  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Has anyone ordered a telluride yet had a trade in? Dealer doesn’t want to give me a price on my trade in. I guess it’s because they have no idea when a telluride will be in.

I called around until I found a dealer that would guarantee the price. Definitely negotiating on your back foot once the car has arrived.

We will be doing all the negotiating once the car arrives.

Negotiated up front and guaranteed that the trade-in value would not change. Most dealers likely won't do this.

I did the same but they took my car when I ordered and gave me a loaner.

That would have been nice. They rather me continue to drive my car instead of give me a loaner for 3 months or however long it takes.

I have ordered a few cars that I had trades on. In all situations (with a few different dealers), we have negotiated the final numbers prior to the order. I had them agree to the price on the car I was buying and then we negotiated on the vehicle I was trading. The dealers provided me with an ETA and I evaluated what I thought I would be putting on for miles during the time and agreed to what the max mileage would be if delivery was at that time. Two of the cars went 4 weeks over, so I had a conversation with my salesperson and allowed them to determine if they wanted to put me in a suitable loaner or let me keep mine - both times I kept driving it. The only variable that I had was what incentives would be available at delivery and what the interest rate would be since financing was not done until delivery. For that, I found out what my bank would offer, told the dealer ship 0.5% below that and they always beat the adjusted bank rate to get the financing business.

I would never consider putting any money down and signing a contract without having terms agreed upon.

We gladly will compile numbers together as if the vehicle were on the lot today for sale. Of course we expect there to be 1,000 miles or so added to it if it's your daily vehicle while you wait for your vehicle to be delivered.
But, if the vehicle's condition deteriorates while we wait, then we also have the right to reappraise it according to it's current condition at the time of sale. At that point, if you are no longer willing to accept the offer we now value the trade at, then we return your deposit and shake hands.

But, we will happily increase our offer too, if you do anything to improve the condition during the wait. New tires? We'll give you extra. Back into a pole? We're going to now lower our offer. But of course, any reasonable person that knows that their condition of the vehicle isn't at what we appraised it at should respect our right to appraise it at it's true value. So far, I've done 3 orders with trades involved. One customer did lose a significant amount on his trade, but he also burned the rubber off the tires, and his dog shredded his back seat.
