Only painting letters holds up to car washes ?

For all those who plastidipped or vinyl on their lettering, do you really hand wash your car all the time ? I now learned the hard way that plastidip does not last in car washes and vinyl supposedly is not ideal for car washes either. Means paint only? Help. Dying to black out the lettering.

I mentioned this in another thread but if you put enough coats and follow it up with enough clear coats.... It will last. mine has lasted a full year and I go to the car wash once per week.

I put about 6 - 7 coats on mine and I did the grill as well. Its been through at least 4 car washes since then and it is perfect. If you can use a touch free car wash they last forever....well not forever but a very long time. I did my friends Dodge Ram almost 3 years ago and his fist peeling is just starting to happen on the venting on he grill. I think that is a pretty good run, and we live in Minnesota where there are extreme condition changes. A little touch up and it will be just as good as new.

Hey thanks, appreciate it. I know my first mistake was a car wash within 48 hours but still didnt expect it to peel like it did. Presume the clear coat is also via dipyourcar.com ?

Thanks for the feedback. Maybe I will try it again. I am going to a body shop to see how much they charge to paint...then I will decide.

No I just used Plasti dip glossifier.

Yes. Glossifier is technically a clear coat, though not in the traditional sense. But it sprays on clear in adds multiple layers of protection.

Are you using a "Brush-less" car wash??? Most people here look for and utilize them... Not sure I will be using a car-wash for a while here... When mine comes in, I will instruct the dealer NOT to prep the surface at all... I want to ceramic it. The business I will be giving the vehicle to. instructed me NOT to wash before he got it. It seems he will prep the surface to NOT have scratches ...he will wash it his way and clay before applying the Ceramic.... But...do what you want.

Vietvet: Please make sure to tell your dealer over and over not to do this. They don't always listen according to what I've seen/read on other car forums. Tell them not to remove the plastic from the car.
