Non Nightfall SX Prestige Waiting Room

Yes - adds $495 to the build.
That's probably why they are pumping them out. Kia is trying to make Q4 look like there best Quarter ever on record by making these granular manufacturing moves. More NE. More Black Copper. All adds up on the balance sheet.

Nothing compared to @MarcinTexas and others man.

I almost bought an NE don't get me wrong. It was exactly your order. First one in NJ. Found it on failcat and I just took a deep breath and realized that wasn't what I truly wanted.

Just paying for it now with the waiting game.

Just doesnt make sense, like to be honest, there can't be THAT many people still waiting for a SXP non nightfall that have been waiting for 6+ months. I would imagine most people would have moved on. Why can't Kia just freaking make a batch and get them knocked out? Ridiculous.

You are probably right. Same with the massive EX Premium production. When you compare the price of an EX Premium to a base SX and then compare the differences in standard equipment for each trim - I suspect the EX Premium has a higher profit margin than a base SX. The ramp up of EX Premiums is no accident. Because if you are a buyer - the base SX makes a ton more sense for a relatively minor change in price over the course of a standard 5-year term:

That is what I keep thinking. Spend a day or two at the factory to clear these old orders out and then get back to pumping out NFP's. Considering how many people buying the Prestige are new to the brand...this is doing more harm than good by pushing these orders to the back of the line.

I agree with both of you - wouldn't take much for them to just get these done and out of the way.

Do you have your vehicle? If not - how long have you been waiting? Here's the issue:

Countless people waited this long last year and into this year for their vehicles because KIA wasn't building enough Tellurides....then right as they started ramping up production COVID happened. I think everyone knew that both of these things were either market driven or events out of their control. The important difference is that during that time - KIA was still building cars in the order they were received. Everyone was feeling the pain (within each trim group). Then this summer KIA decided to screw over SXP orders in favor of the new Nightfall Prestige. Even my dealer called me to tell me they had an allocated NFP coming in that was very similar to my build to see if I wanted to buy that one in-stead of what I had ordered. For money of course. As each month has gone by - they have lowered production of the SXP in favor of the NFP - to the point where they are now delivering NFP orders months ahead of orders that date back to Dec/Jan on SXP orders. No other group has experienced this except the SXP crowd. No one at KIA can give us the reason behind what is going on.

As more and more customers take delivery of their vehicles - there seems to be less and less sympathy for this unique group of buyers that nearly a year ago were buying the top trim Telluride now being told to kiss off. This situation the SXP buyers are experiencing is unlike anything else any buyer has experienced on the Telluride since launch.
Wasn't commenting on the wait, only really this portion:

let's be honest, how many of them really love the grill and wheels? How many saw a nightfall before ordering it?

Yes with everlasting silver and maybe GG it looks good but any other color...meh...

They realized it gets them to the front of the line and like everything else these days instant gratification outweighs patience.

But I was also just busting balls a bit. I am sympathetic to those of you who have been waiting all this time, which is why I read this thread. I don't know the inner-workings of Telluride production, and I'm not really sure why Kia didn't plan on larger production. Tough situation all around, and it doesn't make sense that orders submitted earlier this year, particularly ones in the 2020 queue, would get bumped. I'd be frustrated as well.

I can't answer for others, but I actually think that NF looks pretty dope, but I've always been a Jeep driver and like a bit more rugged look. I only got to drive an LX one time before placing my order, back in February before all hell broke loose. Inventory has been non-existent for test drives or to even just go look at, so I'm flying blind in a sense. This forum has made me feel better about placing an order for a car I've technically never seen.

I'm not trying to be a dick but even I was debating grabbing a NE to have my Telly sooner but then I realized that patience is a virtue.

Most people who order a NE will fall in love with it, I'm sure of it and congrats to them for getting an awesome vehicle!
I feel for you guys as my original SXP order was placed in October of 2019. When the Nightfall came out is was intrigued, but was under the impression that I couldn’t change my order anyways. Then I did see nightfall in person (in fact, the exact combo that I am getting) and loved it. With that and the rumors of SXP orders not even being taken into KFOS at the time (I don’t think this ended up being true) I asked my dealer if I could switch without starting over. I got lucky in that my new order was picked up in the next KFOS batch. I have no doubt that if all of those things didn’t happen I would be in the same boat as you, but I certainly didn’t settle for something that I don’t actually desire.

Yeah - I haven't even driven a Telluride! When we ordered with @StephenCantrelle none of the dealers in San Antonio would even let us test drive one unless we filled out a credit app with intention to buy with them. Yeah - folks like us that originally ordered 2020 models should have been prioritized (in my opinion) over 2021 builds.

Yeah - I wish I loved the Nightfall Edition. And many like you do. But my wife (will be her car) really doesn't like the wheels or grill or we would have switch as well.

The US free market principles will correct this issue for Kia if they don’t fix it first. All manufacturers that make a 3 row unibody SUV are hard at work developing a vehicle to take back lost market share. Ford can crank out 250k explorers a year no problem, as can Toyota, and others. The Koreans better get their stuff together quick. I like many of you are new to the brand, but not brand loyal as much as focused on the right product.

I agree with both of you - wouldn't take much for them to just get these done and out of the way.

And still help drive the overall average transaction price higher - which is a metric that KIA has (understandably) liked promoting. This vehicle has been huge for the brand and advertising increased ATP for a KIA product is impressive in the days of heavy incentives and reduced year over year MSRP from other brands (here's looking at you Ford Explorer)

Exactly what my review concluded and the main reason I ended up ordering the SX FWD. It's my wife's car and for runs back and fore to school and the grocery store, I don't need AWD so obviously then saved on the AWD and Prestige fee. The SX FWD is a hell of a car for $42K!

Here are the daily production rates for your trim. Looks like KIA had a gap in the SX FWD...but now seeing some rolling off the assembly line again. Yes - the SX is a tremendous deal.

Kia has been running a massive marketing campaign for Nightfall Tellurides during the NBA Playoffs.

I'm guessing this is a big reason why they are prioritizing the NF builds ahead of us.

Goes back to the theory that it is all about the $$$ and not honoring the original 2020 orders.

The people getting tired of us being frustrated can kiss my...

For the record, I wasn't even interested in the Telluride until the Nightfall. I love blacked-out appearance packages. Chrome to me is gross. Do I love the wheels? Nah. But I actually do love all the rest including the grill. I know you weren't speaking specifically about anyone, just in general. But, I do believe a lot of us actually love the Nightfall and are not just abusing Kia's faulty priority system. And I agree, Everlasting Silver in Nightfall is sexy AF :p

CFB now as well. First time seeing the commercial on Saturday since I don't really watch TV otherwise.

I actually prefer the Nightfall myself, but my wife doesn't. And this will be her car, so non-Nightfall it is.

Yeah - I totally get it. Many love it and more power to you! I would be thrilled to have my order filled faster than others. Not your fault at all! Actually - I have asked my dealer to swap out the badges on my SXP at the dealer for the Nightfall Badges. Love them.

Ahhh happy wife, happy life. I understand that one. Luckily mine loves the nightfall and it also will be hers, not mine.
