Order to delivery time

Everyone keeps saying that orders will be assigned as they make them, yet you have dealers that have the exact model you ordered 6 weeks ago for sale on their lots (2k miles away). You can't get a straight answer from anyone at Kia on an expected date and dealerships are maybe more clueless than consumers in a lot of cases. I am amazed at how you can build 100k's of cars a year but you can't track an order.

stealerships have no clue w exception of what is in their allotment... there is a huge difference btwn just ordering and the dealership getting invoiced for units that they know are coming.Even then they have no control of timing.Frankly im surprised more dealers arent gouging above MSRP. One thing is for sure incentives will go away and prices with rise as demand skyrockets as it has. Prices of comparable vehicles are 10's of thousands more. You prolly wont be able to touch a Telly of any trim for less than 40k when they start pricing 2021 models. I tracked the first units by map on Kia entire inventory versus by local zip code... before we got ours. Found out what port they were going to and learned it took 3 to 5 days to distribute them a few hundred miles...

Orders are assigned based on that particular dealers allotment. From what I have gathered, Kia manufacturing says we will give you, the dealer, this many tellurides based on the amount of vehicles you normally sale. We will also allow you to request Y amount of specific builds in that allotment. So John Doe Kia gets 5 Tellurides a month, and they can request a specific build for 1. Once that single build slot is taken, they cannot request anything else until its filled. So next month, its time to ship John Doe his 5 tellurides, but that one specific order isn't ready, so they get 5 of whatever is available. The week after Kia manufacturing builds 100 of that specific order. They are not going to special ship to John Doe, they are going to hold one until John's Does next allotment is up, and include it in that shipment. The other 99 are going to go to other dealers who should be receiving their allotment. So the dealer beside John Doe might get that Telluride you special ordered because of the way the timing worked out, and John Doe has to wait another month or more with shipping.

I get it, just a stupid way of doing business imo. But I guess so is not being able to go direct to consumer in the first place.

if you think running a automoblie manufacturing assembly line is easy just ask Tesla.... lol... if you think your going to see your *special order* anytime soon good luck....besides w/o a deposit or being able to price the vehicle completely its likely the dealer will just give you first crack at it but he knows there's 15 people behind you willing to pay top dollar!

Not sure what the hostility is for. I have a deposit and agreed upon pricing and I never said it was easy. I agree it's difficult, I basically said that in an earlier post, so much so that you would think just tracking an order would be easy for them. Dealers are quoting time frames they claim are given to them by Kia and those time frames are for the most part elapsing with no update on vehicle status. Why do people feel the need to defend Kia for that? I get demand is high, I get they kinda hold the cards here, but that doesn't make it right to set an expectation on a purchase agreement and then not update the person that expectations have changed, this is largely on the dealer, but dealers seem to not really be getting clear answers on their end either.

no hostility directed @ anyone ....especially individually... just reality of "the market" if your dealer locked in your price he has prolly been invoiced already and your build is nothing out of the oridinary ... it will come when it comes your dealer has no control.

I agree. I kind of laughed when delearship was telling me they’ve been told 6-8 weeks. I don’t believe that, but it would be a nice surprise! I hate that all this definitely removes any room for negotiation. I’m obviously paying the full msrp which I’ve never done before, but I guess it’s what it is if I want it! I’m still happy with what the price is for all I’m getting, but just stinks. I do wish they would ship the custom orders somewhat close with option of pick up or something. It’ll definitely stink if your order just misses a shipment & you’re stuck waiting a long time.

I ordered two on February 23rd. Both SX AWD PRESTIGE with tow package

A BC/Dune Brown that still has not been assigned a VIN or delivery date.

The other, an Everlasting Silver/ Black was accepted immediately and assigned April 24th for a delivery date. It arrived yesterday April 23rd.

There is still a shortage of components. Those being delivered are still flying off the lots. This will not end anytime soon. The Telluride has been identified as a bargain even above MSRP. Demand is not going to slow this year.

and they have alreadly said... Production will be limited for 2019...
are you going to sell one?

Yes, first thing is find a location with a knowledgeable person. Then ask if thier Store does orders(some do not). If they do orders then you can go in and order exactly what you want trim, color and package wise. 99% of dealers will require a deposit to hold/order the car. Ask them how much. In Dallas it varies from 1,000-2,500 depending on location. Some dealers have refundable deposits and some do not. Personally at my store it is 1,000 non refundable deposit to order.

I would be very wary of a dealer that says come in and we will just add you to our list and that is all. Get a receipt for the actual order when it is submitted and a receipt for your deposit for your records.

I would NEVER do business with any dealer whose policy is "Deposits are non-refundable." That is a rip-off. Even if a customer placed a custom order
and put down their good faith deposit, circumstances can change and they might decide to cancel the transaction. No big deal, when the vehicle arrives
at the dealership it simply becomes part of their inventory and will be sold to another customer. Do not reward bad dealers with your business.

We might buy one, or none. Either way, one or both have plenty of demand at the dealership

To each thier own.. I could explain to you why it makes sense to have non refundable deposit to order.. Ex (allocation numbers, wait time being added to people behind your order, maybe requesting a non popular color combo) but would be fruitless.

I respect your opinion.. simply try locating a location that doesn’t require non refundable deposits or maybe one that doesn’t require a deposit at all.

Each area is different... in DFW area there aren’t any locations that I can think of.

In my opinion because a dealer ask for a non refundable deposit does not make them a bad dealer though.

You could always just wait for one to be available at whatever time they become available and simply walk in and buy without deposit.

I would NEVER offer a non-refundable deposit for myself period. I think it's crazy that anybody would agree to a non-refundable deposit without a specific VIN and delivery date.

I just got an estimate of May 9th delivery from Kia. (Ordered March 12th - SX Prestige Black w/Tow)

Just ordered a moss green sx with the prestige package. I was told three months. The salesman will call me as soon as they get a vin and keep me updated along the way. That was a very easy process.

I ordered 3/12 and neither the dealer nor Kia can give me any estimate. I think people saying otherwise are guessing. My dealer has been texting me twice a week after he talks to his reps, so communication from him has been great.
FWIW I ordered sx prestige, tow in moss/brown.

I ordered the exact same spec on 04/05 still have no idea if order was accepted if order was even really put in. They we're quick any happy to take the money and sent me on my way saying well call you when we know more.

To this point I've had to chase them down for follow up but so far it has resulted in dead ends of no answers from the sales team. I have a meeting with the dealership gm to discuss what is going on and get some reassurance as I am on a current lease due back by the end of May from Kia and if they can't get the ball rolling maybe forced to look at the competition sadly pretty ridiculous you can go order a motorcycle and get ETA and time frame but can't order a car from a major manufacturer lol.

I just ordered ours on Monday and was told 2 months. What interior color you choose? We went with black

I ordered mine on March 7th. Snow White pearl with prestige package, dune brown interior and towing package as well. My dealer have been very communicative about my order, and today it gave me my vin number and everything already. I’m not paying any markup or above invoice price. As much as I like this car, I wouldn’t do that ever. The dealer told me in one or two weeks I could have it here already. From Georgia to Florida, I could go pick it up myself anyways, lol.
