Order to delivery time

I ordered mine on 12/16/19 with an initial ETA of 4/20/20. They are now telling me September 2020 and the 2021 Model. Trying to find out how I dropped so far.

I've noticed a lack of SX FWD in the lookup tool compared to other models. I wonder if something is amiss with those....that's the model i ordered :(

I order a SX-Prestige All Wheel Drive on 12/16/19.
1) I was told it should deliver in April.
2) It was then pushed until May.
3) Then I was told it would deliver July 7 due to Covid delays.
4) The dealership called yesterday and told me it would now be sometime in September before I would get the vehicle and it would now be a 2021 model as they are moving production to next years models.

KIA assigned an Internal VIN for production back in February. I can't believe it is taking a domestic plant over 9 months to produce a production vehicle and deliver is now in the next model year.
This vehicle is for my daughter that really wants this. She does not want to look at other products or I would have cancelled this months ago.
I filed an official complaint with KIA Customer Service Yesterday.
Does anyone have any advise as tom how I can get some kind of resolution to this? I feel like I am stuck in a bad movie.
Thanks,
DJ

This has been said many times but there are a few things you need to consider:

- How could KIA sell so many $40-50K vehicles? Anyone that looked at KIA's prior success - and the price point they were successful at - would have agreed with KIA's management decision to not over produce a vehicle they had no prior history or success in selling. The Stinger and K900 were their prior attempts to break through the $40K plus market and were met with a tepid sales response - despite widespread critical acclaim. So if you are KIA - how many do you plan to sell in the first year? They planned for 40K in sales...then quickly ramped up to 80K last year. Then for the 2021 model year have made changes to produce up to 100K units.
- Winning every automotive award known to man in 2019 - again - who would have projected that?
- Press cars were almost exclusively the SX Prestige trim - and that is what everyone wanted. Most manufacturers plan for a max of about 25% of production dedicated to the top trim fully loaded models. Demand for KIA was closer to 50%.
- COVID-19: No one would have ever predicted a total world wide economic shut down. It has never happened before

Now - about the only thing I can fault KIA for is not managing expectations better and not working with dealers to better prepare to enter a higher priced segment. Most dealers were way under-prepared and many responded by taking advantage of the demand and adding huge market price adjustments....and treating prospective first time KIA buyers like crap when asking to test drive one or order an SXP model. Thankfully there are some good dealers on this forum that have done the brand well.

So - until life after COVID-19 returns to normal and production catches up with demand - people are still going to have to wait. I ordered in January and still don't have an ETA much less a VIN#. So either realize all the factors above (save for the dealer experience) were out of KIA's control and be patient or go buy something else.

Looks like my Vin showed today. Order black/black SXP on 1/25. @StephenCantrelle if you get a chance can you give me the lowdown on VIN 5XYP5DHC2LG094676
ETA showing 07-13 going to Nationwide Kia

Any advice on the best way to ask a dealer about a VIN you’ve noticed on Telluride Lookup? For instance, "I noticed you have two white EX's that are being shipped to you - here are the VIN numbers. Are either of them available?" Will they wonder where the heck I got that info or is it a fairly common question for them?
I think the best way to do this is use the chat feature on the dealer’s website in order to get an immediate response and also be perfectly clear. And the key word here is “inbound” or “incoming”. For example:
“I see you have an inbound Telluride SX, VIN number ######. Is this vehicle available for purchase?”

We are in the middle of a global pandemic, people are dying, and you are outraged your daughter cannot get her $50,000 luxury sled?

I don't think in any way was he comparing the pandemic and his being upset by not getting his vehicle. The two have nothing to do with one another.

Which dealer is yours? I placed my order at Kia in Chamblee
When did you place your order? Ed Voyles Kia in Chamblee told us that they don’t take orders and only match you to incoming inventory.

@bjcjtelluride Ordered on 2/8/20. They were telling me an ETA of 6/26 a couple of weeks ago, but that seems to be a long shot now. When did they tell you that?

It was 1-2 weeks ago. Perhaps they have changed their policy (or maybe I talked to the wrong person). I assume that you didn't get changed over to a 2021?

Well guys....they’re back to three shifts!!
When they go back to full strength will it be all 2021 or still catching up with 2020s? That seems to be the question that nobody can answer and I don’t understand why it’s that complicated. Surely, they’ve got to know the game plan but dealers don’t seem to have any info. Hope you’re enjoying your new ride atleast!

I honestly don’t know unfortunately. It doesn’t look like the screenshots from the employee app specifies, nor have any of the employees mentioned anything about what MY they’re manufacturing. Honestly, their FB page is to share information and to let loose about their work situation and all, which I completely understand, always nice to have a place to vent with other employees about your employer, lol. If I see anything, I’ll definitely post it here though!
I’m definitely enjoying my new ride! Took her on the road yesterday to see a patient at Lake Lure who lives right on the lake, with somewhat tricky gravel roads to navigate, and she handled it like the beast she is!

All incoming units that I have officially have Vin numbers as of today.. Hopefully 2021's start being produced next week..
