Order to delivery time

I ordered a Grey/grey SXP with a few options on 8/12. Two weeks ago I was told it was "#47" in line, but then last week he clarified that it was 47th in line for my particular color/package combination? Do they build different versions every week? Every day? I wish there was more clarity on the process by which these are built. I've ordered vehicles before and it's never been this obscure - had pages where you could track your progress from the moment it was ordered. The salesperson can't seem to tell me if it's close to being built or if we are still weeks/months away (was originally told 6 weeks). Meanwhile, they just got in an SXP with a different color combination. If it's still going to be months, I'd consider buying that one off the lot. Anyone else been told a number in the queue?

I know the West Point, GA plant runs 24 hours a day now. Most advance plants today can switch almost on the fly for paint color, model, etc. Not like when they used to make only one color per day. Also that same plant makes the Sorento, Telluride and Optima. They have the capacity to make 360,000 vehicles per year. The 2020 Sorento is now out and being sold. So I don't know if that effects Telluride production or not. My guess is that #47 is not a real thing (but I may be wrong).

Yeah, that's I thought (in regards to builds) and what I'm worried about (in regards to my #47). But he messaged me that without any prompting (as opposed to me asking for an update), then clarified without any prompting, too... so who knows? I guess I'm just waiting not-so-patiently like most everyone else. :)

Wondering if people can start posting when they ordered and when they received their Kia (or at least the vin).

I ordered an sx prestige with tow on March 13. Nothing yet.

Many of the threads here have gotten hare to follow woth with the side conversations, it would be helpful to just keep this to dates for people’s reference.

From what I can tell from this forum, the SX trim has been the most popular trim which I guess was a surprise to KIA so they were slow to ramp up production of those to meet demand. Then in May, I believe, production of vehicles with Prestige package had to be halted due to a shortage of the Nappa leather and possibly other components of that package. Then you can find a thread on this forum (production by color/trim) which shows the most highly produced exterior and interior colors by trim level and option level and you can see that some color combinations are just produced in few numbers. And then what is holding up people from getting their orders fulfilled is adding lots of options to the build like you did.

What is important to understand is that KIA does not receive a placed order and then produce the vehicle in the order they received it. Instead, the plant in GA produces whatever vehicle it wants with whatever options it wants on it and then they match it up with dealerships' confirmed orders and ship the vehicles there. And the number of vehicles each dealer receives in a given period of time also depends on that dealership's past sales numbers. Smaller dealerships receive less vehicles so the chances it gets one the one you ordered goes down. But at the same time, a larger dealership may have placed a lot of similar orders in front of yours and those customers will, I assume, have first right of refusal when the vehicle arrives if the dealership is playing by the rules. Some do not as I've seen and will offer ordered vehicles to new customers if they are willing to pay a markup. This is not the norm but it has happened to some on this forum.

Lastly, if you add a lot of small options, chances are fewer that KIA just so happened to make that exact vehicle. So it may be best to just order the basics that you must have (Trim level, exterior and interior colors, and tow package if you want one) and negotiate having your dealer install the other options once they receive the base vehicle. Again, this is all from what I've gathered reading on this forum so I may not have all my facts straight. Hope this helps but have fun reading through all of the forum. It's very informative stuff for sure. Welcome to the forum.
I took a tour or the Kia plant in Georgia on Thursday. They do not make what ever the want to. And match it up to a car ordered. The dealer sends the order in to Kia in California from there they send the orders to the GA plant. The GA plant has no idea what will be made. Kia in CA does all that. All the cars that are being made right now were all for customer. They are not building stock for dealers. I feel the hold up is with Kia CA. I had told KMMG that I was on week 12 of waiting. And they were all very surprised. The plant tour was amazing. To see the 3 models they make go from a roll of metal to a car at the end. It takes 22.5 hours from start to " the baby cars" end. 8 hours just in the paint room.

Dealer stock is low and will be but we are still being allocated vehicles. You'd have dealers highly upset if sold orders only. Besides.... Those of you that thought you placed an order and your dealer did not, you'd never get a Telluride!

That’s really cool info. I was looking in to going to tour the plant since it’s only 90 minutes from me. But I’d rather be going there to pick up my Telluride. Though I know that can’t happen that way.

Thank you for taking the time to report back with this information. I am always curious to the mysterious workings of the KIA factory and also the hows and whys of thier ways.

I ordered my S trim on July 6, FWD/Snow White Pearl. I had called dealership multiple times and received no updates. Finally got a "Request ID" from dealership (80+ days after order was placed) when I asked for proof my order was placed and accepted by Kia. I then escalated and called Kia Motors America myself with that information and they pretty much told me my order could not be found in their system and I would not be getting a car in my 90-120 time frame that dealership estimated delivery to be. Needless to say I was furious and started looking for a different vehicle.

Miraculously, I reached out Monday (day 93) and I was informed that the dealership had been allocated my vehicle and delivery would be by the end of the month. Yet, I do not have a VIN or anything. Is this standard? Shouldn't I have a VIN and if so, where can I find this information? I have already asked the dealership for a VIN. I sure hope the dealership isn't jacking with me. This process has been a nightmare for me!!

Update - Dealer called over the weekend to let me know they had been allocated an Black SX AWD and it would be in by the end of the month. Still no news on the one i ordered, but having very little patience and needing the vehicle sooner rather than later, i took the SX and should have it in a couple of weeks. I am waiting on the VIN# now.

Ordered a white exterior/black interior SX prestige on Aug 6, 2019 from Bridgewater Kia in NJ. Now October 15th and nothing, no VIN, no ETA, dealership has been clueless.

Yeah, 2 months is still early for news. Hopefully you'll hear something just past 3 months...

I'm in the same boat...placed order on Aug 17. My dealer said they get updates on Thursdays so I'm hoping I get an update soon. Of course they also told me my order would probably arrive sooner but to expect 3 months... Patiently impatiently waiting...

I'm at almost 6 months, but had abnormal circumstances, plus black copper is usually a longer than normal wait. I think they are cranking them out much faster now than when I originally ordered.

I was told 3 months by dealership when I put the order in and was fine with that. However, it will be 3 months in 3 weeks and have heard absolutely nothing. Need this before weather gets bad and thought ordering in early August was plenty of time. At this rate hoping by Thanksgiving

I ordered a Gravity Gray SX front wheel drive model and it took 12 weeks before they started building it. We'll see how long it takes before it lands at the dealership. I was so close to making a deal on a Volkswagen Atlas because I was tired of waiting. Can't believe how long it takes. I've worked for GM and it usually takes 8-12 weeks and the vehicle is here and gone to it's new home typically.

Tired of the ordering insanity. Going to reach out to corporate - publicly... to see if I they’re open to being more transparent about it... we’ll see.
