• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Oil Change??

but must be by enclosed transport when new.

No, not at all. They ship them the same as other car manufacturers.

No sense in spending extra money on an enclosed transport just to dump the cars on the lot where they'll sit exposed to the elements until someone buys them.

This also popped up on my screen around 850 miles. I was told that it was because of the settings, however; I went into the settings and it was set at 5000 miles so unsure of why this is happening. I just dismissed it but short answer is that you absolutely do not need an oil change as I called the dealership service department to confirm.
Maybe because it has being more than three months.

For what its worth, I got my SX with 362 kms (225 miles) on it because even though it was delivered on a trailer (saw the video of it arriving at the dealership) it had a few miles being driven from the drop off point and several test drives. The vehicle was in perfect shape when I took delivery so it was fine by me although a bit higher than you might normally expect.

As for changing oil at 1,000 km. I believe I read in the manual that you are supposed to keep the engine between 2k and 4k revs for the first 1,600 miles, which is not realistic since the transmission is programmed to keep the vehicle below 2k at most speeds so I am being watchful of that, and the first oil change is due at 6,000 km (3,725 miles). I can believe this since most engines go through a break-in period at the factory now. With my Cadillac, that was the case. Not sure about KIA but don't see why they would be different.

how often do you have to do an oil change on a telluride?

I have taken delivery on several vehicles that have been dealer traded. They seldom will put them on a flatbed. Generally speaking, the dealers are actually trading vehicles and often a check is also sent in one direction. I worked at a dealership for about a year and often, a retired guy is called in to drive the traded car to the other dealership, drop or pick up a check and then grab the other vehicle and drive it back. In some cases if there was not a trade they would send 2 old timers in a car, drop off a check, pick up the other car and both come back. This is generally the fastest instead of waiting on a transporter. When hauling on a flatbed, the driver and rig must all comply with DOT regulations. The warranty begins based on the miles at the time of delivery, so nothing is lost. Hell, I have test driven cars that have been on a lot for a while and had a few hundred miles on them.

The only way to be sure you get a vehicle with minimal miles on it is to special order it. Sorry, a bit off topic from the thread.

Regarding the oil change, does KIA request a break in oil change at 1000 miles? I know it is the old way, but I still change oil at 1000 miles on new vehicles, just to be sure any particulates from manufacturing are washed out. I then change oil at 5K, with full syn and rotate tires at each change.

I'm with you. I'm old school on changing the break-in oil at 1000 miles. A mechanic told me that there still be some debris and small metal particles in the engine from when it was manufactured, so he recommended changing the oil and filter to get the particles out. It may not be 100% necessary, but it won't hurt a thing to change it.

every 7500 miles. An oil change reminder just popped up when my miles hit 7500, but I already did mine at my dealership at 6K miles.

A month and half after getting my EX, I received a offer from Kia for an oil change and 10% off parts. With 1500 miles on the vehicle, I went to my Kia dealer to get an oil change. The service person questioned my offer and the need for an oil change. After a phone call to someone higher up the offer was honored, "never seen that before". I explained what is mentioned above, that new engines still produce metal shavings and particles which can hinder the flow of oil through the oil filter and do some minor damage to the interior of the engine. Now, I drive with a little more confidence that I have done everything possible to keep my vehicle performing as well as possible.

Most car manufactures do a engine burn in at the factory, they also include break in oil for the first set of miles. Follow the manual. Unless you are driving it like a rental mule, no reason to change the anything until 6 month OR 7,500 miles. If you are treating it horribly, then 3,500 OR 6 months.
