• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Whenever we use our iPhones in the car the person on the other end hears a really loud noise—like a banging pipe. Mostly we end up using our hand-held phones, which of course we shouldn’t. I can’t find any discussions of this issue.

Can confirm I have been having this same issue recently. Also happening in a 2020 Kia Soul. I am using an iPhone as well. Noticed it happens when going from phone call into car. Hanging up and redialing in car seems to fix issue sometimes. Might be the microphone (as when mic is muted via infotainment noise stops). Just recently updated my infotainment software, praying it goes away. If not off to the dealer :(

Thank you for sharing. Our car just went to the dealer yesterday and, of course, they could not replicate the noise and found nothing wrong. I’ll try calling back from the car to see if that fixes it.

We have this same thing in our Palisade. It seems to happen when the car is going over bumps in the road on the highway, like every one of the relief cuts in the concrete (which are like every second at 70MPH) seem to cause the banging noise.

I have same issue and it’s annoying. Did you get this resolved?

We had this fixed in the Palisade - the rear shocks were bad. The self leveling ones. Same shocks as the Telluride equipped with self leveling ones.

Dang I have this issue in my 2021 telluride
I figured out what causes this in my car! It’s when a call transfers in from another source. Like if I’m on the phone and go get in my car and it transfers to the car Bluetooth. I’ve learned to just hang up and make the call through the Bluetooth—no problem. It’s the transferring.

I have tried this it doesn’t work people still complain about the loud banging pipe noise.

i took my sunglasses out of the holder and haven’t had a complaint since!

I tried the transferring and that did not work. The dealer replaced the head unit and that did not work. I’m in sales and on the phone all the time. I’m taking this issue up to corporate as we pay too much for these cars and have to bandaid them like this!

Have you ruled out it isn’t a problem specific to the phone model you are using? For example, try making a call with a newer phone, or Apple vs Android. Ask a friend or family member to make a call from your car.

I find bluetooth connections are all over the place in almost all of my cars. My former BMW was terrible in that whomever I called knew instantly I was in my car. Never are they to the point were I would want to have serious business calls going on over them for sure. Going further, there are so many issues with the sensitivity of the microphone and the sound level they pick up for almost any bluetooth device. Factor in road noise and cell connections and there you go. I have spoken to my daughter when she is on her airpods washing dishes and it sounds like she is at ground zero on D day. So no, Kia isn't alone with this problem. If you wan't to tell your wife you are running late, fine. If you are doing mergers and acquisitions, might want to wait.

Yes ruled that out early on. I updated my iphone. Dealer re-enacted phone noise with Android and iPhone. Changed phone power cords. Installed and reinstalled phone too. None of this worked. So I just took car to dealer and I found a Kia Executive to share my issues with as well.

Maybe next place to look would be replacing the microphone in the overhead console or checking for loose wires/components in the ceiling that could be causing the banging noise. Hopefully they can find a solution. This is not normal call behavior I have experienced on my Telluride.

The only option is to completely shut the car off turning the cars bt and start it up again. That will fix the problem temporarily but it will come back.

The issue still persists. I am going up the corporate ranks now. We pay too much money to have any type of issues

Have you tried using passenger talk to see if the banging noise can be replicated when taking into the mic? This would also be the case if the mic is the problem.

Also if you try to make a call with Carplay via the data USB port, and it still makes the banging noise, it is definitely not bluetooth related.

These are good points! I will try these and report back
