferences. It also depends on how you drive and how long you want to keep the vehicle - we expect that our Telluride will be with us for at least 11-12 years, as we don't put on many miles. I have no desire to own a 12 year old Audi.

BTW, don't bother with the MDX.

My CPO A6 (only 3 years old at the time) was worth 25% value of what I bought at 4 years earlier when I traded it in. Only drove 6k miles per year on it. It was still in the same pristine condition as when I purchased cosmetic-wise. Common excuse all dealers had when justifying the price, “I can’t sell this on my lot because the model year is too old. It’s going to auction so I can’t make much on it.”

So yes, it is a steal when you compare used to new price, but when you trade it back in, expect to have the same principal applied to the car’s value.
