Order to delivery time

Hi All,

I ordered by SX Prestine on 10/31/2020. Dealer said order accepted in last week of December. But they have not given me ant information on VIN or ETA. When I call they say "4-6 months from the date of order and you will only know 2 weeks before actually delivery as t hat when KIA tells us". Does this sound reasonable? How can I get my VIN?

I ordered my white EX end of Nov 2020 and they said it was expected by may 7th. called yesterday and they said its actually set to arrive early and end of this month (Feb). they gave me the VIN#

So going by failcat it seems like the dealer I ordered from has at 13 SX VINs created per month for the last 6 months. Is it safe to assume I could use that for figuring out when I might receive mine? I know there are 27 SX orders ahead of mine as of today.

Should be a good estimate

One question though.... I know when the VINs hit failcat that means the vehicle has been built. But from which months allocation? In other words are the VINs generated in January from December allocation or November. Or even earlier than that?

I don’t know that answer.

Ordered my Dark Moss EX with tow package at the end of Oct. Received the VIN number this past weekend and dealer said to expect delivery no later than 3/20 -- almost five months total.

Should have mentioned original dealer estimate of order to deliver was 60 days.

Man this stuff is all over the map. You got told 2 months, actually took 5 months. Some people were told 4-6 months, got it in 2.

Really, really hoping mine doesn't take 5 months. Want it for a road trip in June!

Mine was supposed to arrive yesterday- I got my trade-in cleaned out but then had a hard time getting a reply from my salesperson. Finally got the manager who told me it hadn’t even shipped yet! Supposedly will arrive next Monday.

I think your dealer is the biggest factor determining order to delivery time. I don't know if this insight may have already been offered in this forum, but I asked my dealer why they were only getting 9 Tellys a month when another nearby dealer was getting 30 a month? My sales manager revealed that prior to the Telluride launch there had been an incentive program to sell certain trim level Sorentos (as he recalled) and the regional dealer that sold the most would get a larger allocation of Tellurides when they launched. My dealership did not win this "contest". He further lamented that immediately following the launch of the Telluride, Kia introduced a sales incentive whereby the dealers that sold the most Tellurides got the largest allocations. Extrapolating ... the dealers that had the higher allocations for the launch deliveries obviously sold the most and were in the catbird seat for the second incentive. Dealers that started behind the eight ball could never catch up. Truth or dealer fiction, I don't know.

Trying this again. I first ordered a Telluride in the beginning of February, and it came in May (pretty quick!).... but by May I had been furloughed from my job due to COVID, so had to let it go. Back at work now and ordered again today from Fairfax Kia, and being quoted 5 months delivery time. Getting an SX with Prestige/Tow in Gravity Gray with Dune Brown interior. Hopefully it comes sooner than later, but I'm prepared to wait.. again. Cheers everyone!
Did you ever get your Telly from Fairfax Kia? We placed an order with them in Nov.

Has anyone ordered from West Hills Kia (Bremerton WA)? Wondering what the actual order to delivery time ended up being. Thanks!

My Telly arrived at my dealership today!!🎉

- What is KFOS???
- Also are Kia dealerships only allotted a certain amount of custom cars per month?

I can tell you what the acronym means but the complete description and how it fits in the process is pretty long. Use the search tool and put KFOS in the search box and select "search titles only" and your question and all follow-up questions will be answered for you.

Thanks, just read through the old KFOS threads😉

I believe there is an information issue, but the bigger issue, in my opinion, is that the market value of the Telluride is above MSRP. Dealers who take orders at MSRP, as mine did, basically are reducing their profit because they are using a slotted allocation to sell a car for less than its worth (or they could sell off their lot). The less ethical dealers (not those here) are playing dumb with customers because their backlog is the least profitable sales they will make, but they take orders anyway to prepare for the dry season. Customers ask for updates and they can't provide any information on timing, dates, deliveries or anything because they've never actually entered the order into anything trackable. The moment market values drop below the prices agreed upon in order contracts, you'll see a flood of orders getting manufactured and delivered. If customers balk and back out of the contracts, the dealers take the cars anyway and sell them off their lot--no big deal. Maybe they have to discount, but its worth it to sell above MSRP now.

All of this is pure speculation on my end. Ethical dealers don't have this issue because their off the lot price is the same (or near) the price offered on orders, so they don't have to make a choice when the monthly window opens up.
How is a dealer that is charging above MSRP unethical?

I agree, I don’t think it’s unethical. A dealer who lists a vehicle over MSRP and then sells that vehicle is a business matter between them and the buyer. It ultimately comes down to a buyer knowing their options before they make these kind of decisions. This forum is a great place to show that this vehicle can be purchased at or close to MSRP for those that want to put in some time and effort. If someone buys a Telly over MSRP and then discovers they got “taken” because they could have paid less is on them.
