If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... We booked our Telly SXP a month or so ago and it has finally arrived at the dealer. We have to drive ~4 hours to go pick up our Telly from the dealer and wondering what we should be prepared for. I would like to avoid unnecessary surprises on the day of pickup. We have gotten written agreement on the 'Out the door' price of the car so not expecting any surprises there (hopefully) but we will need to finance the car through the dealer. What are the other things that we should prepare - extended warranty, gap insurance? First time buying a new car from dealer so any advice is appreciated. Thanks !

A lot of these are personal decisions, but I have always declined every single thing they try to sell you. They're not offering it out of the goodness of their heart; you end up paying for it in the long run.

Gap insurance in particular is unnecessary if you have a trade-in. If you only owe 30k on the loan, for example, you'll never be below that in blue book value. I also question the need for extended warranty on a car with 10-year warranty. And fighting with extended warranty companies, paying deductibles, etc, is going to be on you to figure out.

Wont get into the debate of if an extended warranty is needed, but if you are one that feels you need it or more comfortable having one for piece of mind, do your research in on. Most likely your dealer with attempt to sell one for anywhere between 2500-3500. Search this board. Muncie kia sells the same exact fidelity (kia backed) warranty for 1647. Search the threads and read. Collect the details. Go in armed with what muncie kia offers (10yr/100k miles, 0 deduct). Have them beat it or match it. If not, decline it and buy it from muncie kia afterwards. You have up to 5000 miles to buy i believe. Their contact info can also be found in these forums to ask the questions yourself. They respond quickly and nicely.

hopefully your out the door agreed price is stuck too. If not look for the add ons like tint or care packages.

good luck and congrats!

edit: just to clarify a little more, while the car has a “10yr warranty” that does not cover the entire car for 10yrs. Not a bumper to bumper. For example some electronics are only covered for 3yr/36 months. Only you can decide if the extended warranty is needed.

So Kia has 3 catergories of new car warranty?
3/36 of electronics
5/60 of others
10/100k powertrain

Is Kia the only manufacturer (and Hyundai) that has 3 different warranties?
